This Old House is just the cure for a 94F San Antonio afternoon. Unfortunately, next week is the last new episode.
It's what I've always called a push mower but I think some people refer to push mowers in contrast to riding mowers. To me a push mower is one powered only by a human pushing.
In the next few days, maybe sooner, we will reach posts 27272. That's a fun looking number.
Yeah, there's a post in the Ymm, Beer thread from devildeac that says "At least we're not talking about lawnmowers."
I smell a rat.
I'm not much of a beer drinker myself.
The hubby always jokes that on those occasional times when I order a beer, the race is on! Between me and evaporation.
So - all that discussion of craft beers - what are the worst beers out there?
I mean I assume Bud Light is atrocious. Probably Miller Lite too.
But what are some beers that are supposed to be good but aren't?
When you only ever occasionally drink beer, you never waste your time on "light" beers.
I do, however, drink beer more often than I mow the lawn.
When I was a toddler, I managed to burn my shin on my dad's gas powered mower. I don't remember the incident, I've only ever been told about it. But it left a scar. My mom was scared to let me go out in the yard when anybody was mowing the lawn for years afterwards.
Then, as I got older, my brothers could earn extra on their allowance if they mowed the lawn and they would not let me in on their money-making opportunities. I got paid extra to defrost the freezer. Oh joy. I got the same amount for doing that as they got for mowing the lawn. It only needed doing a couple of times a year but it would take all afternoon. Totally unfair. Down with the patriarchy! ;)
So - in my mind, talking about beer is pretty much the same thing as talking about lawnmowers.
Still - I am interested in what are the crappy beers out there. So, denizens of the LTE, what beers do you hate?
So, not beer? I told you I'm not much of a beer drinker although I did have a Corona last month (out of pity).
I mean - anybody remember that chocolate flavored weight loss supplement that used to show a lot commercials in the '70s - AIDS?
Sting trimmers. A lightly touched topic here at DBR.
Charade with a young Walter Matthau.
What did we do before Youtube?

I spelled it wrong, AYDS.
Well, we did have the family Clue battle royale.
We played three games because, in the first game, I played Miss Scarlett and my first guess, Miss Scarlett with the rope in the lounge was correct so I made an accusation with my second turn, game over. We usually play two but when the first one goes that fast, we all have the energy to play three.
But that as more my adventure.
Release order or machete order?
Green eggs and Spam?
My neighbors were lucky today. Had a near head on collision with a strung out addict. Lucky to live. Makes you appreciative for things.
My wife and I had a similar experience almost fifteen years ago.
Beautiful morning here. Should go walk on the river before it gets hot, but not feeling the motivation yet.
Watching a family of squirrels work their way from tree to tree in line, sipping coffee as the sun comes up. Ahhhh....
Any other big crossword fans here? Should I start an "Mmmmm crosswords" thread?
Dismantled 6 alarms before I found the one chirping in the middle of the night with a low battery. Not sure if it was my sleep addled brain or an amplifying effect from the hallway that made it sound like any bedroom could have the chirper...frustrating
Nice cool morning though. Bird feeders filled. Feeling much more zen.
I do the WSJ one on occasion.
I used to get Games Magazine as a kid, they had “The World’s Most Ornery Crossword Puzzle” each month with a set of easy clues and a set of difficult clues. The editor, Will Shortz, has been the NYT editor for about 15 years or so now.
Fan, yes. Big fan? I would say no. I do them but not every day. I think of crosswords as a great way to find useful Scrabble words. I only play Scrabble online these days though. But I've been chain playing with on or more Duke grad friends (a couple of them I "met" here) for going on 10 years now.
That should say one* or more.
Right now though, it's just one.
The hubby is getting on a plane this afternoon and flying down to DC so he can meet with people at the University of Maryland on Tuesday morning. Some decisions must be made regarding the construction of the buildings where his labs will be and he has to be there.
These are not the droids you’re looking for...
Old school...
And yes - bold, it's easier to read what you've already written in with a pen. ;)
I use pen as well.
My grandmother had subscribed my wife and I to the NYT Crossword Puzzle Club for several years before her passing. Once a month we would get an envelope with 12 Sunday puzzles in the mail. It was amazing. They would pile up some months, then we'd work away at them in bad weather or on vacation.
Her passing somehow almost synced up with when the Crossword Puzzle Club morphed into an app. It was unfortunate, as for a few months after her passing, the envelopes full of puzzles felt like an even more special treat.
Vacuuming done, I guess it is time to sweep the tile...
Have we talked about vacuum cleaners here yet? I mean, now that we've done lawnmowers . . .
I can't remember so, this question may be a repeat, I say apologies, but I wouldn't mean it, so, might as well skip that bit. ;-)
Ok - question - I can't vacuum with my current vacuum cleaner (which like most appliances in my house is at least 25 years old) because it kicks up so much dust when I use it that my eyes swell shut. I entered into an argument recently about the proper order of cleaning, vacuum then dust or dust then vacuum. I vaccuum then dust because, like I said, my vacuum cleaner does a decent job of picking up stuff off the floor but a fair bit of the smaller dust particles end up being shot back into the air. Does anyone have a vacuum cleaner that doesn't do this? I had a few masks on hand (I've used them now) that I used to use when trying to clean the house. It got so bad though that I eventually just hired a cleaning service. Once I did that, there was no looking back. I'm playing my house cleaner right now not to come and my house could use a vacuuming, so, I'm looking to buy a new vacuum cleaner that won't put me out of commission for the rest of the day. Any suggestions?
Something like this should work:
https://m.sharkclean.com/exclusive-o...pright-vacuum/
I actually have 3: one for the rugs I have covering my tile floors, one for the carpet on the stairs, and one for the rest of the carpet.
I can actually spend more time sweeping the tile than vacuuming.
Watching golf, because that’s what is on.
Tom Brady has been looking like someone I could play golf with. Which is saying something special.
But he hit one AMAZING shot from 100 yards out that will amp the trash talk.
I always forget how personable Peyton is. And a good golfer too. He's quite likeable.
Brady has had his moments...
From that perspective, Lefty has the cleanest resume.
I am enjoying this...it would be nicer without the rain.
The hubby has not yet called from MD. Grrrr.
Worst storms in years here...
Heard about some 5" hail down there punching holes in roofs. Yikes!
-jk
Well, walked the yard, some of the perennials took a beating but overall not that bad out there. I do need to trim a couple of overarching branches but nothing came down.
Looks like hail was mainly around DFW. They get a lot more of it than we do. Some spot flooding here I. The Hill Country, more around Austin.
I’m sorry but Ibiza, when pronounced correctly, is funny to my people.
I remember some truly surprising and surprisingly awful weather from the 2 years that I lived in Dallas. For pure changeability, New England leads, but for a quick storm coming up that would make you run for the root cellar if you had one - Texas has that one, hands down.
That is generally true for us until we hit mid-June. Then it turns into 95-100 with humidity every day until we hit late September/October.
I needed a light jacket when I took a walk yesterday. I remember one performance of Othello in June 2018 where the audience wore coats, sat under blankets, and one group even brought a batter-powered space heater.
Headed towards muggy here, just got my river walk In. Now for some phò.
We have 3-4 weeks there at the end of July/beginning of August where it often gets uncomfortably hot and for some reason, we can get a 2 or 3 day blast of hot weather in April. When we get that blast, it has an uncanny ability to come on Marathon Monday. Mother Nature must not like distance runners.
In case you aren't reading the Bard Off thread, the final four in the favorite Shakespeare play tournament are: A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, and The Tempest.
What happened to Hamlet?
Hamlet lost by one vote to Macbeth in the quarterfinals. I seeded the quarterfinals based on margin of victory in the 2nd round which put these 2 powerhouses against each other earlier than expected, but, given the outcome, I'm kinda glad we didn't come down to a Hamlet vs. Macbeth final. I'm sure that's what everybody, including me, was expecting. There are a lot of Shakespeare geeks among my friends plus good acting roles probably influence some of the voting and almost all of my female actor friends want a crack at Lady M.
Typos are the bane to my posting. But then, I don't spend a whole lot of time looking for them, so maybe not.
It can be found in any post...
Okay, about to start cooking some chicken schnitzel. Drinking strong dark beer. For me, the right music during the cook is essential.
‘What should I listen to?
Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue May be the winner. At least, it’s the prep start.
Finished Miles, on to DMB live at Red Rocks . . . .
The best live show I ever saw was the Talking Heads on their Stop Making Sense tour. Best band I ever saw in a club was the Indigo Girls. I as never a big concert goer. One of the best live theater performances I ever saw was Daniel J. Travanti in A Touch of the Poet by Eugene O'Neill.
I haven’t been to a live show since I lived in Danvers.
There is something wrong with my W key. It's working most of the time but every once in awhile, I get nothing.
I have been binge watching a show on Netflix and I cannot recommend it, but I also kinda can't stop watching it. I'm not even hate watching it. I think it's rather terrible, but then again, it might just be so bad it's good, but then again, some of the actors are giving their absolute all. I don't know what to make of it. I don't think anyone else should start watching it because over the top doesn't even begin to describe it. It's a historical soap opera with only a very slight glancing acquaintance with the actual historical facts. Very slight.
Have some red foxes barking and screaming on the regular in the woods behind my property. If you've never heard it and don't know what it is and hear it in the dark, it sounds like someone is being murdered.
More rain. 😔
I almost forgot to post today's episode of "The Quarantine Adventures of T-Bone and The Drewsk". Today, in honor of the Memorial tradition of cookouts, the intrepid duo accompanied their mother to pick-up an order from Five Guys. Good burgers!
Hmmm, Episode 1 was solid, 2 pretty good, but we may want to reframe #3.
The morning commute made me late this morning.
I do not watch TMZ.
One of two Zoom interviews confirmed for this week.
One I'm really interested in, one not so much (but $ speaks).
Hoping/praying I get the right opportunity.
Good luck, I hope it all works out for you!
Good luck Matty. Will the possible new house have a nice rumpus room for all of us to come over and watch Duke games?
I love the words "rumpus" and "room"
T-Bone and Paddies both made the Dean's List at UVM for the spring semester.
I need a ruling from the fans: Is Paddies an acceptable recurring character in "The Quarantine Adventures of T-Bone and The Drewsk" a la Mrs. Puff on Spongebob?
So, umm, yeah...
This evening's episode of "The Quarantine Adventures of T-Bone and The Drewsk": We find the intrepid pair searching the neighborhood for their youngest brother who was having an anxiety crisis. Brother was found and, with an assist from Paddies on the phone, decided to come home.
Yep, walking a tightrope with my youngest right now. Just gotta get him through the next 3 days then school will be over for the summer. Don't know what we'll do next but school is the source of 95% of his anxiety. All his courses are pass/fail right now and he just has to turn in enough assignments to pass. Fingers crossed.
Hoping he finishes it out well.
Good morning!
Good morning, just about to start my commute.
Commute done.
It took longer than a minute because I didn't get the "you must wait" between postings reminder. It's the three passwords/screens that I have to get through. And now, time to push back the boundaries of human ignorance!
