Cabal is the word I'm looking for...
Sigh, I stayed up until nearly midnight for that...
Attending NC Outdoor Economy Conference today in Asheville. Quite interesting. Just listened to an intriguing talk by the founder of Black Diamond, Peter Metcalf.
Still a bit peeved...but not taking it nearly as badly as a season ending loss for Duke basketball.
Getting logged out on mobile quite frequently. Slowing down my posting...
Flying solo with a full complement of 31 7th and 8th graders for an entire start-to-finish Friday is shaping up to be a good way to make the new tattoo at day's end relatively painless...
Weird, my finger is swollen...I recall hurting a few weeks ago but only a little tenderness for a couple days.
One of my husband's physics colleagues likes to have dinner parties at his house when visiting scientists come into town. Tuesday was one such night. I was pressed, as I always am, after dessert to "Just try this" as all the cognacs and liqueurs come out. Since my husband drove, for a change, I did try this. I had (all in shot glasses) a lovely single malt whiskey (and I'm not usually one for single malts but this one was special, wish I could remember the name of it), port, cognac, a light amber colored liqueur that I don't know what it was, all on top of the white wine I had with the dinner itself. I told the host it was more alcohol than I'd probably drunk in the rest of 2019 combined. He said, while giving me a big hug, that I had made him very happy.
This same colleague was the host of the infamous party where I got Norman Ramsey and Dudley Herschbach to discuss Shakespeare all night.
Nice bit of name dropping there BD.
Yes, I love name dropping people most of us have to google. ;-) It's a joke with my theater friends. Yeah? You worked at the Huntington with Nick Offerman? Well, I've had dinner with Wolfgang Ketterle.
Bobby De Niro once told me that dropping names was an American pastime.
My name inspired a song. The writer of it may deny it, but it is easy to see.
My face has launched a thousand ships.
Except for the Pasadena part, I resemble that song. No apology necessary but taters are gratefully eaten.
Young man at church (3 at the time) stopped at my office door to sing the song to me a few months ago. He didn't know that it was my middle name - just knew the first name was mine. He is such a cutie.
FWIW, my mom gets bothered when people spell her name with a y rather than an ie.
I used to say I didn't mind when people didn't spell my name right as it happened all the time. Then someone started spelling my first name wrong. Turns out, that really annoys me - especially as this person spelled it wrong replying to an email where I had spelled it correctly. Last name not so much.

Alas, the only song ever written about me, wasn't written about me.

True story. I met a guy at Duke in my freshman comp class. We never made it to anything more than "say hi on quad" type friends but we always spoke when we saw each other, except, he called me Julie. Others remarked on it. I always said, "He knows who I am, he's just got my name wrong." Finally, one day in the spring of senior year, I was chatting with a mutual friend on the quad and he walked up. Mutual friend said, "Bob, do you know Lisa?" He gave me quite a look and I got to reply, "I'm not Julie, my name is Lisa." For me, it was awesome. And then I told him what I'd told everybody else, you know who I am, you just have the name wrong.
Oh wait - there is a song about me. And tomorrow it will also be a true song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLuyHWP_wnM
Happy birthday, BD!
Happy Birthday!!!!!!
Happy birthday, BD!
Yes, and many more to our resident thespian!
Many thanks for the birthday wishes!
I ran the Reebok 10k for Women today (formerly the Tufts Health Plan 10k and before that the Bonne Bell 10k). It was my 13th in a row! Tonight - tapas with some girlfriends as the hubby is in Oregon.
Going off the rails on a crazy train...
You’re probably on the right train...one way ticket??
Anybody trying the 8 hour diet plan? The intermittent fasting where you only eat during that span, say 10-6, 11-7, etc.
I kind of like it, I guess. Five pounds down so far. I cheat with coffee in the morning but otherwise I'm doing ok.
Oh my. Bad things tend to come in threes. The third dropped today. Rough couple of weeks for some of my dearest friends.
Count your blessings folks!

Dido - White Flag
Because apparently, someone was waving one.
Ever have those days where you get oddly hungry in the middle of the morning? I'm having one of those days.
Thank you both. This is one of those high water passages when a person is forced to contemplate what's ahead. Nice rainy day to mull this all over.
Isn't this a funny, frustrating and overall fine place to gather support from all our LTE pals?
Rain at home, in my destination city and here at the Gateway to the West has me here 3 hours longer than expected.
Bought the most boring car on the planet last weekend. Any guesses?
Toyota oldster car, dual fuel model?
Ford something or other?

You got one of these too?
(Going to look at this car on Saturday.)
And I keep on repeating to myself 50 is the new 40...
My wife is about to turn 30. Is that the new 20?
“ ride boldly ride the shade replied....
If you seek for Eldorado”...😚😚😚😚😚
You rang? When the sacred Zima chant rises, I am tuned in to a hole/cheater stomping or a championship victory. I will allow it for significant birthdays.
I'm realizing how very significant all birthdays are as time takes it's toll. Although, that's a tad heavy for a beautiful Friday here at the beach.
Two of my dogs got stung by yellow jackets in the last few days, so late last night I paid the yellow jacket nest a little visit. R.I.P yellow jackets.

No beach here in this part of Jersey City.
I did have wine last night.
Raid Wasp and Hornet spray into their nest while they sleep. Also topped off with Spectricide Foaming Wasp and Hornet spray after the Raid can was depleted. The foaming kind seals the hole temporarily to keep any of the Ga Tech pests from escaping. I also put a temporary fence around the infested area to keep my dogs from getting into the poison.
Incidentally, this was at the base of an ornamental bush/tree. I fully expect it to suffer some consequences. When I used this combination on a large hornets nest in a hedge earlier this summer, the hedge died.
Richard was a Crazie favorite b-ball referee
Heading to Clemson next week for their game against BC. Any suggestions?
I will get to have dinner with the team on Wednesday - coaches are encouraged to bring their immediate family to that meal. "Immediate" family will be Mom, Dad, 2 aunts and an uncle for Nephew Alex.
We will get a tour of CASL. https://clemsontigers.com/clemson-applied-science-lab/
A deal has been reached. Now, where do I keep it?
I’m quite certain listening to the conversations of others in public venues will lower your IQ.
Home again...but have to travel again this week and the week after.
Does anyone have garage space for rent?
That's an ominous question Ymo.
I thought there had been a big effort earlier this year? Or was it more of a move this to there, dust off that, throw away this and voila, done.
Hmm, well that is much closer than Ottawa, Ontario...
How much garage space are we talking about? I can store a few boxes. A car? Not so much.
Can you do paint and body work while you are at it?
The effort is eternal. I am relentless. A force to be obeyed. Constant vigilance, continuous unannounced sweeps.
Special Ops weezie am I. Marie Kondo with a temper. I make stuff thank ME before I throw it out.
I was more concerned for your garage. I just might meander down there and make a visit...
Life is often a moving target.
Heading to Clemson in the morning. Looking forward to a tour of the CASL. But really looking forward to seeing Nephew Alex and Sister Sue and BiL Alan. And I guess I should look forward to a lot of rain - that is the prediction.
I am heading to Burlington, VT later this morning for a 2 day visit with my Catamounts. Mom and Dad flew up on Monday and I'm taking them to see the middle two grandsons in their current habitat.
And I am heading to Detroit tomorrow to see my nephew's last football game as a high school senior. Go Yellowjackets!
Should be a beautiful fall weekend up there and in Vermont.
Although Sunday I will be heading to Ford Field to watch the giant likely pound the Lion. Fine by me. Go Daniel Jones!
Poor, poor pitiful me. I’m only headed to Durham to see a basketball game. 😁
I’m just a spirit in the material world.
There just be another way
Have you come to a fork in the road?
Nashville for a second weekend in row.
Dreaming of the old days when I had free weekends.
Headed to AZ for a day and a half.
Booked a trip back to Savannah, as Ocracoke will not be prepared for visitors by our planned December trip.
Fun time at the dinner last night. Coach Swinney had nice things to say about Nephew Alex.
I live my life like a canary in a coal mine.
Fun time at the team dinner last night. Coach Swinney had nice things to say about Nephew Alex. Oops - bad connectivity so didn't see that my earlier post had gone through.
I have to give a speech next week, and need some good Halloween jokes. All ideas appreciated.
No Halloween jokes here.
But I am on a plane again.
Big ole' jet airliner
Late night owl flights huh?
The original is always better than the covers:

Pena was recording the song, and Steve Miller was recording next door. Steve heard the song and asked if he could record it too. Miller’s version came out first.
But I have always loved Pena’s version better. That same album had Jerry Garcia and others as guests.
Memory trigger
7 PM Central to 7 PM Arizona time...
That was a horrible throw. No other way to put it.
We The T? Or Wet Het?
Mired in mediocrity...
Given that performance, I may need to visit that beverage thread.
Eggplant vindaloo is just ratatouille with curry. Discuss.
A dish that sounds vaguely lilke the restroom?
Why am I posting at nearly 3 AM?
Made it back to our house about 1:30am. It was a long but really fun day at Clemson.
Back in Kansas. Supposed to get snow this week. I am not ready for this.
Who would have thought the number one album on iTunes would be a Christian album by Kanye West? Amazing.
I can hear banjos in the distance...
Wore a t-shirt at the game Saturday night. Back in Kansas now and looking at snow in the overnight forecast. Can I go back to SC?
Things that ultimately only matter to me and yet I want to share my happiness.
Tonight my adult soccer team won back to back championships, spring and fall 2019.
We were the third seed this tournament, and played for the championship tonight.
Down 0-1 at half, tied 1-1 in regulation.
No scoring in overtime.
Probably a good time to mention I play keeper for my team.
I stop the first PK, and we win 2-1 (5-4 on PKs).
Sweet to repeat! ⚽️⚽️
And fourth rec championship in five championship games ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A happy day 😀😎
Congrats, fuse!
Congratulations, fuse!
Who determines if something is a "cult" hit? I mean which cult are we speaking of here? And did they really come out and say yes this is a hit?
At least one Atlanta team has its [poop] together...feeling rather nervous (in that fun, good, I-love-my-team way) about tonight's Atlanta United playoff game, the Eastern Conference Final. If we win this evening, the Cup final will also be in Atlanta, which would be yet another hoot (and I would very much like our chances of repeating as league champs if we should earn the right to host the final).
The Atlanta United fan experience has been over-the-top, out-of-this-world, above and beyond scintillating from the very first moment.
If I didn’t watch it on the USA channel in the 80’s can it be a cult hit?
This was the best thing going on USA in the ‘80s.

Hello from 40,015 feet above central Illinois.
Guess I'm too far east to have noticed you waving at us.
I'll make bigger arm motions next time so it is more obvious.
I’m ready for my extra hour.
I'm ready for NYC, David Byrne's "American Utopia" ANNNNND Duke vs. kansas Tuesday night.
Woo-hoo, pizza and bagels and culture and hoops and never mind the calories for a few days!!!!
