I've always loved the Natural History's live bugs exhibit. I think the Holocaust Museum, while not technically enjoyable, must be included in any discussion of DC museums. The Jefferson Memorial is my favorite of the monuments/memorials even though it probably gets the least foot traffic. I also think the Iwo Jima statue across the river in Virginia is pretty cool, especially if you can catch the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon training.

I don’t like Boston teams.
The power at my place glitched off for several seconds a few minutes ago at exactly midnight.
The good news is that the several clocks that reset to 12:00 are still correct. :)
Beets make everything that comes out of me red. Always briefly alarming.
Technically, resumes are just a list of things you don’t want to do ever again.
My list grows longer…
More hail.
Beer s d sticky toffee pudding. Ugh.
I’m the kind of guy who would ask you to bring me some figgy pudding, but not be such a jerk as to refuse leaving your door stoop unless you did so.
They’re putting Dillon Brooks’ face next to “f***ed around and found out”. My my my.
I am currently in the air and space museum contemplating yaw control.
So many questions today.
Should I mow the lawn then eat lunch? Or vice versa ?
How many slices of bacon go on a BLT? Is it bread dependent?
Why am I always the only guy in Bath and Body Works?
Am I addicted to scented soaps?
Did CD manage to stay awake and control his yawns at the Air and Space Museum?
Yes, this is what I am doing. Kind of waiting for it to warm up also. Only 65F out.
Went with two, it was a loaf of sandwich bread so not much surface area.
I mean I'm not complaining...
See I suspected this but am in denial. I wash my hands a lot.
Nice, last museum I've been to was the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix. Went to the Space Center in Houston before that.
Just got back from a sheep shearing party.
My brain mostly doesn't work that way. I don't think up puns very often nor do I find puns particularly funny. I find this curious. I wonder if it's genetic.

Welcome to late spring in Texas.

My quiz bowl team made the Final Four at the national quiz bowl tournament this weekend.
I’m humbled, overjoyed, amazed, exhausted…just feel so much gratitude and joy.
Hah, we already played in it…the tournament was in Chicago, with a field of teams from across the country who all had to qualify through top performances at local tournaments throughout the year. So this is one of the great achievements of my career so far.
Thanks, bud!
And same to all who’ve offered congratulations. Some of you will remember way back in the recesses of history when I had no idea if anyone was ever gonna give me a shot and I wondered just what in the hell I was gonna do with my life, so today is one of those glowing days of affirmation that I’m spending my time right.
Welcome to May, y’all.
I wonder what the record is for fouling out of DBR.
Change of pace this weekend to attend a work conference held 15 minutes from where I live.
Even bigger change of pace to attend a work conference held next door to SatanCon 2023. Not sure how to describe the feeling one gets watching members of the Temple of Satan roam around the super ritzy Copley Place mall. I wonder how many $750 Thom Browne logo print jockstraps the Satanists purchased this weekend?
I typed, then deleted, half a dozen responses. All it would have done is hasten the inevitable, and it would not build good will or better friendships.
Auckland/Rotorua for a week, then on to Tasmania and Melbourne.
What did you enjoy? What was perhaps less than anticipated?
I enjoyed everything about New Zealand. We mostly road-tripped out from Auckland so didn’t spend much time actually in the city. I really enjoyed a lot of the Māori cultural exhibits and history. Taking a dip in the hot springs in Roturua was relaxing.
We did a trip out the Great Ocean Road west of Melbourne that shouldn’t be missed.
The guy who invented the windchill factor, Ted Sherman, passed away yesterday. He was 93 but felt like 62

And if I ever wrote an oddly comic novel that had French characters, I would definitely make one a retired military man and name his character “General Ennui.”
That Daria logo makes me instantly hear that off-kilter “La la la la-laaah.”
Also, I’m just pleasantly but not totally surprised that there was a closet Daria contingent on the LTE.
I did watch Office Space this weekend.
Gordon Lightfoot passed away. Not super familiar with his stuff but do know a few songs.
Just had the ceremonial Putting Away of the Snow Shovels. Deck furniture being moved outside. First lawnmowing scheduled for Saturday, very exciting.
Met a dude with twin daughters named Kate and Edith. I found that odd because I’ve always been told you can’t have your Kate and Edith, too.
Serenity now, serenity now!
Turns out, my 1997 Mazda pick up has a burned out check engine light.
This is the least surprising thing I've heard in ages.
What kind of postage would one need to mail the next two weeks in?
Asking for a friend.
before I sold my 2006 Volvo last month, I used to just wait to hit a bump and have the check engine light go out. And my mechanic pointed out that at least in Vermont you don't have to pay attention to said idiot light (vis a vis inspections) once the car is 15 years old.
I bet the first day of driver orientation at FedEx and UPS is really easy and the first chapter is entitled: "Yeah. Just park wherever you want."
GrandpaPK was the original dad joke machine. I have younger twin sisters, whom he constantly referred to as “Kate and Dupli-Kate.” I’m sure they were not amused after the first hundred times. He repeated the same jokes to us over and over, to the point we banned some of them at our family table.
(But he was an extremely interesting man, and certainly a man of his times. He also was a night bartender in his retirement years, so I am sure he had tons of incredible jokes he did not tell us. He really was a funny guy and a man with which one should not trifle.)
We've been hearing about this for a while in NC. Yep, people using the roads just as much but not paying the gas taxes that support the maintenance. And yes, some people get irked at the idea, but others interviewed said they understood. As someone who does not drive a lot, I would be all for mileage over taxes! Not sure how you would report it, though. Annual inspections? They could pay off those people for lowering your mileage count just as easy as they pay them off to pass cars that shouldn't. And yeah, probably inching towards PPB.
Que ganga!
If the projections for things like electric trucks are to be believed, all states and the Feds are going to have to confront this issue sooner rather than later.
I personally think that roads benefit everyone and so should be paid for from the general fund, not from any variant of a use tax. But I'm sure that's PPB, and if use tax is the policy of choice, then yes, a solution will be needed. Electric as a viable fuel choice is here to stay.
I've been told, "It’s a roll around in the grass kind of day!"
I see the summer movie thread is locked. Did someone mention Tucker Carlson again?
I have to do it. I’m sorry.
May the fourth be with you!
Ugh, I loathe mysith.

If Jack Sprat would eat no fat, and his wife would eat no lean, I bet they didn’t get invited to many dinner parties.
What pains in the arse.
Friday or Friyay?
Where does the time go?
Charles' Coronation is this weekend. I'll be in top hat and tails all weekend to celebrate. Rumor is OPK tried it on his wedding night to modest success.
Come here you naught little samosa.
I don't want anyone to be alarmed, but I think Palm Beach International Airport has taken me hostage. The only restaurant is a Chilis. Waiting for the airport's list of demands.
Home for 5 days before heading to Charlottetown PEI for a conference. Never been. Pretty excited.
