Carving one of those cat butt pumpkins.
Hah!

Well, after budwom and BD’s posts, I was afraid to post anything. And then the topic switched to cat butts. And now I don’t feel so bad. First car show since March 2020.

talked to a friend who just "bought" a car. Strange experience for her. you can't see it, you can't touch it, you may or may not get what options you want on it, the color you want, and you sure can't get a discount. But they WILL pressure you into taking a car filled with expensive and unattractive options...she said it was more like a boxing match than a car purchase.
I know car manufacturers are keen on this "new normal" but I wonder how sustainable this is if and when there is a better balance between supply and demand...some dealers would still love to have 300 cars on the lot as they formerly had, but the manufacturers differ on this. We're semi-interested in a new car but loath the notion of going to a dealer with zero leverage. Good thing I like walking.
Thank you for sharing the story, BD. You have raised great sons and Arrow is just the icing on the cake. I hope he got lots of M&Ms for sharing the story.
I know amazing people. My sister wondered if we could get Carlos to do an additional cleaning to be sure the sanctuary is clean as can be for BiL Wayne's memorial service on Friday. Rather than ask for that, I mentioned it to a few people. This morning, five women met me at church to clean. I knew 3 of them were coming and the other 3 were a very pleasant surprise. My sister joined us as well. We vacuumed all the pews, dusted and cleaned all the wooden portions of the pews, and got lots of marks of the painted ends of the pews. Magic Erasers are amazing for that.
I'm a very fortunate person to know such amazing folks.
I find myself muttering "Ok, Boomer" when I read the Midterms thread - a lot.
A pet peeve of mine is posters who post in a thread how stupid / silly / bad they think the subject of the thread is. Here’s a thread for taco afficionados and I’m going to post how much I hate tacos. Turd work, that’s what that is! So, I’m just going to post here how dull I find baseball. How on earth is that a pastime?!?!
Baseball is great but I do have a friend who has a perfectly rational take on this. He hates baseball because there's literally a player (the pitcher) whose sole responsibility is to avoid any action occurring. It's a good take. And I'm someone who passionately loves baseball. Much more of a pro baseball fan than a pro football fan.
Breakfast tacos. Yeah, alright!
5k run in Braintree this morning.
sunny and nearly 70 here today, no hard frosts yet...global warming on the march I guess.
There used to just be one poster on the main site I didn't really care for. We have found another.
Also, who knew JE hated dogs so much? Or maybe kids? Both?
I'm curious how the car makers view the dealers, they definitely eat into profitability compared to primarily using digital means to transact, but they also soak up inventory and in some senses level out supply and demand variability. But when demand greatly exceeds supply, the just eat in to potential margins.
Yeah, BusinessWeek had a big piece on this. According to them, the manufacturers like this scarce supply situation. Might an issue be carmakers having to finance all that inventory on the lot? I really don't know (but am channeling Jerry Lundegaard).
Dealers would rather have acres of cars to peddle on the spot. Very hard to buy on the spot now.
I ready that in Vt and NH, the night before Halloween is called “cabbage night.” True?
Yes, I do think that's true...I also recall some friends who worked with local banks for provided financing directly to dealers...not sure exactly why the manufacturers like this new model...perhaps it is because they don't have to offer those very expensive incentive programs to help dealers clear lots ? You know, the "get $5k back on select models" stuff...I assume the manufacturers had to be paying for that stuff.
Sickness has taken hold of the bunda house. Was the toddler who infected us, I say. ‘‘Twas him!
It is going to be a late night.
Coming in hot this morning
Comin’ into Los Angeleese

Don’t touch my bags, if you please,
Mister Customs Man…
Wow, that’s a lot of hours…
70-some degrees and sunny...i can take this.
It begins….
Jokes I love are often so specific that I am the only that appreciates them.
The sun will come up tomorrow.
Hand foot and mouth. Poor kiddos.
Focus!!!
stitches out, I should have Spalding tattooed on my face, maybe OPK has some suggestions...?
Man, I got this crud in my lungs that I just can’t cough up. They even gave me a breathing treatment yesterday to break it up and that didn’t work. Breathing fine and hopefully the antibiotics help but super annoying.
It is early.
Being able to sleep in would be nice.
Never heard of Omnist, TBH.
Moved the Skylark to a place where I can work on it. Need to figure out what I'm doing with it.
Steh auf, die sonne geht auf!
Bout to be November
Watched Top Gun Maverick finally. Was glad Iceman finally got what was coming to him and glad to see Goose's son redeem him for his absolute choke job in the first movie.
I heard Sauron showing up was a surprise...
I just had an "Elizabeth Warren" on the plane. I tried to stop a fart...but nevertheless it persisted.
I’ve already voted, but in retrospect I wish I had researched to see if any candidate(s) had a ban on the new extra bright headlights on cars.
Halloween!
I just did a power raking of my long driveway. They are forecasting thunderstorms this evening, so will be lucky if we get more than 5 trick-or-treaters. Which means I am stuck with a ton of Butterfingers and Nestle Crunch. YES. this IS bad b/c I am not a fan of either of these. Wishing I had stocked up on the REE' suhs and dark chocolate Kit Kats instead.
I read this "I just did a power ranking of my long driveway"
It's possible I read too many sports websites.
#5 - Leaves, they've really been impress these last few weeks and moved up the charts
#4 - Ice - been quiet these last 9 months, but I suspect they will be making a move soon
#3 - Acorns - dropping into the third spot after peaking at #2
#2 - Gravel - very solid driveway material. Just can't get over the hump to the top spot
#1 - Concrete - the king, can't be bested.
I "ran" a 5k in Harvard (the town) yesterday. It was a trail race. Important lesson learned - I am not a trail runner. ;) That said, I have run a few trail races before but none like this one, roots, leaves, rocks. I took wonky steps that tested my ankles three times in the first half mile so I said, "Nope". I walked the rest of it, slowly. It wasn't all that easy a walk. But, I finished, so Harvard, #65 - check! I did not injure an ankle but I'm sure I would have if I'd kept trying to run.
Does power raking get you a nice crest in the middle for proper drainage? Had to re-do my gravel driveway five years ago after the 500 downed trees debacle, and it ended up costing a pretty penny...two dump trucks of so called Sure Pack, and a fair amount of grooming...as for the Trick or Treaters, we haven't had any in the past 10 years, all the local kids grew up and we're too remote for anyone else. All the candy is for me. (some years ago I bought one of those humongous Costco bags of mini bars...Hersheys almond, milk, dark chocolate...and no one showed up. )
What a wet miserable Halloween.
Light showers here, coming and going. Oodles and oodles of kids. We've already gone through 8 good-sized bags for well over a hundred kids.
The rain hasn't slowed their demand for processed sugar! And as in recent years, gummy/fruity stuff is more popular than chocolate here, about three to one.

We were the only family out on our street. Phillies game postponed, 0 trick-or-treaters, we just took the kids to 4 neighbors' houses right around us.
Then we watched the first episode of White Lotus 2. Delightful.
Around 70 trick or treaters for me. I haven't blown out the pumpkin yet but I will in a few minutes. I usually wait until 9pm but I rarely get anybody after about 8:40pm.
By "power-raking", I meant I used my big plastic rake to double-time it so I could get it done during my lunch break. And I was pooped. Sorry, I did not know "power rake" was a real thing!

I bought the good stuff for me, but just a bag of each. I only had 8 kids come by, so there is a lot of the crappy stuff left. A large obnoxious group was out in the road long after I had turned my lights out, and I could have unloaded a bunch there, but they are REALLY obnoxious so I decided to keep the lights out. These people actually had their kids out even after the thunder and lighting had begun. Unbelievable.
Wow. Pfizer booster laid me out.
Work, work, work, work, work.
Fever. Backtracking or something new?
about 12 lbs of Chinese food in the fridge...
There was a kerfuffle about an hour ago so I let them out of the cage to run around. That usually solves any issues. They got their annual Halloween treat yesterday - I cut them each a morsel of fresh pumpkin when I'm carving the jack-o-lantern. Cookie and Evie happily ate their special treats. Pumpkin took it then dropped for Evie to finish off. Turns out Pumpkin is not a cannibal, she will not eat pumpkin.
Yesterday we and friends took a tour to Hope Cemetery in Barre, Vermont, one of the more amazing boneyards you will ever see...Granite Capitol of the World! Amazing craftsmen who have made outrageously interesting gravestones:https://www.google.com/search?q=hope...&bih=937&dpr=1
Having done that, we rambled downtown and found a Chinese restaurant...ate lunch portions of General Tso's chicken, bone in spare ribs, then took home for dinner sauteed string beans, sesame chicken, orange beef and house extremely special fried rice...it was just OK, I'd give it a B rating, but it was a gorgeous day for a ride, and the boneyard was amazing as usual...
Tempted! And of course, in the Small World category, there is a very significant Duke connection. The granite industry got rolling in the late 1800s...enormous numbers of craftsmen from Italy came over to do the work.
When they began building Duke University back in the what, thirties (?) they needed guys who knew how to do beautiful work with stone, so they brought a bunch of these guys down from Vermont
For fellow geezers out there, one of them was the father of former Durham Sun sportswriter and editor Hugo Germino who covered Duke extensively back in the late sixties and early seventies.

If humans joined hands around the equator most of them would drown.
Does anybody remember Hands Across America?
I get so mad when people say things that are lazy or demonstrably wrong on the politics thread. To be fair I read a broad overview of neonatal ventilation today and was discouraged at how much of it was incorrect. And it was by some of the real luminaries. I've been carrying the tension of that article in my shoulders all damn day.
Umm, I don't recognize anyone, but I did just turn it on.
We have heard (from someone in the ticket office) that quite a few folks dropped their season tickets when Coach K left. I imagine they lost a few more when folks saw the outrageous prices continued on into the Scheyer era. Plus they doubled the parking fees. This may be our last year buying tickets, and we have had them since 1963.
On a higher note, the obnoxious jackass behind us seems to have moved across Cameron to Section 5 (I hope!), so he's someone else's problem this season!
Oh no! My parents' seats are in Section 5. They don't go anymore though. There are 3 math professors (all now retired) that have shared 2 season tickets for almost as long as your family. My brothers and sometimes me have been using my dad's share of the tickets for several years. This season I'm the one paying for our share and I only took 2 games. If I make it down to use them, I hope the obnoxious jackass is in front of me. They are easier to deal with that way.
I don't know, I may have just given all my money to Duke?
(No, not really, but they did buy me breakfast.)
If you took the "over" position on our dishwasher installation (over/under was 2.5) you'd be a winner. They're sending a new savant over tomorrow morning for yet another attempt. Told them to send a new guy, the old guy was a severe dullard, even left his tools behind, d'oh!
Imma get some popcorn. Wondered when the board would catch up to the front page.
thick lamb chops and a bottle of Amarone..
So many of the posts in one of the threads seem to me like they are mired in 2014. I miss that too. But we don't live there anymore.
Momofuku noodles are worthy of the hype.
I don't think I've ever worked anywhere with Nets level dysfunction.
