@BostonDevil - only 300 to go!
Just so long as every time you've nibbled a biscuit in my presence for the past 20 years, you haven't said, "A moment on the lips..."
Don't play. Fortunately, my wife's tolerance for spending time with her parents caps out at a few days, then it's time to go. We see eye-to-eye on that issue.
Ink a bink a bottle of ink.
I spent the morning having parent-teacher conferences on Zoom with Arrow's teachers.
Ruth Buzzi is alive and tweeting and that makes me happy.
Sigh, if we only understood the view in the mirror.
All quiet on the hurricane front.
freshly ground lamb burgers on the grill, used the new electric grinder and a nice Costco wad of boneless leg o' lamb.
My cutout is now in place at Wallace Wade.
Well, this seems topical.

In case anyone wants to go treasure hunting.

Been a while since I drove down 95 and saw all the South of the Border signs. Somehow seems like there are more of them.
I'm not sure I got a yearbook.
I'm curious to know the rest of the story. Regarding college pranks, I know one of my years someone borrowed the SAE bench and took it to the peach water tower in Gaffney, SC. I vaguely recall something about South of the Border, but am drawing a blank right now.
I think we've settled on the year. ;-)
IIRC, basically the yearbook staff blew off actually creating a yearbook, realized they didn't have anywhere near enough pictures and drove down to SotB to take pictures of each other, or something like that. Or maybe it was nobody bothered to take any candid the whole year except for a the South of the Border party one of the frats had (SPEEs maybe?). BlueTeuf - do you remember better details?
Meanwhile, I can never run for public office because of the '84 Video Yearbook.
Well, that was less than optmal.
Lol, yes, I really need to work on that. I keep telling myself that, a bit like Staurt Smalley. One of these days I will have a typo free post.

Drizzly with a high in the low 70s. Don’t worry, back to 90s tomorrow. But today, slow cooker pot roast. Pan seared the roast, 9 hours to go...
Can one enjoy using a vacuum cleaner?
Hopefully my new Roku device gets here soon. Having to watch games on my tablet is not the preferred way to do this.
David Byrne’s American Utopia film by Spike Lee premiered tonight on HBO. Available on demand. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor.
Turn it up, move the furniture from the middle of the room, shake your blues out.
Trust me on this.
(I should say that I saw the play and not the movie yet — MrsPK is watching it while I watch Alabama-UGA — but the theatre show was amazing.)
Sorry if this is a repeat, but does anyone eat their PopTarts untoasted?
From scratch?

My new vacuum is significantly lighter than what it replaced so from that aspect it is a piece of cake to use. The downside is that on the more used portions of carpet, it doesn't do a very good job of lifting up the pile to at least make the carpet look clean and less worn. Most heavier vacuums I've owned do that part well. This new one does seem like it is doing a better job of picking stuff up. But the dust cup it captures the pet hair and dust in is significantly smaller than the last two vacuums I've owned.
Yet another covid cut. Those clippers were a bargain.
It looks like Epsilon will be here in a day or two. It will hit hurricane force right over Bermuda.
Wow, the interesting thing about social media is the ability to string info from across multiple platforms to get a more complete view of a person.
An additional criteria was that it needed to be capable of replacing the 3 current vacuums I have. One for the floor runners, another for the stairs, and the main one for the carpets that just died. The carpet pile issue is the downside to optimizing to that issue.
Lifetime is starting 24/7 holiday movies this Friday. On October 23. That's preposterous.
For the stores, they want to get their numbers in before shutdowns hit again.
Lifetime has never needed an excuse!

And on to TOH Season 34
Leaving a job this week after ten years as managing partner. Just had a surprisingly emotional going away party where many grown men cried talking about how I had affected them. One of the more intense experiences of my life.
Dagnabbit, yet another misspelling.
Apparently I missed some excitement from mattman in another thread. Hope he makes the best of his holiday.
I no longer have the patience to sit through an entire baseball game.
Last day of work! Woohoo!
Yay! Last day and had an altercation with a woman over her mask. She suggested I call the cops and I happily obliged. Last I saw her, she was screaming at the cops on the sidewalk about a lawsuit.
Last day ...
Sorry you had to put up with that on your last day. Glad the cops responded.
I don't understand why people won't comply - even if you think the whole thing is overblown, if a business has a sign requiring a mask, you need to comply. "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Mask, No Service." It's pretty simple - basic house rules.
New toaster versus old toaster
Attachment 11713
I think I have the toaster on the left.

Had a fun evening with youth and families playing Holy Golf. Heard on the 9th hole - "I need to break 20 to win" followed by "I need a 6". The breaking 20 happened. The 6 was never going to happen.
Until Klemnop keeps good on his promise to run naked down Franklin Street, I'm dubious of this whole streaker thing.
I have been warned. I will not:

Yew, yes, an entirely different issue. I was just in a holiday mood.
Needed to make the hole in 19 strokes or less. There was a definite slant to the hole and a 180 degree bend - plus you needed to go through 3 Bunnies. And the added bonus of playing the hole under the lights as darkness had definitely settled in.
If you know me on FB, there are some pictures of the event up but not of that hole. I'll have to share some additional pictures.
Thank you.
I will remain curious about your impressions of new vs. old in this arena.
Especially difficult for tall people because the clubs were 24 inches long - but you did have a putter and a wedge. Wedge was helpful with the hill in the middle of two holes. :D
We didn't want to make it too easy since the holes weren't very big. The group of high school boys determined that 15 strokes would be the max on a hole - then you pick up the ball.
My mom is still using the toaster my parents got as a wedding present, almost 59 years ago. Tiny, narrow slots. It does not work very consistently, but she hasn't quite given up on it. I, however, have gone through my adult life on a series of cheap, crappy toasters. And, well, they were cheap and crappy. A few years ago, I was buying some furniture from a couple who were moving back to Asia and getting rid of everything, including their Oster toaster. Convinced them to throw it in with everything else I was buying. Have been quite pleased with it, especially the FROZEN button for my waffles. Hope I haven't jinxed it.
NFL football, Presidential debate, or clean drains(the p trap). Those were my choices for this evening. My drains are quite clean and I'm pleased with my choice.
Ugh. I 95 at Dawn.
for a respite some time, try driving I-91 in Vermont from north of White River Junction up to Canada...the question you will ask is, why did they build this? (it doesn't go to any major city)...apparently it was one of several routes for Ike and the boys to leave town back when the Interstate system was being planned...you can drive for miles and often see only one or two other cars...
Zeta appears to be brewing in the Caribbean.
I've only done 91 from Brattleboro to 89. Although I've never questioned why they built it, I'd call driving on it a respite. I'd include 89 as well. I've driven the entirety of 89 from Concord, NH to the Canadian border.
As to "why did they build this" though, I might add I-189 in Burlington to the list, all 1 1/2 miles of it.
For doing our local business, I-189 actually has a purpose.
Yes, I-91 from Brattleboro to White River Junction is placid and lovely, very few cars...but if you continue north on I-91 to Canada you really may see no one at all, it's rather remarkable...most common use may be for motorheads to head out there at night to see how fast they can go..you really can drive there at night for an hour and not see another car...
Phew. Done with that drive. One massive diaper blow out but mostly okay. Fredericksburg to Baltimore never disappoints for congestion.
Nope, literal. We have a 9 month old and were finally able to introduce him to his only remaining great grandparent. Anyway, poo has to go somewhere and when a baby is strapped into the car seat, that somewhere is out the top back or the leg sides. My wife started making lots of panicked noises as it seeped out so I made an emergency stop at one of 95’s island rest stops and we took the baby out on to the grass for a wipe down and change. I’m sure it looked like we were performing Emergency surgery.
Then we all went into the rest stop (it was in MD) and got crab cakes.
No we didn’t.
Crab cakes at rest stops are disgusting and should be outlawed.
Betty, Duncan, and I have been friends for a long time. The Doughboy and I hang out. But I made a new friend today. I see a great friendship evolving between Domingo (Ghiradelli) and I.
What says the Drewsk?Quote:
Satellite, radar and surface data indicate that an area of low pressure located about 125 miles west-southwest of Grand Cayman Island continues to become better organized, and if current trends ccontinue, advisories will be initiated on a tropical depression this fternoon or evening.
Turned the heat on for the first time. Hope to turn it off again at least once more time but I think we've zig-zagged to mostly chilly from here on out.
Feet in sand.
The Drewsk has had a very busy week/weekend with his coursework and TA duties. He has informed me that he has not been able to monitor Zeta with his usual zeal. I have asked him to give me an update when/if he does have time.
6 hours out in the yard...
Here on Ocracoke (don't come here, you'll hate it and be bored! Don't even bother looking it up) it's mid-70s and sunny. Nice breeze.
"Feeeeeeeeelings..."
Is the Island Inn still functioning in Ocracoke?
No, used to be just the Island Inn:https://ocracokeobserver.com/2018/05...he-island-inn/
Ah so. Yes, that place seems to have been leveled by Dorian. It is completely gone now.
Had a bottle of wine with the woman who rents out the place where we stay. She regaled us with horror stories of riding out the storm and the aftermath that followed.
I felt like I had a rough last year, but it clearly pales in comparison to what folks here have been through.
