Milestones are always nice to achieve...
BillyBreen must have some important work deliverable due
Good morning folks. I'm glad to see we're all waxing nostalgic about the LTE today. Any of my friends would tell you that, as the resident sentimentalist, I'm always game to wax nostalgic about anything.
I'm doing it again, posting in other threads. I'm risking my 'highest percentage of posts in one thread' achievement.
I've got my playwrights' workshop tonight. We will read my new play and see how it goes. I'm going to send the Duke/Carolina one out again, this time to a theater in Chicago that wants plays that only use a table and 2 chairs as the set. Hey, it fits the bill and Coach is from Chicago so, maybe. I kind of doubt it though. This is a niche play that might have a hard time getting produced.
I'm the most recent poster in the top 4 threads right now, so I've got that going for me.
Hey BD, congratulations on 1000 posts! As already noted, seriously, you should write something. :)
Devildeac must be scared to post now that I have leap frogged ahead in the LTE post count. :D
Hmmm, I'm thinking we may need to pick another day for our record setting posting marathon.
I'm wondering if this post will show up at 11:11 on 9/9.
Lots of silly work today, but enough time to post a congrats to BD on her milestone. WAY TO GO, BD!!:D:D
I was completely shocked at BD's PW blitz. Then again, it doesn't seem to be as crazy as the EJam thread blitz, which got consolidated.
I have to go up to Notre Dame this weekend. Anything good to do up there? Any good brews or hot dogs?
Cheers,
Lavabe
Go Michigan!
I love lunch time. :D
Let's keep the terminology straight here. I am not sure I have ever double posted, at least intentionally. I have however, on the EXTREMELY rare (cough, cough) occasion, fired off 5 or 8 or perhaps even 10 consecutive posts:o;). I have to return to work now or I will fall asleep at the keyboard/work before taking care of the rest of my patients this afternoon.
Celis is an interesting story. Peter Celis (IIRC) was a brewmaster for Hoegarden (sp?) and moved to Austin (?), Texas about 12 years ago to re-create his Celis White there because the H20 mineral content was so similar there to what was used in Hoegarden. I thought it was a remarkably similar brew. He then moved to Meechigan and I don't know why. Celis was produced there for a while but I never had any of it. If it is still brewed, I'd love to have some of their products again.
Indiana brews? Hmm, try the Alcatraz Brewing Company brewpub in Indianapolis. Yea, it's kinda far from South Bend but might make a nice lunch or dinner stop:D.
Hey BD,
Congrats on your 1000th post. I have to admit, I teared up reading it.
Tilly (you can call me Tilly anytime, I'll respond)
Sorry I missed the PW marathon. Work got in the way, has it has lately. Arrrrgggghhhh!!!!:confused::(
OY... the 4PM hour contained NO posts.
Perhaps we should come up with a discussion point guaranteed to bring into the LTE some new blood.
Who will be the next new poster to the LTE?
Hmm...
I'll choose Jason Evans.:) Any other guesses out there?
Cheers,
Lavabe
Can someone give me a brief synopsis of this thread, or do I have to read all 182 pages :-)
Ok I have a hypothetical. If we were to get another board, where Earl Jam (and anyone else) could post whatever he wanted, free of the mods whims..would this thread be moved to said board, or would it stay in OT?
Congrats to 2535, a.k.a. Tinkerbell (for a few moments at least).
SEE... we'll get some new blood in here to hold up (or down) the traditions of the LTE!
Who will be the next new person on the LTE?
The more, the merrier on the biggest thread in the DBR!
Isn't Wilson the LTE historian?
Cheers,
Lavabe
toughbuff1, being that you're in Baltimore, are you an O's fan?
Earljam and I are too. We've been tossing around the idea of suing to get rid of Angelos - or are you his son? I heard his son visits the boards. If you are Mr. Angelos the younger I totally deny everything I just wrote. You can't prove it was really me anyway.
Blow through milestones like they were nobody's business. You only live once...
It is populated by many of the same posters. :)
Notice that I am employing the drafting stragegy that is often employed by Lavabe, devildeac, et al. :D
Drafting is an excellent idea...
You are quite welcome Sir Turk. The real kudos must go to Sir Billy of Clan Breen and the early regulars who made the thread what it is today, as well as the Mods for hooking up the cool milestones. (At least I think it was the mods)
No need to lurk, because whenever I find a poster achieving a milestone, I post a screengrab of their achievement. You'll live on forever there. :-)
Lavabe and I are now tied for number of posts in this thread. Well, we were:D
There is some SERIOUS PW'ing occurring on this thread today. And, yes, thank you, I am doing my best to comply:o.
Ha, so much for Fish80 and his threat/challenge/call out earlier today (or was that yesterday?);).
Oh yeah, 5 hours of sleep last night... but I did have some napping yesterday.
SO, I think we can do this 24 hour record. We had a good run until 3PM yesterday, when attention was diverted from BD's stated goal. BLAST that discussion of all those threads in the OTB.;)
Remember, we must get at least one post in every one hour slot for 24 straight hours. And if that brings in a few new LTE'rs, EVEN better. Key will be 2535's and DA's participation from the West Coast. If they chime in at 1AM and 2AM Eastern tomorrow morning, I think we can do it.
So, getting back on track with this thread, I erred on my trip to Notre Dame. Turns out they rescheduled and pushed ahead by one week the conference. SO, what food and brew to find up in Notre Dame?
Thanks,
Lavabe
Although the Braves have been long out of the playoff race in MLB, it looks like the Cardinals are in this race, and may pull it off.
This could get interesting!
Cheers,
Lavabe
Just beat to it Lavabe...
I guess this is really my normal time slot. Of course, what are our objectives in the PW frenzy? I think Lavabe and I are thinking we must have a post every hour for the 24 hour period...
This is correct. I hope someone will take care of the 8-9AM slot.
Our objectives are world domination ... or at least a new record for posting frequency on the DBR OTB. I believe no other thread has ever gone through a 24 hour period with posts in every hour.
Cheers,
Lavabe
I can sneak one in at 8:00 a.m. I need to pay attention to what I type...
Quote:
Just beat to it Lavabe...
I'm posting just after 8am EDT. That should take care of this hour.
Wow, Rudy D'Emilio! (I'll be honest here, who?)
Before my time...

Happy Wednesday from the Heartland.
For the 10 am to 11 am slot via cellphone
And just in case, here is one for 11am to noon. One of my employees is looking at me wondering what the heck I am doing...why don't you just use your PC?
Something brought up on another thread, the ability to play guitar. So, here's a question for the LTE, what musical instruments can you/do you play?
I play piano and can fake it a bit on guitar.
Handbells
I'm a bass player at heart.
I also like to dabble in the guitar and harmonica, and can play just enough piano to help write songs (back when I used to write). I was also a classically trained violinist from the age of eight until we moved to eastern NC where there the school system didn't have a symphony or any stringed instruments.
Oboe, bassoon, and sax.
I once played clarinet, but don't go telling anyone.
Cheers,
Lavabe
"I'm thinking of putting the band back together. Maybe you could join us. "
EarlJam on the six string
Me on the bass
Bostondevil on piano
DukieInKansas Handbells
Lavabe on the reeds
Thanks, Miles, but I'm not sure you want me on piano. I mostly play Chopin.
Hmmmm, maybe keytar.;)
One time devildeac posted 9 in a row. I was going for the record, but devildeac snuck one in there, so now I have to start over.
My spell checker doesn't like snuck.
This should be my 757 post, another fine airplane. My brother flies the 757 and 767. We never know where in the world he is at any given time. Germany today, I think.
Okay, now I'm stringing some together, shooting for 10 in a row. Saddle up, devildeac. Can you hear me now? :D
Score! That means I definitely want you in the band! Chopin is awesome and if you can play Chopin then you can roll with us anyday! I've been trying to tell people for years that metal is nothing more than modern classical music. It's also the only genre where, IMHO, artists are breaking new ground. Not that I'm suggesting that we start a metal band, just trying to say that you've got the skills!
Well, then, I'll make you cry with Nocturne #2.
In a good way.
Oh no, did we mess up Fish80?
Oops!:D:rolleyes::p
Can everybody make sense of that last little flurry of posts? I better go eat lunch.
Watch out, devildeac, I'm only one post behind. Wait, with this post we're tied!!!! :p
Maybe I should put some meat in the post to make it legit.
Lunch was a disappointment.
the flute and piano. Though the flute has been in the last 10 years, haven't really played the piano since high school, which was over 20 years ago.
I can't keep a beat. They wouldn't let me march people around in the Army. True story!
Egads. Shammrog has created two Shiny Happy People threads in ... the PPB. Thankfully, he did not create another Sarah Palin thread (we need more of those:rolleyes:).
It's a different culture there. No emoticons.
I agree with Wilson.
Cheers,
Lavabe
The real difference between the OTB and the PPB ...
the use of emoticons!
For example, the Shiny Happy People Thread is devoid of the requisite number of smilees.
How can you have a thread with that title, and without more than five smilees?:):D
It's a crazy world over there.;)
Cheers,
Lavabe
A much happier world over here. But occasionally all should venture over to the dark side just to see the difference.
I can play Piano, a bit of violin, and I enjoy singing. (Mostly in my car.)
Just posting to make sure we hit the 5-6PM PDT (8-9PM EDT) time zone.
The food wasn't really bad but I discovered I couldn't cut it with a plastic fork so I ended up just throwing most of it away. I suppose if it had been better, I would have made a greater effort. No company, I work with a bunch of losers who have lunch at their desk, a habit I refuse to adopt. (They are, actually, quite nice people, but they do eat lunch at their desks.)
Note: I don't eat lunch alone everyday but I forgot to make plans ahead of time today and that can lead to solo eating.
95% of my work days I work through lunch and go home an hour early. The other 5% I go home hungry and late.
I am one of those people who eat at there desk. I try and get home for lunch once a week and go out once a week. So at my desk about 3 days a week. If I eat at work I try and mix it up but end up what I call a Chicken with Salad in a Tortilla for lunch.
Covering the 9-10PM EST hour --
There's no such thing as too much caffeine!  :D
I have a medical condition that the doctors told me if I cut back on caffeine the condition would probably go away. I told them (there were two in the room, I think one was a resident) I only drink one cup of coffee a day. How in the heck does one cut back on caffeine when one is only drinking one freekin' cup a day! Needless to say, I'm taking my chances. Will try another method of treatment that isn't so drastic. Oh, in case anyone is wondering, the condition is not life threatening. And, I don't drink tea or soda.
10-11 PM covered just in case...but I am headed to bed shortly
Heavens no I wouldn't drink it. It shall sit there in your honor. And anyone who touches said cup or asks, we have their knuckles rapped. :D
We did this for my good buddy Rob who suffered a transient ischemic attack. Each night when we went to the pub, we ordered a pint of Guinness and sat it at the stool next to us. A couple of people tried to sit down because they noticed no one was drinking the pint. They complained to the bar tender when I explained that the seat was taken and he politely reminded them whose bar they were in, and whose rules they could follow.
I had a medical condition which gave me heart palpitations, anxiety attacks, panic attacks, and horrific sleep issues (horrible dream and overall sleep issues). Having attended a drugs, brain, and behavior course near my office, I recalled how caffeine could be affecting me.
I quit caffeine cold turkey (and I mean I LOVE coffee), including iced teas, sodas, etc... In the last two years, I have had a non-decaf pepsi maybe twice. I haven't looked back. My morning coffee is now gone, and I drink herbal teas (teasanes, sp?) instead. I usually go with rooibos (either a chai or tropical herb blend) or chamomile. It's actually helped calm me down, and gone are the attacks. Combined with job change, my sleep is getting better, and I no longer have those freaky dreams.
It's not the easiest thing to do, but I am glad I did it.
Now, as for giving up Bison Chocolate Stout, and perhaps Tilly's chocolate chip cookies ...;)
Cheers,
Lavabe
I am taking one for the team. There's a lovely cup of steaming fresh coffee next to me and I can't drink it. That's because it's your cup. :)
Your wish shall be granted if need be. I also have Redskins Mug in case the Duke mug is dirty.
but we are almost there. The late hours, EDT, are critical (2535miles and DA) to our success.
I've tried giving up coffee, obviously it didn't work. Honestly, I drink the one cup, sometimes two for that pick me up in the morning. How did you survive your insomnia without having that cup of coffee in the morning? That is a serious question, what did you do to survive?
Am going to the kitchen now to prepare the coffee for brewing tomorrow morning. I will not go down without a fight!!!!
I'm PW'ing like my friends devildeac, YmoBeThere, and Lavabe (I don't make the same mistake twice). Love you guys!!!
In Atlanta, there's a great tea shop called Teavana. The blends and varieties they have are fantastic. I rapidly replaced the smell of coffee with the smell of these teas. That helped. I was able to replace the taste with different tastes, including my now-favorite rooibos chai. Secondly, the side effects were so bad, that I really didn't want to go back to it. Thirdly, the music voice teacher at the school had been very insistant that to preserve our voices, we needed to rehydrate quite often, even more if we drank coffee. Having a cardiologist brother in-law was also probably pretty important, as he saw when I had a bad reaction to a Starbuck's drink. Finally, I just got it through my thick skull that I simply didn't have an option. It was not worth living through those attacks.
Call it being scared or simple will power, I don't know. Once I made the decision, I had no looking back.
I drank coffee ever since I was four, and I love southern tea. I just know now that these don't love me.
Cheers,
Lavabe
P.S. Now my biggest worry is waking up early and posting before my trivia neurons get firing. Jimmy Dean/Jerry Reed ... same guy, right?;)
Devildeac, did you realize that you're only 5 posts behind Billybreen in this thread? At your current rate you can pass him pretty soon!
You're never too late on the LTE.
So far we've got:
Me on the bass
Bostondevil on piano
DukieinKansas on the handbells
Lavabe on the reeds
DevilAlumna can play piano and sing, and a bit of the violin
YmoBeThere has no rhythm and has not mentioned singing abilities. So I'm thinking roadie.
Can you step in and play the tenor recorder? That sounds pretty awesome. You could also hook up on handbells, that might be sweet to have double the handbell.
Kinda crazy how the phrase, "gotta have more cowbell" is now in the cultural lexicon, isn't it? I LOVE it! :D
I'm working tonight, so I can carry this thread on for a bit longer -- I'll be in the office at least until midnight PDT.
Maybe one of those posts, I'll figure out how much ground we've made up on BB. Y'all have really picked up the posts in the past two days -- VERY impressive work. ;)
I'm part of a quartet that is going to lead music at a gathering in 2 weeks. As we were putting things away after practice, I discovered that we have a cowbell available in the closet behind the chancel area. I can't believe we haven't found a way to work it into the music. you can always use more cowbell.
Hey, off topic question for ya'll. :D
I've seen folk talk about the number of posts in a thread by a specific user but I cannot, for the life of me, find this statistic. Where are you getting these numbers?
It's a good thing I don't try to walk and chew gum at the same time.
You have set me off on my first attempt at PWing. I'm procrastinating on typing minutes from a finance meeting to try to get over 100 posts.
Have you looked into other sources of caffeine in your diet? I'm surprised at some of the things that have caffeine. Unfortunately, chocolate has a small amount of caffeine. I could never give that up.
I hope you can find another method of treatment so you can keep your coffee and chocolate.
Do you remember the scene at the beginning of The Jerk with Steve Martin's character trying to clap and stomp at the same time? I'm kind of like that.
I do chuckle every time the egg shaped shaker with the alien face on it is used in church. I have to resist the urge to remove the face. (I did, however, remove the embroidered Crown Royal from the purple bag holding the 30 pieces of silver during Lent.)
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAH, how could I forget the Jerk. That's such a great opening scene. I've actually tried to clap and stomp off rhythm, and can't. :(
Now, stop trying to avoid my earlier question and kindly tell me where you're finding the number of posts by each user. :D
Ahh, yeah, poor Navin. Listening to the blues always makes him sad. but then he hears that music he can dance to -- "If this is out there, think of what ELSE is out there!" And off he goes to find his special purpose. It's a lovely story, really.
Maybe you, DiK, just need to find your special purpose. (And when you do, see a doctor and get rid of it. :D)
What the... ?!
How do I have more posts in here than the king of PWS, DD? (Or his LTE-drafting compatriot, Fish?) Yoinks...
Sure. Batteries don't last forever. As they age, their cells lose their storage capacity. Less storage = faster discharge. You can also read about Voltage Depression on wikipedia.
It's midnightish and I'm crashing, passing the baton to the LTE'er. It was fun drafting wit DiK tonight but now I must take a nap.
I think we made it...FWIW one post in each hour for 24 hours. Obvious subject to instant replay.
