Something tells me it's all happening at the zoo...
I do believe it.

More like mr dingleberry, ammirite?!?!
We still have all our childhood records, including New Zoo Review, several Banana Splits records, Sesame Street, and I have a Big Blue Marble record I found at a library sale. Loved me some Big Blue Marble.

I was feeling very senile until I looked up the air dates of the shows you have been mentioning because I didn't remember them. I am feeling much better once I looked up the ait dates. I didn't see any of them - I don't think they were on TV in Japan or Korea.
Like The Monkees, I saw many of these several years later in syndication.
Oh, you might have seen some of the anime that I saw in the early 80s when I lived at Fort Devens, MA. Shows like Gaiking and Star Blazers.

That feeling when you don't have to get up for work. The other residents of the household are passed, wtf is breakfast.
https://www.wcax.com/video/2022/12/2...wl-car-grille/
should you ever have a Kafka moment and find yourself as an owl wedged in a car's grille, you'll want to be in Brattleboro Vermont (where public nudity is legal, so there's also that).
I was annoyed during the movie Signs that information was not communicated clearly. All the dying wife had to say was:"Hey. Got hit by this car and it seems I can see into the future for some reason. Aliens are coming and water kills them" So knowing this about me, now you understand why I freaking despise the Jinx thread and am annoyed I wasn't allowed to put up an upset alert thread on the basketball side last year. I don't want to decipher I'm a real wanker for saying this.I'm a real wanker for saying this.I'm a real wanker for saying this.I'm a real wanker for saying this.. I just want to know if an upset is brewing.
We didn't have a TV for the first 2 years in Japan and then we realized bowling is universal. In Korea, we were able to get AFKN (Armed Forces Korea Network) and could watch Wyatt Earp, Jim Bowie, Another World, MASH, and the Super Bowl. We had the Armed Forces radio in Japan so we got the old radio shows for an hour each night.
Such a deprived childhood. ;)
Here comes grumpy Clems, glaring and skulking into a thread:

Did I really flip over from a great football game to — David Byrne and Miley Cyrus?
I may be having a stroke.
Pretty sure I can see whether Miley is wearing underwear under that short dress or not. And it is wholly against my will.
She really was singing this to you:

Happy New Year everyone!
Listening to Peter Tosh while cooking, a chill start to the new year.
78F here today. 70s for the rest of the week.
First Run 5k in Lowell this morning - #68.
And now we enter the most blah time of year.
Happy new year everyone! I had a WILD night. I drove to a cheese shop in Asheville and picked up the accouterments for a high quality charcuterie (definitely didn't pronounce this word right the first time...see also: jicama) tray. Watched Duke bball, Alabama football then the college playoffs. Drank 2 diet rootbeers. Sometimes it's hard to hold a swinger down. Players gonna play. Right now I am slow simmering hotdog chili, which I have found impossible to master.
But this is my favorite part of the year. Days get longer from here on out. I managed to avoid the seasonal affective disorder this year, probably because I was on the road so much. Seeing new things takes my mind off how much I despise the shorter days. Should get a couple of snows, which I love. Especially driving in it. Work is really hot right now (lecturing at Stanford next week and I will be [more] insufferable). The 2 basketball teams I follow are good (Duke) and potentially great (my old high school is #1 in the state and just went toe to toe with the #5 4A team). Good times.

Jeremy Renner going to be the first celebrity death? Geez, sounds like he might lose a leg at least
Have they said what happened yet?
Just saw that they say the safety on his plow disengaged and it ran over his leg. Neighbor who was a doctor applied a tourniquet before he was airlifted. Yikes.
Moochers. Close friends with a winter home there...very popular now among Yankees, but you just can't find a home to rent for the winter, they don't even hit the market. Lots of condos, but very few homes...
Favorite observation as we walk around NSB is the very high number of people who have converted their garages into Man Caves...when the door opens you might expect to see a car, but instead you see a Barcolounger, fridge, huge TV, other male amenities...a few dozen empties...
I think I have discovered the secret to great hotdog chili. Boil the meat. Then add a cup of water and boil and reduce, add a cup of water and boil and reduce. Repeat a few times. I have probably made the mistake of rushing this process. The chili was more like sloppy joes, than great chili. I am playing around with a slaw recipe substituting radish for carrots and honey for sugar. I like a vinegary slaw rather than a mayonnaisey slaw.
Garlic is crazy popular, even beyond reason. The place is absolutely packed every day starting at Geezer Hour. JB's Fish Camp is fabulous for excellent basic seafood, and you can sit outside and watch the manatees bob around when it's warm enough for them (sissies).
yeah, that's unfortunate. Wahoos driving their boats at high speed where warnings indicate they shouldn't.
Regarding Jeremy Renner, I wish him the best, but last night's news featured clips of him doing all sorts of crazy stuff with very large plows and other vehicles...but they really aren't meant to be toys.
I couldn't imagine going to a Hooters, Chilis or Applebees for any reason. I was in a small airport one time and I told my boss the only restaurant was a Chili's. She responded with: "Jesus. Why don't you just go lick the mats they place in front of the urinals?!?!" It was the basis of our friendship.
That explains why those mats are always so worn down. Elitists.
7:30 AM meetings are the bane to my existence.
My MIL was watching my kids when they were probably 8 and 6. Taking them to dinner and this exchange occurs.
MIL: "Let's go to dinner. Do y'all like Applebee's?"
My daughter: "We have never been."
MIL: "You know you've been to Applebee's! It's right down the street! Everyone has been to Applebee's!"
My daughter: "Nana. Daddy would never take us anywhere that has a commercial."
I'm an amazing father. She is now 21. Never been to Applebee's.
Girl I dated in high school back in Charlotte - her family ALWAYS went out to eat on Saturday night. And it was always lowest common denominator chain restaurants. Applebee's, Olive Garden, Outback... and being Saturday in Charlotte it was ALWAYS about a 90 minute wait.
What a waste of time and money.
I’ve gone terribly wrong because my daughters love Applebee’s
My trees are confused and have started dropping their leaves. Hoping it all goes well. Normally they drop them in late February, early March so this is unexpected.
My parents like their local Chili's. They've been to every continent(well technically not Antarctica, but close enough to hit it with a rock if they had one to throw) and dined in many a hole in the wall places on many a strange thing. (Staple in my father's diet as a child was whale blubber.) They like it because they they can rotate through 7 or 8 dishes and not have the same thing more than a few times a year. And much like Cheers, they have several people they know and see there every week. Yes, every week. Also, it beats cooking. On the weekends they will throw in a random place but two days a week they go to Chili's and Carrabba's.
one of the things I like most living where I do is that we have far fewer (soulless) chain restaurants, more chef owned places serving real food, not just stuff yanked from a freezer...I agree that they do serve a purpose, but the food is largely indistinguishable (which is often the point).
How do you thrown out of an Appleby’s?
Anything is possible at Club Applebee’s

I remember reading about this. I didn't realize it was a decade ago!
When Chili's first arrived in Durham, in the mid to late 80s, I LOVED IT!!!! Their mozzarella sticks were new to us and their chocolate shakes rocked!
Spent a semester in Europe (Fall 1990) and found a Chili's in Innsbruck, Austria. We thought we had found heaven b/c we had been missing American food. Chowed down on some chicken nachos (American food!).
Then in the early-mid 90s we loved their margaritas and complimentary (and complementary) chips and salsa.
Chili's sucks now.
I came across this link and I just had to LOL!

Umm, no. The Bay Area might be expensive, but pulling in that much is still going to be ~$18k/mo after taxes. It ain't that expensive. You aren't living an average life. Shut up and cope.Quote:
My wife and I are in our 30s and are working in the Bay Area and making about $320,000 combined yearly. We live an average life and watch every dollar that we spend.
Thank you. I needed to vent.
Minnesota. My parents had their favorite location downsized there toward the end, which was unpleasant at the age they were at the time. I don't know if that was unique to that location or if the franchise is in a bit of trouble. I tend to think the latter. It certainly doesn't have a youthful vibe to it, at any location I've been to.
Funny enough, one of my best friends from my time at Duke is responsible for The Oracle of Bacon.
I am very much enjoying something that is happening in the world of that which must not be spoken (of) this evening.
Hah. I made THAT analogy to my new manager about a project I thought was just about to get across the finish line before she jumped in at the final minute for yet another round of very weedy word smithing...
Not sure how she felt about it but that was how I felt about it.
Sigh, back to work.
or "would" deliver...no way to hold him to his word.
hope this doesn't violate the rules, but for those who may approach this from the D perspective, check out the Carl Hulse analysis on the front page of the Times, just below the large photo:"the fight for speaker revealed..."
Exactly. In this age of absolute polarity perhaps the best thing the Dems can hope for is to "work" with a speaker who is utterly ineffectual. I think the Dems would rather see McCarthy than someone like Scalise or Jordan who may be better at capturing support from the ultra conservatives in the party.
Where is Clem with a good fart joke?
Beauty is only skin deep, but internal organs aren’t that attractive either.
I mean, unless you’re in to that kind of thing.
Losing 6 straight is tough on anyone.
Hey, what's everyone doing tonight?
I think I'll just wash my hair.
I don't mind losing at all. I want to compete. Probably can't come back, but want to see Duke punch State back a little. Also congrats PackMan97.
Anyone else ever tried covering themselves in Vaseline and wiggling around on the floor like a slug?
My nephew is a junior at State, but like me at Wake, is still a Duke fan. He actually scored tickets for tonight's game, bless his heart. I am betting he either left early or was screaming inside his head.
Christmas Day at my house, he suddenly appeared in front of me wearing my "new" hat, wanting to know how I scored one. I think he wanted me to give it to him. Not a chance! Not like he could wear it on campus, anyway.
Always fun to see your employer making headlines.
Hmmm, so how did last year go?
The train wreck continues and it's getting even more "wrecky".
What was Einstein‘s definition of insanity again?
I’ve got a good feeling about the next one though….

Well,I’ve got no chance of losing

I made a Pearl Jam reference in a room full of young 30s and late 20s. No one got it. Made me feel old. Didn’t know who Eddie Vedder was.
No, they are newer.

But I know you’re up on your bands from Aberdeen.
I guess I don’t get politics. They have a Purple Heart war hero and author of the great American socially conservative novel, Representative Santos.
Another way too early flight.
Something to listen to while waiting at the gate:
https://youtu.be/Cjr5U7g6aiA
Steve Miller’s cover of this was really big, but not many people know Paul Pena. Both were San Francisco musicians and we’re in neighboring rooms of a recording studio. Steve heard Paul recording this song and asked if he could record a version too. Steve’s came out first — but Paul’s is the original.
(and the better one IMHO).
Actually, here in Asheville the reverse is often true.
In the summer, big storms that don't even affect the mountains will mean that small planes to Asheville from other areas never take off the night before. So the 5:50am flight connecting through Atlanta isn't there and it's cancelled. It creates a domino effect where all those passengers are delayed and miss their connections etc etc.
I know that especially for smaller airports, if you want to maximize chances of getting to your destination, you have to take the early flights, like REALLY early...typically I get up a 3:45 a.m. to make 5:45 flights to Durham for football season...after that burst of activity, most other flights don't leave until very late morning or early afternoon...the longer you wait in the day, the better your chance of missing a connection (and I've missed plenty in the past several years).
My friend at C-SPAN is having field days all week.
First date night in 3+ years.
Ekud classmate and friend from 6th through 8th grade just joined Special Counsel Smith's team.
Tain wreck is over. Time to wreck something g else.
Someone owes me an hour of sleep. Was trying to get to bed when I clicked on the live feed and found someone threatening to punch Matt Gaetz. Who could turn that off?
Nice little night. Breakfast in bed. Going to load up at reading terminal market.
The 'dores are on national TV. Oh boy, let's hope they are up to the task.
I took my kids when they were 14 and 12. And I pointed out that there were Mennonites and Amish there. And my daughter asked me if the Amish girls thought the Mennonite girls dress like whores because they were allowed to wear more colorful, frumpish outfits. It was one of the early signs that she was more intellectually advanced than her parents.
