Thanks to all for the status congratulations. I don't think I ever would have made it without the LTE. Not being a basketball expert makes contribution on the EK board difficult at times
Is that good or bad?
Ha! Quoting myself again.
So anyway, here's pics of the new baby.

And my dad.

And my mom.

Rita's also in the pictures. Figure out who Rita is. And Rosie. Almost forgot Rosie's there too, in part anyway.
But I digress... it's currently in the family room, but I've been advised it's going to be relocated to the office.
I am the coolest daughter EVER. :D
Oldest son thinks Rita and Rosie are the cows.
Got back to Smithfield about 10 after a stop or two. 1100 miles down, 1000 more to go Friday through Sunday. I hope the forecast snow, etc. for the Northeast is bogus and doesn't interfere with getting to the game on Saturday. I'll worry about getting home on Sunday on Sunday morning.
Moment of Mom brilliance. I was watching SportsCenter with the boys, well, some of them, and they show the last second shot by Cleveland State to beat Syracuse. I said, "Cleveland State, they were a March Madness Cinderella team sometime in the '80s, they made the Sweet Sixteen." Next highlights shown by ESPN? Cleveland State from the 1986 tournament, the first 14 seed to make the Sweet Sixteen. Yes, they were properly impressed.
I don't think I've done three posts in a row in awhile.
I wonder how many I can do before somebody jumps in. This makes 4. Yes, I'm adding nonsense that takes 30 seconds to type, just because it takes 30 seconds to type.
Safe travels, Ozzie!
I'm also hoping the travel gods shine on Mr. DA -- he's braved 7" of snow+ice in Seattle this morning (which is 3x more than i've ever seen in my 5 years out there), to travel through Denver to Omaha today, where he's being greeted with a 60 mile drive through freezing rain/sleet (he's on the road right now,) to find me and spend the long weekend with my family.
He must love me, to go through all of that crud just to sit around and drink coffee with his in-laws. :D
Now I'm at 5. I got some yarn in the mail today that I bought on ebay. I've been very good lately but this was some discontinued stuff that I'd been looking for so I made an exception. No more yarn until I finish something.
Fabulous job posting everyone! I'm dizzy from reading it all.
Turk 182 - took me until Sue's post to get that!
Way to go Bostondevil impressing the boys in the house.
Glad I don't live in the NE anymore. I moved to NC to get away from the snow.
Sue - awesome gift for the parents. FWIW I had figured out who Rosie and Rita were. Glad Bostondevil's kids beat me to it.
Ozzie - Glad you made to NC from FL safely. Hope you make it to DC - NJ - DC - NC safely too.
DA - oh yes, Mr. DA definitely loves you to travel through all that to get to you. I'm happy for you. :D
Whew! Did I get it all?
Well folks, I'm on may to Charlotte through Chicago O'Hare. Wish me luck! I'll be online every now and then, but the times I'm not, I'll miss y'all. Have a Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah, Holidays and all that good stuff.
Rise and shine!!
It's a brand new day!!
I feel like using a lot of exclamations today!!
Cheers!!
Lavabe!!
If you get Chronicle of Higher Education (subscription), you might want to check the piece today entitled "Go Duke Blue Devils!?!"
I found the article here, and I'm not even a subscriber.
It's a good article--he was most complimentary of his students. :)
Adding my safe travel wishes and good vibes for a win over Xavier. My parents and nephew are joining Ozzie at the game. Wish I could be there, but I just can't get away from work. Dang it to hell.
I spoke with my nephew last night (11 years old) and he wasn't sure he would be able to sleep last night because he's so psyched for the game and his first NY trip.
GO DUKE!!!
I hope Mr. DA arrived safely.
We actually had a warm spell - after some freezing drizzle, the temperatures got up to the 50s overnight promoting some snow melt. The temps are now schedule to drop over the weekend with a predicted high of 7 on Sunday and beastly cold wind chills. As good a reason as any to stay inside, watch the chefs snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again, and bake my Christmas cookies.
You have to *not* be an expert at anything to post on Off Topic... :D
My only beef with some of the EK posters is that, like it or not, Duke teams every once in a while will actually LOSE A GAME. Some people over there get upset if every game isn't a 20-point slaughter, or if the opponents actually play well.
OK, I'm starting to run out of replies or things to say and I need to pass the baton. I can't in good conscience post a word at a time, sorry folks...
Oh one other thought - any of the vball players stay up to watch the women's final four last night? Penn State vs Stanford on Saturday in the finals.
Penn St almost pulled a 1991 UNLV - they were undefeated. They went up 2-0 on Nebraska. Nebraska won the next two games to even the match and took a lead in the 5th game before Penn State stepped it up a notch.
Mrs Turk stayed up late to watch it and was in a foul mood when the alarm went off this AM...
Well, looks like I got 7 posts in a row before DIK terminated my streak with extreme prejudice with a post about the WEATHER... (yawn...)
"Thank you very much. Why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it?!?"
I hope she is not trying to become my arch-nemesis. I have enough of those as it is...
In an attempt to find good things that happened today, I found this on infoplease.com:
December 19
1732: Benjamin Franklin began publishing Poor Richard's Almanac.
1776: Thomas Paine published his first American Crisis essay, in which he wrote, "These are the times that try men's souls."
1843: Charles Dickens published "A Christmas Carol."
1946: War broke out in Indochina when Ho Chi Minh attacked the French.
1972: Apollo 17 splashed down in the Pacific, ending the Apollo program of manned lunar landings.
1984: Britain and China signed an accord returning Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty on July 1, 1997.
1998: President Bill Clinton impeached on two counts by the House of Representatives.
2003: Muammar al-Qaddafi of Libya announced that his country would discontinue development of weapons of mass destruction.
Hmmm... mixed bag there. Funny enough, here was today's word quiz:
Young Turk
"Those kids are a bunch of Young Turks," grumbled the teacher. He was referring to students who were
a.) annoying little ankle biters who refused to settle down.
b.) impatient reformists who expected their old curmudgeon of a teacher adopt new ways, and to do it NOW.
c.) unfamiliar with study habits and research methods.
Wait a minute, I have to choose ONE?!? Where is "d.) All of the Above" ?
I've driven through New Jersey...
I dated a nice Jewish boy from Bergen County. He, BTW, is the former boyfriend who was a Hole. Thus, the first time we broke up, I became a Duke fan.
Your parents called me today just before noon and wanted to know where I was (about 18 miles into VA on I-95). Their flight to NYC was canceled, and they are driving up - they were probably an hour or so behind me. Don't know how far they will drive today - I told them go as close to NYC as they can get (I assume they want to keep their hotel reservation in Manhattan tonight?)
I'm safely at BDBD's house near DC, and we are going to the Wizzard's game tonight, but alas no Elton Brand for the 76'ers  Driving up tomorrow morning to NJ shouldn't be too bad. Coming back on Sunday may be another story?????
Just spoke with the parents and they are north of Baltimore in typical Friday evening traffic. If I know them, they'll keep pushing until they get to NY.
It was fun being reared by rabid Duke fans! They've been to Alaska twice to watch Duke play bball and now refusing to cancel their trip due to a little snow  I'm so proud of them :)
Wow, I'm not sure how to say how much I admire their devotion. I certainly don't measure up...
What's the deadline on the posting goal? The start/end of the day on the 20th? The time of the first post?
And what number are we shooting for again?
I had a really good day! How about you guys? I went to war with this a-hole at work and I kicked butt! All I gotta say is: don't mess with a woman about to have her first hot flash
We left work early due to the threat of snow...
Where did everyone go?
Christmas shopping? Everyone was Snow is coming! grocery shopping this afternoon. I thought I was back down south.
For the sake of the LTE goals, can't everyone get A's?
I have discovered I'm not as devoted to the Celtics as I am to the Devils. Actually, I already knew that but here's proof. Originally, hubby was supposed to take the older three boys but his back is still bad enough that sitting in Garden seats wasn't an option. So, I was supposed to take them. Once they declared a snow emergency, I backed out. If we still lived in Cambridge and I could have walked to the T, I was there, but the 2 miles to the outdoor T stop where I now live? No way. Sorry KG. I considered calling a cab and I called the Newton police to find out if it was even possible to park anywhere near the T tonight (it's not). I punted. We ate $180 worth of Celtics tickets. Man.
We only have 59 posts to go to make our secondary goal of 7320.
Oh, and the question was raised about when we need to hit 7500. I believe when I first proposed 7500 as a goal, I said by midnight on the 21st. So, we've got 26 1/2 hours, and only 248 to go, not even 10 an hour. Wow, we might make it.
Oops, make that 237.
Now I'm going to go watch the Celtics.
Hey bb, if you don't head out tomorrow, you can still come to my party tomorrow night. ;) It's on no matter the weather. I'm planning on baking a lemon chess pie, among other things.
BB has been sighted?
so, I checked in with the parents about an hour ago and they were on the outskirts of Philly and had just passed by the place where the Eagles play. (I can't keep up with all those corporate names)
Let's go Duke!!!
Yeah, the corporate sponsorship deals are kind of humorous. Someone buys the rights for ten years and gets taken over 6 months later. Or goes bankrupt.
For the record (and to increase the LTE post count : ), this is Ezmerellda posting. DukePA has enjoyed a few Corona Lights along with a Chimay . . . ymmmmm.
Hi Ez! I like her!
Just got back from the Wizzard's game. Not nearly as much fun as watching Duke play, but an interesting diversion. 76'ers won by 4, even without Elton.
On the road at 7 tomorrow morning for lunch near the Meadowlands at noon.
Ezzie(not to be confused with Ozzie :) ), I'll tell your parents hey for you when I see them in the afternoon!
I'm sitting here reading my mom's basket of Christmas cards. You know what I really hate? Those stupid brag-n-gag newsletters that all the pretty people send.
I really despise reading about violin-playing-travel-soccer-science-fair-winning-tropical-island-vacationing-second graders. Enough already! Just send me a cute picture of your kid. I don't care how he or she did in the spelling bee last April. Nor do I care how many tomato plants you put in your garden this spring.
It's strange not reading this or posting for a couple days. I think this make 13 in a row in my catch up mode:o. That should do it until I wake up after a good night's sleep. I've done my part...
Y'know, I haven't had a good PW frenzy in a long while...
I go away for a little while, and suddenly DukieInKansas has over a thousand posts! I'll never catch up! Congrats!
How's Christmas shopping going? I'm nowhere near finished!I'm going to head out this morning and hit the doorbuster sales.
I went ice skating in an outdoor rink earlier this week and had a great time. Stayed pretty close to the rail. I'm thinking maybe I should give myself lessons for Christmas so I can actually get away from the wall.
Weather here has been crazy. We got freezing rain on Thursday night; I did a not-so-graceful nosedive on the sidewalk in front of my apartment building. Woke up Friday morning and the temp was in the 40s. No sign of the ice.
Due to all the recent security problems with Explorer, I recently switched over to Safari as my default browser. Is it just me, or is it loads faster than IE? Has anyone else noticed this?
As an aside, I once held the thread record for number of consecutive posts (10, I think). Does the record still hold?
Could I possibly break my own record, or will I jinx myself by even mentioning it?
I'm really bummed; I searched my TV schedule and it doesn't appear that I can watch the big game this afternoon. I'm hoping that the local CBS station is really showing the game and it's just not showing up on my DVR search.
My church did our big Lessons and Carols service last weekend. It went pretty well, but we didn't do the traditional processional (Once in Royal David's City). We sang O Come All Ye Faithful instead. Has anyone else ever tried to walk with a lit candle while singing a familiar carol with verses you've never seen before?
Well, keep on posting but your string is about to be interupted. Perhaps you'll need to start over?
Where the heck is everyone this morning? I was certain that someone would come in and thwart my attempt to set a new PW high mark.
Actually, I had not been on the board for 2-3 days so I sat down for about an hour last PM/this early AM and started on page 2 of the OTB and caught up reading and responded to all those posts here I had not read. Timing was great as it appeared no one else was posting and there were quite a number of posts that grabbed my interest. Just so happened to be a LONG string of consecutive replies:o;).
What little time I have at the computer lately has been taken up by Facebook. I've been chatting with people I haven't seen or talked to in years. It's been great fun!
My PW frenzy has taken me to Grant Hill status! I may have to bask, albeit briefly.
I'm competing for the spot of most hated poster on DBR. Well, at least the LTE. There are too many good contenders for that honor on DBR...
Costco is guaranteeing Dec. 24th delivery if you order by Dec. 21st.
BTW, as an FYI so much for secondary goals...
I definitely go in to temporary lulls...
Probably 10 inches or so, a lot of wind so the drifts may make it seem like more. Definitely not an upstate New York multiple feet at one time snow.
You're probably right there. I have always wondered if the pun thing is nature or nurture. Did I thrive as a chemistry major at a liberal arts college because I was naturally a punster, as were the majority of the chemistry faculty members? Or, did I become more of a punster from being around people who are punsters?
The sidewalks are clear in my apt complex and they are finishing up the roads...not sure what the rest of the place looks like.
I thought 7500 was targeted for tomorrow. Perhaps we should get BD here to clarify?
Things are probably good, then. I used to clear my driveway when I lived in Maumelle ('burb of LR). My neighbors always said they'd let theirs melt when I offered the use of my snow shovel. Their driveways were then solid ice and mine was totally clear. They never learned.
