I did my imbibing last night...
Wow, things are really slow. Ozzie hasn't passed Shammrog yet:rolleyes:.
Sorry, I hadn't checked the posting hierarchy in a while. With this post I'm 21 posts behind Shammrog. Don't think I'll get there today - too much to do, too many places to go, including the Blue Devil Club luncheon today. We're still hoping that Coach K will be our speaker today, but no one is saying.
Wow this thread is totally being neglected these days. :(
I've been outta commission the last couple of days due to out of town guests and work commitments.
However, I know have a netbook(recently bought), a fast wireless connection, and some free time...
Corona time!
Corona with a lime!
I got my taxes done today.
I had to hire an accountant.
I had to file in two states and with the IRS.
I had some unusual income and deductions this past year.
I had some unusual drinks. :D
I think I get to deduct my CPA's fees.
I wish I could deduct this beer. Well, Maybe in another 10 minutes...:D
I think I need another Corona.
Oh boy. I wish I could deduct all of my beer as well.
One more Sam Adams for me. You can't buy this stuff, you know. You only rent it.
Captmojo, I think your avatar is scary looking.
He is King Bruno the Questionable. A kind and caring ruler.
Yippee! My best friend just called!
Well, a best friend call is certainly a lot more interesting than any of the topics I see on the otb thread list at present.
I didn't find them.
I think I'm on Corona #5.
I think, therefore, I drink beer.
I had the greatest chat with my best friend tonight.
My best friend was my freshman year roomie.
My post count is down. Deletions?
Why do. . . never mind!
I've been over on the EK Forum stirring up trouble. Geez there are a lot of light blue variety folks over there. OK, OK, so they are fairly respectful and I don't hate all Carolina fans, not really (but I wouldn't marry one) but wow. Does that mean we can all go to Inside Carolina and start some threads? Hey, maybe we should! ;)
I refuse to vacate my 'double double' just because of the actions of some moderator. This is now only post #2999, and who knows what it might be later today.

While my next post may be #3000 again, I refuse to wait until this thread gets to 12000 to post again. Unless it is tomorrow ;)
Actually, I think I'll go post in the Status Check thread now for #3000 redux!

Done! But the editing feature wouldn't accept the second avatar (????)
Don't get too excited. It is a miscellaneous deduction subject to the 2% floor. Only the portion of miscellaneous deductions (tax prep fees, investment fees, employee business expenses, etc.) that are over 2% of your adjusted gross income (last number on page 1 of Form 1040) actually end up being deductible.
Asus Eee PC 1000-HE, Dark Blue variety...with Windows XP(Home Edition). It's up and running fine after the first one was DOA. Getting it finally made me turn on the wireless portion of my router so I could in theory post or chat during games without having to leave my living room.
And why the Asus 1000-He? Faster processor from Intel as well as faster bus speed. Did I mention it comes in a dark blue?
Here's a question about tax prep fees: do this year's fees get deducted this year or next year? It's difficult to tell from the instructions. I always thought it was for the current year, but it's hard to know what e-file fees are going to be before you file.
I have a new laptop as well. I bought a Toshiba Satellite with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (2.26 GHz) with 3 GB of RAM and a 300 GB hard drive. I got a great deal at Circuit City. Mine's gray, though. Dark Blue would be better. OS is Vista. I was quite nervous after all the bad stuff I've heard, but I haven't had any problems at all. I, too, can now chat from the comfort of the recliner in my living room.
At the risk of getting this thread moved to the PPB, I'm really sorry that I'm getting my mortgage through Bank of America. Aside from the fact that they may go under, it's hard as heck to talk to someone about your mortgage. I thought I'd have someone local working on my loan, but they all get sent to a central processing center in FL. They gave me a name without an extension number, so I have to go through the voice prompt circle (their prompts aren't logical) to get put on hold.
I just had a moment of deja vu when I saw post #1,220. Seems like I've been here before. Either I did have posts deleted, or I'm experiencing the DBR version of Groundhog Day.
I pay to park in the garage below the building, and the space is a bit tight. Last weekend a person with a space near mine bought a new car, and he's parking both of his cars in his one-car space, one behind the other. This means that he's parked in the throughway, directly behind my space. I have to back out and around a corner, and he added to the degree of difficulty. He asked if it was a problem, I told him it was, and then he basically told me tough luck! I have complained to the management and they've done nothing. The second car is still there. I'm complaining to manangement again this morning, and I'm thinking about leaving a note on Arrogant Guy's car. What should I do if my complaints continue to be ignored? I'm thinking of complaining to corporate. Other ideas?
As an aside, this guy's not the only person with one space and two cars. Most people have to park their 2nd car in the lot outside. Apparently he thinks he's too good for this option. Good thing other residents in his situation don't think the same.
Counting down the days until I move out...
Hmmm, I think I've lost a few posts too, but not many, under 5.
Well, first thing I'd do is sick the shinkickers on him :D Failing that, and assuming you don't want to beat the cr*p out of him (or won't, even though you'd like to), I'd back my car up so it was both totally blocking the drive so nobody can pass (reasoning - if he's entitled to half the width of the garage, so are you, and if enough people complain then BOTH of you will have to stay within the newly defined depth limit) plus he'd be blocked in on both of his cars.
But you really should go the shinkickers route first!
Time to head to the golf course! Here's to a 9 X 9F day, both in the temps and on the scorecard!
Considering the nail method, the car in back would be no relief for either party. The one in front may block you, but it offers the advantage of watching him have to change it, if only to get the one in back, out of the space.
Thanks, Tilly and DiK! So far so good. I went to the office and complained; the person I spoke with said, "I'll call him how and let him know that if he wants to park 2 cars he can get an additional space." She was picking up the phone as I left. Both cars are gone now, which means he's out and about. The real test will be tonight/tomorrow morning. If he felt the shin kicks, he won't park in the way any more! :D
My public service announcement for the day: Don't forget to set your clocks ahead when you go to be tonight. We go on daylight savings time tomorrow - Spring Forward.
In another thread, some folks here expressed that I shouldn't go to an accountant, and that I should go with tax software.
We moved in the year, have two states to file in, bought & sold a house in the year, moved, etc...
What say you, DinK? Should we go with software or a specialist?
Thanks,
Lavabe
I have the following dilemma.
Fact: I am highly superstitious about some things.
Fact: Last Duke-UNC game, I went to the game watch in LA.
Fact: Duke lost.
Should I go to the game watch tomorrow or stay home and eat pepperoni?
I'm not sure I can be of any advice, but I can share a painful story wit you. :D
I moved between 3 states (NC-SC, SC-NC, NC-CA) in the middle of the tax year and was royally screwed over when my company made mistakes in their contributions to each state. It seems they either didn't switch states, or switched to the wrong state 3 years in a row. I finally figured out my mistakes when I received about a billion audits. Turns out I had filed using the wrong forms and that I still owed money from each year, to each state (that's 2 mistakes per year). Of course the juice had been running since the first year so I owed thousands now. Thankfully, my boss went to bat for me and my company gave a me a nice big fat bonus check for the total amount of money to the IRS.
Good luck!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack... I just clicked on the PPB by accident. Somebody help me! I feel dirty!
It depends on how comfortable you are in preparing your taxes on your own. I haven't looked KY & GA returns in a while to remember how they handle the resident/non-resident issue - states don't all do it the same way.
I doubt you had a taxable gain on the sale of your house, so that shouldn't be an issue. (Since you are married, you would have to have a gain greater than $500,000 on the home sale to have a taxable gain. This could very if you hadn't lived in the home 2 out of the prior 5 years or if you used any portion of the home for business purposes.) You will want to watch the closing statements on both the sale and purchase to determine any real estate taxes that were paid. You probably paid some on the home you sold and they probably paid some on the home you bought. You will need to reduce your deduction for real estate taxes paid on the new home by the amount the seller paid on the closing statement. Also check your closing statement on the new home for any points paid on your mortgage that aren't reported on your Form 1098 reporting mortgage interest paid on your new home.
Moving expenses are somewhat limited but the IRS has Publication 521 available on their website with information on this.
Good luck. If you do go with having someone prepare the returns, be sure to get referrals from people you know in the area. I think word of mouth is the best way to find people in service/professional industries.
That is a very good question. As of 5 minutes ago, his new race car (!) is parked in the space and his other car is gone. We'll see how long it is until he tries the same stunt again.
Thanks for the offer to kick some shin! I'm still reserving the right to take you up on it! :D
I vote for stay home and eat pepperoni. I am doing my part by not watching the game until about an hour after it starts. The joys of the DVR! This formula has proven successful in the last several games, so I'm sticking with it. The only potential wrinkle in the works is the frakkin' MO Valley Tournament Championship game that immediately precedes The Big Game on CBS. Duke-UNC will likely be joined in progress here.
If you really need some help with pesky neighbors, I can send my pest control team. Grant acts tough, but if you really need some muscle Kelly is always up to the task.

My Acer Aspire One has a 8.9" screen, but the display is beautiful and is more than adequate for most applications on the web. At only $299 now for the three cell battery model (and $369 for the 6 cell battery model), it's tough to beat it. And of course it comes in Duke Blue (as well as several other inferior colors).
Happy Daylight Saving Time day, everyone! I love this day. I will gladly give up one hour of sleep, to leave work during daylight again. It'll be light out here until after 7PM tomorrow, woot!
Part of the issue goes to use. I'm only using this for limited tasks so while more resolution would be nice, it isn't all that needed. This definitely isn't a desktop replacement. What it will allow me to do is turn off my main PC for extended periods of time.
Uh, I've already reported this to the admins., but the link to Throatybeard's HPR isn't working. Seems as though Duke took it off their server.
Sigh. I needed to point an uninformed person toward the definition of 9F this morning.
And, I keep getting kicked off the board. Every time I attempt to post this morning, I've had to sign in again.
I had the hardest time remembering my password.
I never sign in here because I'm permanently signed in.
Except for today. Today I had to sign in.
I wonder what's so special about today that I had to sign in to the board.
I've got to go now.
I need to be back home by 4, and it's going to take me 4 hours to get there.
Plus I need to build in time to shop on the way home.
I'm shopping for my Mom's birthday present.
My mom turns 75 on Tuesday, and I need to give her the perfect gift.
So I'm shopping for her birthday gift on my way back home.
And I'm trying to restore my post count this morning.

CB&B will be here in 20 minutes then we take off for Wilmington to watch the women's ACC Championship game and then . . . . carolina GO TO HELL!!! I'm pulling out all the good voodoo and vibes I can!!
GTHC, GTH!!!!!
I'll try to log into the chat on my iPhone, but it's not always easy to post.
Losing that hour of sleep was a little tough but at least I didn't lose 200 posts again over night:o:rolleyes:.
As a coincidence, my Mom turns 88 today. The only gift she requests...
BEAT THE HOLES!
I can't buy her anything. She won't take it. No rational reasons. It's never that she doesn't like it. It's always --- "The wrong size...Wish I could use it...Not my color". What she really wishes is that I would not spend money on her. She won't even allow me to pick up even something as basic as a carton of milk for her, if I'm at the store already, without paying for it. I can't get her anything and it is a frustration. Oh well. Hopefully her large wish above comes to pass.
Give her a hug, tell her you love her and make her a card from Print Shop. Two outta the three won't cost you a cent and the third will be a few pennies worth of ink and paper. I will bet she will appreciate your love AND frugality;).
And if that doesn't work, take some random tarheel out behind the barn/house tonight and knock the living #$%^ outta him:o.
I've gotta leave now and pick up some flowers, already have the card. Need to get back before the women's game.
When I came back from church, I found that Arrogant Guy had both of his cars parked in his single car space again. I went by the office to tell them and spoke again with the person I talked to yesterday. Apparently when she called him yesterday he copped attitude with her, too. Told her that his two cars together weren't any longer than a truck (extended cab, maybe). He doesn't seem to get the problem: he's parking two cars in a one car space and blocking the road. One of the other office folks went down with me and looked - his second car is about two-thirds out of the space. Arrogant Guy is going to be talking to the leasing manager next. I got the impression that the office people are on my side. The person that called him yesterday and got chewed out is going to be talking to the leasing manager first and filling her in on what's happened. Dude's attitude isn't going to help his case. :D
Happy birthday to Mama Mojo! Hope her dearest birthday wishes are fulfilled!
Where is everyone? Is there a game on or something? Guess I'll know in about an hour...
Posting during a game, but in sight of TV...
thank you Asus and d-link
Just got back from riding my bike in the park. Riding into 20-30 mph wind gusts is a bit of a workout. I am so out of shape!
Ugh...I'll be happy to see Lawson go. He realizes that he needs to be aggressive when they are switching on him. I think Cota realized the same thing years ago.
Before I log off, Mom thanks all for the good wishes. So do I. :)
I'm sad :(. While I had a good time hanging out with my brother and CB&B, I have decided that I will not watch Duke basketball in a public place ever again. We were watching with the Wilmington Duke Alumni club at the Fox and Hound in Wilmington. Fortunately they had rented part of the restaurant for the Duke game. The main bar was filled with holes by the time the men played. Despite the the loss, it wasn't too bad until our waitress (who had been very good) said, "sorry guys. I haven't been able to yell all game. Wooo!" Stupid move. I marked out the tip I was going to leave her and told that she lost her tip and that it would have been smarter to keep quiet. She said, "well I did say 'sorry guys.' " I told her she would have had a nice tip if she hadn't rubbed it in. I can't stand Tar Heels.
This is one advantage of living in Mass.
Donate to my marathon run in her name? I'll admit it, I am shameless.
Here's proof, http://www.firstgiving.com/lisaburdick.
My oldest son and I went to the Celtics game today. Last minute tickets were offered and since it was a 1pm game, I figured we'd get home about the time the Mo Valley Championship was over. Missed half of the first half but it was almost worth it. Celtics played the Magic and I got to see JJ!! I was rooting for the Celtics and JJ. Celtics have 2 injured starters and it showed. Offense was terrible, on both sides of the court. JJ played some, not much, hit a textbook three though and made quite a few nifty passes that would have been assists if the receivers knew how to shoot the ball.
After the other game, sigh, I went out for a long run. It had gotten late and even with the recent clock switch I wasn't able to go quite as far as originially planned because of darkness. After 9 miles I really need to see where I'm stepping so I called it a night after 9 1/2 but I did run the route 10 minutes faster than the last time, so, that's the good news.
I've done a lot of thinking over the past few days. Talked about a few things w/ my mom. I think I'm coming close to making some decisions. There's option A, B, C, and so on... and it will just depend how things fall out.
I gave up watching in public after last year's Atlanta DBR Mafia meeting that saw us lose to WVU. A while ago, my wife and I watched it with the StLouis Duke Club ... that resulted in failure too.
Today, we didn't attend the Kentucky Duke alumni watch party. Still no luck.
Perhaps we needed a regional brunchgate, complete with B-List food and drink.;)
Always good to have option, IMHO.
I missed a lot yesterday.
Happy Belated Birthday Momma Mojo.
DukePA, love that you canceled the tip. :D
CathyCA, glad you made it home safely. Ever thought of having your own undisclosed recycling bin? Please give Momma CathyCA a big hug and wish her a happy birthday for me.
ArkieDuke, I'm on my way for some serious shin kicking.
DevilAlumna, Ozzie, and Ymo, did not get anything ya'll wrote about monitors. ;)
Bostondevil, way to go on a faster 9.5 mile run.
Finally, a shameless plug for DaddyGalore, Happy Birthday. Lots of parental birthdays this week.
Ymmm, chopped liver! Is that the same as pate? Or Neese's Liver Pudding?
Is breakfast in Oslo comprised of lutefisk and crackers?
Breakfast in Danvers is not...
Today was a long day. And the first of many.
This week alone.
And for the rest of the month.
I'm watching Dancing With The Stars tonight.
You're the only one watching this thread in the last 12 hours.
Another 8 hours between posts:eek:. Anyone awake out there? Bueller?
I'm awake! They're calling for storms later today here in St. Louis.
I'll watch 'Dancing With The Stars' if I'm home and it's one and there are no basketball games I'd rather watch but it's not appointment television for me. That Samantha person makes me really appreciate Ryan Seacrest. American Idol, on the other hand, gets DVR'd if I can't be home to watch it.
Perhaps the LTE has caught a cold?
