Tell him Takin' Care of Business is a decade to twelve years too early and well just doesn't have what it takes to be in this contest.

Apparently I got a bit too much sun yesterday.
Finally! The one perfect spring day here in the mid-Atlantic.
Divine.
Next up 89 degrees, humid, storms, July.
More for my benefit; it's around the same timeframe, but I had a different theme in mind. "You're taking this very personal. Turk, this is business and this man is taking it very, very personal..."
We will get to see both of the "masculine children" this weekend, I think. Plan is to give them hugs and kisses, fill them full of multi-generational Easter cooking, send them off with a good haul of sweets (except of course the various York and Reese's products that I skim off the top - just enough to "wet my beak" if you will), and let them handle their end-of-semester business as they see fit without taking it "personal".
In a Piano Man kinda mood tonight.
Some jerk backed into my car in a parking lot and mooshed the rear passenger fender thing. Nearly 3k worth of damage.
And I say some jerk because I discovered it as I unloaded groceries at home. Hit and run.
Off to the underwriter nice and early this am to have them confirm the damage.
Phoooooooey.
Planting my herbs and veggies today. All new soil, new drainage rocks, all new plants. One more trip to Lowe’s and everything should be done in an hour. I am pooped.
Good gravy, what a crappy day here. I was out in the cold wind rain and wind every time I tried to get this project done.
But it’s done. No hail expected (fingers crossed).
Herbs: dill, chives, Italian parsley, rosemary, oregano, sage, lemon thyme, mint, sweet basil.
Veggies/fruit: heirloom zucchini (2), four types of tomatoes (Roma, red cherry, yellow cherry, beefsteak), three types of bell peppers (red, sweet yellow/orange hybrids, mildly hot bells), squash, okra.
Flowers/color tomorrow. Big fan of Scarlet Begonias for some reason.
That’s why you have to play hide the zucchini.
Um, that didn’t come out quite right . . . .
Our family did a cooking class in Rome last year, and one of the spring delicacies there is stuffed zucchini blossoms. So last year I planed zucchini but used most of the flowering buds for that. There is a difference between the male and female buds, and which you should use — will be Googling such things in about 45 days and hoping it does not put me on a weird NSA list.
The last time I planted, I was overrun with zucchini.
Happy Easter, if that's your bag. If not, then happy 4/21.
Without sarcasm, the trip to the insurance adjuster went well! He's a big hoo fan and was delighted to regale me with glorious, albeit reasonable gloating. Until he started in with the prospect of a repeat title next year in cville.
I allowed myself a stare and head shake.
Check in hand, I then sashayed to my soon to be repaired BLUDEVL plated car and waved goodbye.
The rodeo is a nearly 2 1/2 week event here in San Antonio. Since much of the bull riding and judging happens st the AT&T Center, the Spurs go on a 2+ week road trip every February. The next time I go, it will be my first rodeo. And my first live Spurs game.
I decided I deserved the very expensive shoes.
Just because I am me.

Sounds like mattman91 could have used some retail therapy also.
Power is out at the office. Looks like it is time to head out for the day
This thread slept in and was late for work...
I had my first encounter with Pho Bo last summer. Long time since I discovered a culinary dish that truly changed my world.
Yesterday was Field Day at my school. Ordinarily the event would (and darn well should) be held on a Friday, but due to multiple weather-related cancellations, Wednesday was our drop-dead, has to happen today date.
Today, the campus looks and feels like the "after" in a zombie film.
Always one to toot my own horn, and/or horns relating to my family, I now proudly point out that my daughter was Blue Team Captain in 8th grade. The Blue Team resoundingly won that year end Field Day competition along with the cumulative points for the academic year.
I wish I could claim her as a chip off this old block but she's actually very nice and sincere. But she still cannot hit a baseball with a bat so I've got that on her.
Baseball not a problem. Softballs I struggle with when it is slow pitch. I don't have the patience to wait for the ball to get there and so am often early with my swing.
I am not brave enough to recommend it, but let me just ask out of curiosity: anyone here watch LetterKenny on Hulu?
Should be nice and warm here this weekend with sunshine, may be a kayak sort of weekend. DaughterPK is home for a few days, so might as well hit the river.
Can I come? I want to become better with a kayak. When the family is at a place where kayaking is possible, I treat so that I can go. Niece Nicole and Brother-in-Law Alan are the champions at falling out.
eta - bucket list item is to kayak where I can see manatees. Need to find someone that will do that with me.
Of course you're invited. And IIRC, you have a nephew in Clemson? If so, there should be great kayaking opportunities up there if you visit.
I have never kayaked in the Keys, but have seen a lot of manatee in the inlets of Islamorada and the vicinity. I have never sea kayaked though.
Wiffle ball was fine, the pitching location was often much closer due to irregular field dimensions.
At around 1:00 today, I remarked to myself, "Wow, this day is going by pretty fast!"
9 hours later, I checked my watch and it was 1:15.
I am sure that Islamorada is not unique in the Keys, but it has canals for boats that empty out into the Gulf. That's where I saw the manatees. There were not really any waves, but I think you need a bigger kayak (i.e. a sea kayak) as opposed to my little 10' and 14' river kayaks.
Will leave a kayak for you tomorrow at the boar ramp, with the paddle. The cooler with your Bloody Mary thermos will be chilling in the bushes nearby. Just let me know if you want a slice of the spinach and cheese quiche or the prosciutto and cheese quiche, so I can throw that in the cooler as well.
Supposed to be 80 and sunny, so bring sun screen. I'll be headed up-stream so I can float more on the way back.
I guess that means more Bloody Mary imbibing for me. {drat the luck}
I've never tried this, but I do not think that the Etowah River Mine Tunnel is too far from Clemson (maybe 2 hours or so):

OF course, lots of great spots near Hartwell and along the Savannah too.
Tonight is senior prom for the youngest Turk, my baby Sunshine. (yikes!). Her brothers are coming home tonight after finals. The trees are exploding in green this past week; if you could stand still and watch for 15-30 minutes, I bet you'd actually be able to see them leaf out in real time.
As for kayaks, the Schuylkill River between Phoenixville and Valley Forge is surprisingly scenic and remarkably kayak-friendly, nary an abandoned factory or sunken coal barge in sight. Mrs. Turk likes to paddle upstream on a restored section of canal for a mile or two, port the kayak over to the river, and float back down. Makes a nice afternoon lap, with no pick-up / drop-off / second car logistics.
Cyclists can go from Reading (or farther points north, if they don't mind a bit of on-road cycling) to downtown Philly on the Schuylkill River Trail; with perhaps a stop at the Sly Fox brewery (https://www.slyfoxbeer.com/) for an "SRT Ale", where they donate a portion of the proceeds to the trail.

Has anyone been to the Ringing Rocks Park in Bucks County, PA? http://www.visitbuckscounty.com/list...ocks-park/453/
Very interesting to get out of the car and watch people start off down the trail carrying hammers. I didn't know where we were going so the hammers looked really odd.
I passed through both US cities that refer to themselves as the Queen City yesterday. I also happened to watch Bohemian Rhapsody while on the plane en route. Coincidence?
Yes, I’ve lived in both. And just realized I went through Atlanta not Charlotte. Umm, my mistake.
Headed to look at a car I bought a few years ago that I was storing in an acquaintances barn. He needs the space back so I’m moving it to a storage unit.
What a glorious weekend.
A formal protest was filed this morning.
And in other news, air conditioning season in South Central Texas is now upon us.
Kayaking Saturday and Sunday with DaughterPK, who is home for a few days before her final exams.
OPK is smiling, even though at the office and referring to himself in the third person.
Gonna be a warm week here, teetering on 90 every day with lows in the upper 60's. Pool probably swimmable in the next few days, if not already.
Not likely, unless we go to the lowlands. A stray gator (no relationship to our beloved fellow poster) makes it up this far some summers, but usually not. And they will not get up into the upstate area.
Lots of turtles, though, sunning themselves on the tree limbs sticking out of the water. So that may scratch your reptile itch. Saw some monsters out there this weekend. Also saw a few hawks, and some water birds although I get cranes, egrets, and related things mixed up so not sure exactly what they were. Long-necked things.
I saw four snakes on a short hike last week up near Hot Springs. I am sure there were numerous others I missed.
That made me think of

Is it bad that I never had even the slightest interest in watching Game of Thrones?
I am sure it is wonderful, and many have recommended it to me. But that train seems to have left the station and it all sounds like a dark ages soap opera.
Maybe I'll re-watch Breaking Bad.
(And no offense meant to those that love GoT -- it just never bit me I guess).
Of course it's not bad! Turk needs the same dispensation for checking out of the Star Wars franchise after they made those three movies that were "before" the original trilogy. They lost Turk for good after that; he's never been much of a space / sci-fi person.
"Dark ages soap opera" is a pretty good take. (but couldn't you say the same thing about "Princess Bride", only funnier?) GoT definitely has a medieval Renaissance-Faire-meets-Tolkien vibe to it.
If you need some beach reading, try the first book ("Game of Thrones") and see how it takes. Turk thought the books were pretty good and ended up reading all five, even though he's seen only a few episodes of the TV show.
^^^yeah, me neither.
But Les Miserables on Masterpiece Theater is simply wonderful. Developing a master-crush on Dominic West, I am.
Husband-of-weezie under yellow card warning to not ask clueless questions during the show.
One more chance before he's sent to the penalty box
While I'm at it, not a big fan of the Marvel or DC Comic movies or at least find it hard to get way worked up.
I know I'm shedding a lot of street cred here, but . . . gotta keep it real.
What the hell is Endgame?
Hahahaha thanks for the first good laugh of the day Ymo!
Seems to me it's a misapplication of a chess term. People are making it sound like this movie is the grand finale, all-in, winner-take-all showdown. I always thought the endgame was the most boring, mechanical part of chess. The fun part has already happened.
If a player has an advantage, even a single pawn, he/she protects it and trades all the other pieces off the board to keep the pawn and preserve the win. The player who is behind resists and stalls to the extent possible, hoping the other player makes a mistake and gives back the advantage. If the sides are even, both players usually play it safe to salvage a draw and try again next game.
Doesn't seem like a very exciting finish for an Avengers movie...
I watched 3 movies this weekend. Do I get a medal?
I tried 2 episodes of Breaking Bad and realized it was not for me. Then, at the end, because everyone talked about it so much, I watched the episode called "Ozymandias" and realized that's the only episode you ever need to watch. I got what the whole show was about.
Some critics argue that Ozymandias is really the natural end of the story, and that the few episodes that follow are generally post-script.
I don't adhere to that, but I understand it. Ozymandias is definitely the boiling point.
The series is worth watching for the acting and the storytelling IMO. Bryan Cranston is genius, and the whole cast really hits its stride in the third season on.
I need a boatload of good mojo. Please and thank you.

Since I have exposed my lack of modern street cred by showing my disinterest in Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory, let me go for the modern trifecta:
I’m just not that invested in the Marvel universe.
I'm having a rough spell. Luckily, I go into rehearsal for Much Ado About Nothing starting Tuesday. I can always count on some Shakespeare in the Park when things get rough.
Sorry BD. Hang in there!
I like to throw things out when I'm feeling challenged.
Tossed the husband's ancient 10 lb sleeping bag and an old suitcase into the landfill last week. That was enjoyable. The poor man has a fixation with saving old suitcase shoulder straps. Bye-bye.
Now I've discovered a box of moldy cassette tapes in the garage...
He and I are a match made in heaven, we are.
Great news! My elderly Mini Schnauzer is having a remarkable recovery and is feeling great after having surgery to remove his spleen on Friday. He had a tennis size tumor that was just about to rupture. It’s only been 2 days, and he is already feeling good enough to want to chase squirrels, birds, neighbors, and any other similarly dangerous and threatening critters that dare to parade outside our windows. Of course, he is restricted to house duty for several weeks, where he will be pampered and spoiled even more than he already was.
Mini Schnauzer 😀😀....my fav
We have 3 of them. All rescues. One by owner-surrender to us when a puppy, and 2 that we fostered and couldn’t part with (including the older one that just had surgery). The thing I love most about them is that they tend to still act like puppies, even when getting some years on them.
We fostered 6 others that ended up getting adopted. It broke our hearts to see them go, but we knew that they were going to good, carefully vetted homes. Which gave us a chance to foster the next abandoned or neglected fur ball ... at least until we maxed out by adopting our third one. (One of the fosters was scheduled to be put down at noon. I got a panic call from the rescue group about him that morning and he was 3 hours away. I arrived at 11:30 AM ... just in time.)
I’m not relating this looking for praise. Rather, to urge anyone who is capable to either foster or adopt a rescue. One of the most rewarding things I’ve experienced.
I have only ever had or fostered rescues. I have had experiences ranging from "good" to "phenomenonal." We currently have two rescues in our family, one of which is the most thankful and loyal pets I have ever met. When I adopted her from Mitchell County 18 months ago, she rode the two hours back with her head on my shoulder, and hasn't stopped being incredibly sweet since.
Honestly, I find mixed breed rescues to be so much more reliable and predictable than most purebreds I have met. Never regretted it for a moment.
I've only ever had cats after college. All from rescues, 2 are/were special needs.
I have become a huge fan of guinea pigs. Cookie, the one on the left, likes to sit in my lap while I sing her lullabies in the evenings. I don't think there are rescue guinea pigs - I bought these two at pet stores. I would, however, be happy to rescue some guinea pigs if necessary. (The just got their morning treat of baby carrots. Happy little girls.) In case you didn't know, guinea pigs purr.
Both of my babies are rescues.

Must be a slow work day MEN!
All up in my feelings today. It needs to be May 18th already.
What a ripoff!!!
I bought some of those spike footings that you strap to the bottom of your shoes to wear when mowing. They are supposed to help aerate your lawn. All they do is punch holes in the floorboard of my riding mower.

I'm in a great mood today!
I seem to have kicked up a bit of a fuss in the other room.
Turkey sausage is a good substitute for pork sausage.
Turkey bacon is a poor substitute for pork bacon.
Prove me wrong.
What if we decline to accept the challenge?
If you post, “Arguing with a brick accomplishes no meaningful result,” would that be an ad hominem?
Nope. Instead, I'll offer an amicus brief for your consideration.
Point the first: Against my better judgement, I sampled some turkey sausage as part of the best available options in a mediocre low-end Marriott / Starwood breakfast buffet. I was pleasantly surprised, and started my day off on the right foot. Also, some yinzers I know would make a motion to nominate venison sausage as an even better substitute.
Point the second: "Poor" is too polite; "unacceptable" is more accurate. Once upon a time, Mrs. Turk's mum, in well-intentioned concern for her grandchildren's health, unilaterally served up a heapin' helpin' of turkey bacon on a random Sunday long ago. The young Turks, in that precocious pre-school / early grade school age where a child can say absolutely anything with no filters (short of an f-bomb) and get away with it, instantly revolted.
"What's wrong with the bacon, Grandma?" "Nothing, sweetie. It's turkey bacon; just the same as regular bacon." "I don't think so, Grandma. It looks like fake bacon." "Yeah! It's not bacon, it's fakin' bacon!" "We'll call it 'fakin' for short!" Not even the dog would eat it.
Arguments accepted, motions granted.
One year at a state bar meeting for several hundred lawyers, the new bar president wanted to start a health initiative. So instead of the usual breakfast buffet spread, they only had turkey bacon as a meat option. The lawyers, in that precocious bellicose hung-over state where they think they can say absolutely anything with no filters (especially an f-bomb) and get away with it, instantly revolted.
The next morning, we had real bacon out there and the turkey bacon was heard of no more.
(Venison everything is great, but I don't hunt so I have to depend on the kindness of others. Venison loin is one of the tastiest things I have ever had).
Alas, the arguments and motions fell on Grandma Turk's deaf ears. To this day, she will still fry up "fakin" whenever we're over there on weekend mornings; she just doesn't need to make very much of it, unless she tries to bury it in some sort of egg / cheese / protein "breakfast casserole."
I didn't realize she was that stubborn, nor did I realize that she passed on that stubbornness gene to her daughter until it was too late. Otherwise, I would have negotiated a completely different pre-nup, and "fakin" would be specifically listed in the items qualifying as grounds for immediate divorce.
Beef bacon is something amazing I stumbled upon in the last few months at a local butcher shop.
I reqd somewhere recently that craft beer sales have been falling.
I got into a fight with the pull-down stairs. I didn’t win.
Yikes. Hope you’re ok.

Oh, I'm fine. More of a bruised ego and a cut on my hand. My thumb got pinched in the folding star part causing me to let go. I took an upper cut. Cut in my mouth but it isn't swelling or anything like that.
Happy Mother’s Day to the ladies of the thread!
Aren't you nice?!
Thank you OPK!
