Though I will admit to certain stylistic limits. He may not be the best for a rendition of Frosty the Snowman. But then maybe...

Bing Crosby is Christmas.
Bob Dylan's Christmas album ("Christmas in the Heart") is a thing.
It took me years to find a recording of his duet with David Bowie. One of my favorites.
I've seen them in concert but haven't thought about a Christmas album by them - I must shop.
My favorite Christmas CD is Good News by Kathy Mattea. Not a single "traditional" carol on it. I confess to listening to it anytime of year. Unfortunately, it was stuck in the CD player of the car I traded in. I need to replace it.
Well, nothing like shooting first and getting details later.
Then again, nothing like sticking your hand into a jacket pocket and finding $23!
Preferably your own pocket, though.
We are rapidly approaching the 12th(!) anniversary of this thread.
My 2 oldest cats turned 12 a couple months ago.
No kitten sighting this morning. I’m starting to get worried.
About 2 months ago, mother cat and two nearly all white kittens took up residence in my yard. I've seen them nearly every day since. So, I started putting food out for them. Eventually, I will trap them and get them fixed. Well, that was the plan. I went to a class presented by the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition and discussed potentially trapping them next week.
I usually see them twice a day when I put food out, in the morning and around 7 PM at night. I did have a close call a month ago when they crawled up into the engine bay of my car. Most days I check before I leave if I have not already seen them in my back yard. I forgot to yesterday. I did not see any of the cats yesterday morning which is odd, but did see mama last night. It was cool and rainy and very windy the night before.
Both spotted this morning.

A few years ago, our adopted feral cat got on our roof. I broke out the ladder and climbed up to retrieve her, but couldn’t find her once I got up there. Looked down, and she was in the yard staring up at me with a “what-the-heck is he doing up there” look. She was probably wondering if she needed to come rescue me.
Elf is a horrible Christmas movie. Change my mind.
Never seen it...
Tell youse what though, Guy Pearce is starring in another remake of A Christmas Carol next week on FX (I think) and I am an unrepentant Christmas Carol fan. Love them all.
Last final exam of the semester has been completed.
One semester to go for this 10th year senior:rolleyes:
FYI I predicted months ago that Mmm Beer would overtake LTE by year's end.
Still very much in play.
Ocean’s 11(Clooney/Pitt verision) feels like a holiday film to me. Am O wrong? Similar to Die Hard being a. “Christmas” movie.
WHAT a beautiful morning!!
Alert the press, I'm in a great mood!
Well, that’s it. I’m going to take tomorrow off.
Only 5 workdays left this calendar year.
I'm positively staggering toward this semester's finish line.
I'm not ready for Christmas. I'm taking the afternoon off and will use part of the time to get my outside decorations up.
I’m wondering how those knitters are doing...
Circuit of the Americas tomorrow!
How can there be that many beers? Do they dedicate a page to every craft beer maker with a home kit in the basement?
Tomorrow was today...

Kittens are inhabiting my backyard.

Flooding rains down here yesterday, did not expect that.
I think it’s all blown through now.
Sunny and 78 here...
No news on my Christmas package is ____ news?
Or shoild I just kiss that sucker goodbye and reshop what I had already attempted to gift?
Who let the dogs out?!?!?
I am a fan of terriers though.
Surely, it is madness. But the joint is jumpin’, jumpin’...
I'm often reminded of thee immortal words of Dennis Hopper:
"Blank that blank, we're drinking PBR!"
True story: the script called for Frank to be using an oxygen tank. Hopper suggested they change it to nitrous oxide.
“Why?” asked the director. “Trust me!” Hopper responded.
And yes, he was really huffing N2O while filming.
(I saw that as a pre-release screening at the theatre in the back of the Bryan Center. Had strange dreams for a few days).
I am being reminded of the medicinal uses of a good hot tottie.
1. Put boiling water in a mug, let sit for a minute.
2. Pour out water, add 2oz bourbon (+/-) and some honey.
3. Sorta top off mug with boiling water. Stir.
4. Add a small lemon peel.
5. Enjoy!
Interesting to note that Mr. Lynch received an Honorary Oscar this year. I had not noticed that.
Lots of car stuff coming up. Core support for the '71 Trans Am, new top for the Buick amd patches for the floor pans.
I did put up a sign that I got from my car club Christmas party.
One of my neighbors went driving by today in a nice '66 blue Mustang convertible. First time I had seen the car. She waved.
I had a freshman poly sci class in there, too. Marty Nessley was in my class, and he sat up front. A big lecture hall/theatre, with a 6’11” dude in the first row. And he always had his hand up to answer the prof’s questions.
And most importantly . . . He never fouled.
(what was the name of the movie thing there? Sweetwater? I saw a preview of Killing Fields there and remember watching Eraserhead there as well).
Mechanical Engineering. I was a wanna be History major but those paying much of the bills weren’t having it.
I remember seeing Heavy Metal and Fritz the Cat at Freewater. There were a lot more films but...
I'm in a concerted effort to put trees back up.
Ymo Appleseed?
The Johnny Appleseed statue on East was the fifth hole (IIRC) on the frisbee golf course back in the day. I loved to put on a Walkman, grab a Dead bootleg cassette (especially Fox Theatre 5/19/77) and head out to conquest the course. Great way to see the quiet parts of East.
I did not know there was a Johnny Appleseed statue over there.
Just a reaction to them cutting down decades olds trees as they were preparing the sub-division I live in. The first couple sections were completely stripped save for a 150+ year old tree in my neighbors yard. They did a better job later on of retaining more of the trees. But still sad to see so many of them cut down.
I had many classes in Gross. Many barely squeaked by classes in Gross. Many, many. Walked in there to check out the old, groovy step down conversation pit lobby last year and wow, it still smells the same!
PS, gray, rainy-icy morning here in the DCMDVA area and beautiful! holes lost!
Hmm, I’ve been trying to figure out a peak for Springsteen. That to some extent discounts the more recent stuff. Some of which I like a lot. But the early stuff is magical.
For me it is Nebraska. But I am not a huge Bruce fan.
(and somewhat different because I would judge the Dead by live shows but Bruce by albums).
If Wikipedia is to be believed, I would specifically pin his peak on January 3, 1982:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebraska_(album)
Quote:
The demo recording sessions that produced the album "Nebraska" actually covered several days, but Jan. 3, 1982 is credited as the "legendary night when 15 tracks were recorded. They were "Starkweather" ("Nebraska"), "Atlantic City," "Mansion On The Hill," "Johnny 99," "Highway Patrolman," "State Trooper," "Used Cars," "Wanda" ("Open All Night"), "My Father's House," "Reason To Believe," "Born in the U.S.A.", "Downbound Train," "Child Bride," "Losin' Kind" and "Pink Cadillac," a total of 15 songs; 10 ended up on "Nebraska" and the demo for "Born in the U.S.A." would appear later on the Tracks compilation. The remaining four unreleased demos circulate among Springsteen fans. Two of these, "Downbound Train" (BITUSA) and "Pink Cadillac" (Tracks), were officially released in band format, leaving "Child Bride" and "Losin' Kind" as truly unreleased.
I would contend it happened a few years earlier:

So, in the final 8 seconds of the studio version of the song, there is a bit of an odd noise. Is that just the good ole' boys hootin' and a hollerin' as my grandfather used to say?
I didn't realize the song was recorded in Nashville in '57 by a 13 year old Brenda Lee.
We've been watching season 4 of Man In The High Castle. Some terrific acting on the teevee. Only two episodes left and I'm already bummed that it's ending.
Good thing the regular hoops season is about to kick into high gear.
Six inches of snow over the last two days. Was off yesterday, so didn't have to deal much with the roads. They were pretty spotless this morning. Tip of the cap to the road crews.
When it started, I liked the plot and the premise and I thought the performances had some bright spots. I think the show has really grown over the course of its run, both in scripting and in acting. I too will miss it. I've waited a while so I could savor it at the end of the semester, and am really enjoying the last lap.
In the same vein, check out 11.22.63 on Hulu if you haven't already seen it.
Celebrated my two year work anniversary last week.
I don't think I'm gonna make it to 3 (by choice).
I’m ready to relocate also.
In other news, I am using the Marvin Gaye tribute stamps for my Christmas cards.
I think that deserves a round of head-nodding appreciation.
Sill eating Christmas party leftovers.
California raisins? Rudolph?

Probably best that I don't get CBSSN.
Sigh, middle of the night and here I am.
So . . . should I give my wife the Peloton I ordered a month ago?
Only if she has a good selfie phone that catches all the facial nuance.
I'm extremely excited to see Cats after the terrible reviews for it.
"Cats is the worst thing to happen to cats since dogs"
Now I'm conflicted. I have no use whatsoever for cats, so if it's bad for cats, then I'm on board. But because I've never cared for cats, I've never had any interest in Cats, and while I might wish to revel in cats' misfortune, I'm not sure I want to also contribute to any measure of cultural ascendancy for cats by patronizing Cats.
I’ve seen Cats on 5 separate occasions. I don’t think there was a need for a movie.
Savannah sure is nice.
Go to The Pink House, given the chance. Epic dining experience.
Twice in the 80s, twice in the 90s, and once in the 00s.
First time was on Broadway, early in its run when we lived in Carlisle, PA. Also, saw Joesph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Both of those were with my church group.
The second time I saw it was around ‘87 in Los Angeles(resident cast) with my sister.
Time number #3 was while an undergrad. It was a touring cast in Raleigh, NC. I went with a woman who attended a university a few miles down the road. We went on a few more dates but alas it was not meant to be.
The fourth time was when I lived in Charlotte, NC. This time(‘95 or so) with a woman from Brazil. She and I dated for several years and the question of here or there kept on coming up.
The most recent time was in Nashville in the early aughts. My date that evening was from Nashville. The only job offer I had coming out of grad school was in Greensboro, the relationship was young and I did not have strong record of location stability(Charlotte, Nashville, headed to Greensboro).
So, that’s it. 5 times.
Yeah, that was too much. I guess that is what happens when I can’t sleep.
Good Lord. Baking-palooza here today.
I'll be waiting by my mailbox...
Glad to see no late night posting by me last night.
And the JotY award goes to...
I guess much like Star Wars, there are definitely generational aspects to SNL.
Eddie Murphy and Lizzo were brilliant last night.
The Buckwheat sketch was lost on my older son, who thought Mr Robinson’s Neighborhood was the funniest SNL sketch he’d ever seen.
Ad Astra
Just watched it on Blu-ray. Not sure what to think. Moved kinda slow.
Sometimes you just have to revive an old thread.
bah humbug
Your Disney stock selling off also?
Happy Festivus
I enjoyed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle probably more than I should have.
Long story, but just re-watched the last three episodes of Breaking Bad for like the fourth time. Genius.
Beast Mode!!!!
I do not believe in round crepes; mine are more free-form. I like to think of each one as unique art.
Been a couple months since I’ve had a beer.
Reminds me of a routine visit to a doctor once. During the screening, the nurse asked how much I drank. I told her 3 or 4 beers a month. When the doctor came in he asked if I needed help with my drinking problem. The nurse had typed into the computer that I had 3 or 4 beers THAT MORNING. (It was an 8AM appointment.)
iTunes is an epically, atrociously, impressively bad piece of software.
Woohoo, already started on my taxes!
I am both amazed and not the least bit surprised how close in number of total posts the Ymmmm, Beer thread is to a thread specifically dedicated to being the longest ever.
Can you filter a thread by who has posted the most on it? Not sure I know how to do that. Can we run a little filter and find out, say, the top 10 posters by volume of all time? That seems like good fodder for this thread.
Your signature line makes me laugh every time, by the way. Thanks for that.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
Tonight's feature film was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Followed by a dose of A Christmas Story.
At airport with family. Realize that I’m the sane one. Worry about how little that says.

Time was an issue this year, so I went with Plan S for my tree. Merry Christmas.
Not sure how to rotate the picture.
Snoopy came home!
Merry christmas ya filthy animals!!!
