Did you have a moving service do most of it, or did you have to organize it yourself? Just moving the internet service can take that long!

Thanks much! Yes, we're looking to rent. Looking for a drivable vacation and we've enjoyed the times we've been to VT, NH and Maine before. They've always been driving/camping trips though and w/ the kids now, we thought we'd try staying a while somewhere. We'd be looking probably sometime in from late May to late June.
What do you think about Lake Willoughby? Lake Bomoseen, Caspian, Crystal, Maidstone? Know anything about any of those?
What about Squam Lake in NH? I've been there many times although not for a long time. My memories of it are positive. Also, my memories of it are that it's fairly quiet, some boats but not a lot and I think it's not a big enough lake for super speedy power boats anyway.
Fun fact: On Golden Pond was filmed at Squam Lake. The house used in the movie belonged to an MD/researcher in the group that I worked with when I first moved up to Boston and I've stayed in that house.
Ha, I was just about to recommend Willoughby. VERY beautiful...it's out of the way, not much around it, which is good and bad...we love that place...if you're looking for lots of non lake activities, there's not much around, but we like being self contained at a lake. Same for Caspian, great lake (Bill Rehnquist had a house there) right in the famous Beer and Cheese Belt. Bomoseen can have mosquito issues for some reason.
Get going on this early, good place book up fast...
Turkey poblano bean soup night.
Buck O'Neil has finally been elected to the baseball hall of fame. About dawn time even if it is fifteen years too late.
my grill cover blew away last night in 60 mph winds, I bet it's 10 miles away. It kind of sucked anyway, overpriced, overly thin, good riddance.
Now they want me to buy tickets to earlier rounds. Without knowing who is playing. Not sure I'm going to fall for that.
I've been avoiding that Succession thread like the plague today. We missed it last night and are catching it tonight.
But I think we can all agree the ALF cameo was kind of cool at the end.
The cold open with the dad in bed with Cloris Leachman threw me for a loop.
Something else in the news just made me laugh even more.
Zero thread discipline...
So did I fool you with the Newhart, ALF and Lost tie ins?
47F brrrrrrrr...
Un-curved bananas are a sign the beast is near.
I keep misreading titles on the main board and it is driving me crazy.
"Two Rhules Questions"
"New Paolo Alto"
Not just the first time, but every time I see them since they've been posted. Maybe I should take the rest of the week off? Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
speaking of which I came upon an overturned baby stroller in the woods today...had to turn it over to confirm it was empty.
Why are people so bad at eating?
Neighbors around the corner from me, for some unknown reason, have had a Port-o-Potty on their bank for the last couple of weeks. No visible construction happening. They have now strung twinkling lights on it. New level of White Trash Christmas?
I briefly stopped believin' this afternoon. Journey knocked on my door and yelled at me. They sounded pissed.
Math puns? Such a tactic may divide us.
Damn.
Hopefully, we've gotten that out of our system.
This is getting exponentially worse.
As a rule, I do not make puns.
Damn.
young man in old Subaru just drove down the driveway...he was wearing a UPS uniform, tossed me a couple pounds of Katz's Deli pastrami, off he went...said he was part of the PVD team, personal vehicle delivery, who knew? I'm always the last to know
Clem's distaste for puns, math-related or otherwise, is...

Alright. See you tomorrow guys. Last persimmon out get the lights.
I ran a red light today. Just drove right through it thinking I had the green light. No accident occurred but halfway through the intersection I realized the light was actually red. No explanation. No one was hurt, no cop saw me, but it was a bit unnerving for me. Grateful that I didn't cause an accident.
My question is what were you really thinking about while you were driving? I had a similar event a decade or so ago when I lived in Ohio. My brain was stuck on a work problem but I had committed to meeting some friends for dinner. Luckily, it was a bit after 5 PM and the road I was on was in a lightly trafficked area.
Much as non-Christmas movies are claimed to be Christmas movies, are there songs that while not about Christmas or the holiday season but would get classified as such?
The song I'm thinking of that makes me think this is Danke Schoen by Wayne Newton. I know, I know Ferris Bueller's Day Off says otherwise, but on my Christmas song list it does reside.
You are not alone! Happened to me once probably about 15-17 years ago...I was in the straight lane, left arrow turned green and off I went. Luckily no accidents in my case either, this was on Fayetteville Street crossing over 40 towards Southpoint which is...not a good place for that kind of thing if you know the area.
Unnerving is an understatement, glad you're ok!
I have some opinions about the Christmas songs that never actually mention Christmas…Winter Wonderland, Jingle Bells (originally written as a Thanksgiving song), and Frosty the Snowman, to name a few. But I don’t think that’s what you’re asking.
Owing to its inclusion on the Charlie Brown Christmas special & album, I’d say ‘Für Elise’ probably fits the bill for a lot of people. Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ has also been (inexplicably!!!) co-opted to some extent in recent years, thanks largely to the Pentatonix. Lastly, I’d put ‘Ave Maria’ on this list. It has obvious connections to Christmas, but is used much more broadly throughout the church year, yet most people (including me) would never listen to it in casual contexts except at CHRISTMASTIME.
Haha, my phone autocorrects to CHRISTMASTIME and I’m not “fixing” that.
About 30 years ago, the little town of Wake Forest had a flashing orange caution light. I don’t know what I was thinking, but apparently I saw the orange light and my brain said “stoplight is changing to red”. So I stopped and stayed stopped for many minutes. Ended up having several cars backed up behind me. No one blew their horn, flashed an obscene finger, or shot at me. Simpler times.
Once in 3rd grade I "came to" with the entire class looking at me and the teacher saying my name, which I gathered she'd been saying for some time. It was a harbinger of things to come. I can get VERY lost in thought. I've blown through many stops signs and lights, missed the exit ramp to my area and not realized it for miles on multiple occasions, driven right past other destinations like gas stations, etc that I frequent often...all because I'm lost in thought.
It's very scary. It's like reading a book and realizing your several paragraphs on and you're not sure what happen because you've gone on autopilot and stopped digesting the words...except instead of reading, you're driving at 60 mph down the road and momentarily checked out.
I was thinking about whether or not to send Christmas cards this year. ;) Also, this particular intersection is not a perpendicular intersection and the green lights for the cars on the crossroad are angled such that they are clearly visible to cars traveling in the direction I was traveling. It is a mistake I am not likely to make again. I've been through this intersection many, many times and I've never made that mistake before. Now that I know it's possible, I will do a better job of noticing. That's the thing about near misses, they make you more vigilant at certain intersections forever, well, they do me. I've had a couple in life, I'm always more careful when I pass that way again.
Current tally:
Taylor - 6, George - 4.
See y'all tomorrow!
Damn, I’m about to go on a Tom Waits bender. I’ll go months without hearing or thinking about his songs, but once one pops in my head it’s a steady diet until sated.
I found some video of Clem’s last presentation:

There are so many versions of "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." It was after all originally a poem. Here is a sampling.
A classic from Burl Ives.
Next, one from Light the World
And the latest I heard from Foxes and Fossils
When you give one of your all time best auditions, it is quite satisfying to get called back.
I dunno - maybe she’s a hand model or something.
Do you guys not remember this? She said it. I said I hate feet and she told us about her near experience of being a foot model. She said the requisite size (6 maybe) and that hers were ever so slightly larger (still dainty) and that she had beautiful feet. She will be mad at you for not remembering.
I would spork but the brilliance of this post should be stated publicly. Yes, I used to have the perfect sized feet but they got a little bit larger once I had children and my chance at being a top foot model was lost.
OPK also deserves credit for almost remembering. ;)
Just this once for you: you really put your foot in it with that remark.
The benefit of a windy morning is that it blows the leaves from my yard...
December is 2nd-least likely month for tornadoes in Tennessee ... until this December, anyway. An EF1 touched down 10 miles from my house Monday, but we got off lucky today compared to those north & west of us. I really, really miss the Colorado weather (but not the fire danger).
Blowy and warm here but a cold front coming through. Got my grocery shopping done. Had some leftover Indian. Curry is better on day 2 after the flavors have all slept together overnight.
I like Todd and Margo.
I've never seen that movie.
Tested positive.
Oh crap. Best wishes.
My sister is a CFO of a private school in Colorado. The audit team was with her in her office all week and yesterday the unmasked gentleman was coughing. Tested positive.
She's livid, but also wary about upsetting the audit team. And, she's quarantined for several days until she can get some test results.
I'm sending you the best of mojo, fellow DBR fellow.
Are you symptomatic?
I had what I assumed was a sinus infection for 4 days starting Monday. No fever, no loss of smell. No other symptoms at all. Monday I took a rapid test that was negative. That along with no loss of smell, or fever made me SURE it wasn't Covid. No symptoms at all by Thursday and I fly to Canada (or was) on Monday, so went to get the PCR test yesterday. Positive. I am 100% recovered, but no trip to Canada. Covid is soooo weird. No wonder it kills so many people. If I was going somewhere domestic I would never have had the PCR test.
Hope you feel better soon!
Hot turkey soup will make you feel better.
First pizza consumed.
Anyone watching NCAA volleyball?
It's been a while since I've been skiing. Miss it so I'm going to do some mountain porn.
Follow up PCR negative! It was a false positive!
