It's a girl!
Fantastic! When is she due?
Congrats again, mattman!
Yay! Isn't that wonderful!
"Zion weezie mattman19"...see that? I switched the 91 and 19...clever ain't I?
Ziona? I had to pay $10 to watch the end of that game but it was money well spent.
That deserves a video link.

I remember watching this video when it first came out on MTV and when MTV was very young. What a great time that was.
Should have clarified, I'm going to be an uncle. Her dad is a UNC fan, but she will be a Blue Devil!

Fun fact I just learned, Mojo Nixon was born in Chapel Hell, NC...
Is it me or is this year's NCAA Tournament discussion a tad more annoying than in years past?
Yes, thanks, I already know that I am annoying...please stick to answering the question.
I'm considering starting a thread about what we as a community feel is appropriate in game threads and in-game chat.
Talk me out of it, please.
I rarely join chat, and when I do it is for short bits. Mainly because I find it distracting.
To what I assume triggered you and your plea: I find overly negative and critical people very tiresome. Every missed shot is not a catastrophe, every foul against us is not wrong, every slump does not require an immediate benching. There is no conspiracy against us. Berating a player who is giving a hell of a lot of energy for my university has it backwards IMHO. That player deserves respect, even if I am frustrated that she or he struggles. That should be when I support that player the most, not when I should abandon her or him.
My next sermon will be at sunrise, get there early if you want the back few pews.
God bless us everone. I am steeled for the flames.
Rats! I couldn't spork you for your thoughtful post.
I stay away from chat and the in-game thread because it distracts me from the game. I will check in if there was, in my opinion, a bad call to see if I'm alone in that thought but that is about it.
What if your coach bagels the conference schedule including the tournament? Can you disparage them? Goes by the initials CBD. (Coach...)
To remoulade or not to remoulade, that is the question.
In a recap of this morning's state of the mood, weezie is irritated going out the door.
Just a warning to anybody talking on their phones and driving this morning in front of my car. Serious horn blowing about to commence.

Was able to sneak out on a school night to see Todd Snider last week. I remember when people used to bring pencil and paper to a show to write down the set list as the show went along. Now you can practically see the whole thing online the next day. What a country! Found this clip - nice video, whoever took this was maybe about 10 feet in front of where I was standing. 23 East Cabaret / Brownie's / Ardmore Music Hall has been one of the mainstays of the Philly area live music scene (if you don't mind the obligatory name and ownership changes that come with the territory...)

But wait, there's more - 15 minutes of encore! (this dude is even closer than the other guy)
Like a Force of Nature, Iron Mike's Main Man's Last Request, The Blues on Banjo, Freebird (yeah, that one, no kidding)

Snider has been on my list for a while; his tunes kept popping up in a couple different feeds I like. I spent more time than I should have noodling around youtube looking at clips.
Selected Snider comments from the show:
"I was lucky enough to write some songs with Loretta Lynn, and we recorded them at Johnny Cash's studio at his house. That's some pretty big name dropping, huh? Robert DeNiro once told me, 'Two's OK, three is too many."
"Yeah, my new record is called the Cash Cabin Sessions. I hate going to shows and hearing people play their new stuff. Nobody came here for that [crap]..."
Hah.
Well, back home and chilling. Made it through a productive day without leaning on the horn during transit. All good, no need to post bail.
Put me down for John Prine’s ‘Illegal Smile’...

To tie a bow on things, Todd Snider was on John Prine’s “Oh Boy!” label for a bit. They are kindred spirits and worked together (add Jason Isbell to that mix as well).

Years that is...
I usually take a four day weekend this time of year as my version of a religious holiday to celebrate the sport of basketball. Circumstances have dictated otherwise this year, and it sucks!
It's on my bucket list to take the entire month of March off one of these years. I would divide my time between hoops and spring training. I have never been to a spring training game.
I'll try that on my son. It's his birthday tomorrow. He weighed 10.5 lbs at birth.
He owes me.
Big time.
It is rarely good to be posting at 2 AM.
I'll gladly stay up ALL NIGHT LONG if there is something wonderful to post about early April 9, 2019.
BTW, I'm doing that Shakespeare in the Park thing again this summer. This year's offering is Much Ado About Nothing. I'm producing and playing Don Pedro (the Denzel Washington part). The director is going for '30s screwball comedy in tone and wants to costume me as a Marlene Dietrich type.
My reply to a ‘dore alum posting at another site and using the screen name, siddfynch:
Thankfully you are a figment of George Plimpton’s imagination.
Too harsh?
Haha, well, ya never know.
It made me laugh though.
Mrs. Turk is a member of the "Tough Mama" club too. Here's how our crew arrived in the world:
#1 - 9 lb 5 oz. (meh. but no anesthesia - we got to the hospital too late, she was afraid of being sent home for "false contractions")
#2 and #3 - 8.0 and 8.1 fraternal twins, via the traditional exit. "Sixteen pounds of baby!!" That tends to get people's attention. The nurse had 20+ years at the hospital, and she couldn't remember any twins that were bigger. (Mrs. Turk's reaction after the epidural kicked in: "Wow, this is really easy!")
#4 - 10.15 - so close to that 11 lb. mark. Someone should have put their thumb on the scale...
^^^ Holy moly! She wins!
indeed.
I remember the story my grandmother told about when my uncle came out of delivery. "Boy or Girl?" she asked. "Both..."
Surprise twins! (My aunt's fourth pregnancy, she got larger each one, healthy for all, and ultrasound was just for problematic pregnancies then.)
Fourth and fifth kid! More cousins!

Thought for my day (besides Denzel in leather pants): SMILE! It's not perfect but it's pretty darned great!
Set the controls for

Considering forming an exploratory committee for a presidential campaign.
Any volunteers?
What’s the compensation like?
If Roy can trade unused timeouts for cheeseburgers can I trade in all the naps I refused to take as a child in for something useful...like some time for naps now?
I hope you have given thought to the "peanuts versus pretzels" debate roiling the midlands. I know it is controversial and may be too PPB for this board, but its a big decision to make.
I've thrown back a few mixed drinks in my day and don't driscriminate. Alcohol plus fruity juice works for me. When is the first meeeting, ummm, mixer?
Actually skipped watching the game last night to go see a concert with my son. Got home after a crazy fun show, saw that a Duke won and Carolina lost.
I love this Countrt.
Starting the replay of our game now . . . .
(And Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets is beyond fun if that is in your wheelhouse).
Not in reference to anyone here or any posts here, please believe me, but WOWIE there are some decorated CAPTAIN OBVIOUSes entrenched next door.
I've been accused of having a firm grasp on the obvious on more than a few occasions.
Made quiche to use up eggs, but don’t think I used enough cheese. Kinda more eggy than cheeseggy.

Currently Found Off The Road Dead on the side of a mountain. Horrible day...glad I have AAA:rolleyes:
SSSSIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiggghhhhhh :(
Well, that was a pretty terrible night of tossing and turning and staring at the ceiling.
Ridiculous, sad, but true.
I need a vacation. I found myself daydreaming in a checkout line and then tearing up a bit remembering RJ consoling Tre in the locker room last night.
I'm nuts aren't I?
Harder on them? I had not one, but two people say to me, "Sorry, your team lost last night." I tried to brush it off with a simple, "It happens", but I was just dying inside. The quivering mass of jelly in semi-human form under my desk may or may not have been me(or my running stuff). I was so distraught, I had to sneak out early down the back stairwell to freedom. Please ignore the fact that it was a bright, sunny day with temps around 70. If that ain't tough living, I don't know what is.
Storm clouds in weezie-land. My brother is a spartan. He did not show proper grace after their squeaky victory.
It took a whole boatload of self-control for me to not bring up any references to the abhorrent issues still swirling around that entire cow college.
But, I've got a good feeling that he may be crying next. And then I will be the soul of truly fake sympathy.
I picked the wrong time to stop drinking...
I hear it is Devildeac to VT and willing to flap like a bird. But it appears he is getting a good asking price.
Slightly less emphatic sigghhhhhh today.
But NOW what am I going to do? :(
Besides all the boring "life" stuff and the "enjoying friends and family" baloney. I want my Duke Basketball! I want it back!
Not sure which is worse -- that I have never heard of Nipsey Hussle, or that his fans have never heard of Nipsey Russell.
We got word the other day that one of the young Turks was feeling lowdown and bad, so he pops into the urgent care place, who ships him right over to the ER for a diagnosis of mono. He gets sent home with instructions of rest, tylenol, and fluids. This is our first exposure in the immediate family, so no one knows what to expect. I know the boy is in bad shape because I volunteered Mrs. Turk to whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies and fedex a shoebox-full over to him (after I perform the obligatory quality control checks, of course), and he replied not to bother because he didn't feel like eating anything.
Interwebz says nothing to do except take it easy and ride it out, but that 2 to 4 week estimated recovery is a big wide window of time and it makes me nervous. He's a handsome sturdy strapping athletic lad, so I would expect him to bounce back sooner than most, but you always hear these crazy outlier stories...
I hope young Turk recovers sooner than expected.
Had mono my freshman year at Duke. It took me 6 months to recover. It's really hard with strapping youths, but the key is NOT to push it. He won't feel well for a long while. He will probably feel better after 2-4 weeks, but he should take it easy for at least another month and listen to his body. If he's getting tired easy, rest. Pushing it will not help and might make it worse. Easier said than done but still true.
Hoping young Turk recovers quickly.
A friend's adult son was sick as a dog over Christmas holiday. She asked my internist husband to check him out on Christmas Eve as a favor and the young lawyer turned out to have raging mono. When he returned to NY his big time specialist doctor was impressed that a country bumpkin Dx was correct. Sheesh.
Anyway, it takes a long time and young Turk does need to eat well and try and take naps when he can. He can't get discouraged since, yes, it can take 6-12 months to feel normal.
Best wishes to the youngster!
Found out Mrs. Turk's sister had mono in college. "How long did it take before you were back to normal?" "About a decade or so." "I didn't need to hear that..."
I think it was Joey Beard. But then multiple players may have had it.

Shav was smoochin!
Also Dunleavy - that was while I was there...

So, were there ever any mono vigils? Where would they rank relative to knee and foot?
By happenstance, we now have toilet paper whose perforations are in waves instead of straight across. As a result, the sheets separate effortlessly and correctly. I truly did not know such ecstasy and bliss was knowable in this plane of consciousness. It has turned my whole world around.
For a second there, I thought we were talking Kmart.
Well, I put it back out there. I was winning before Clemson beat 'bama and crushed them when the Tigers rolled the Tide.
Based on the threads on the EK board, it's going to be a long off season.
I used to be able to focus on baseball, but after Boston(won WS while I was there) amd Cincy(made playoffs while I was there) there is no real diversion here in San Antonio. I guess I should just go mow the lawn.
Plantar Fasciitis?
Great! My alarm clock decided that this weekend was the proper weekend to automatically go to daylight savings time. So I lost an hours sleep for the second time.
I think they should do away with daylight savings time. It doesn't save anything. Although, I worked with someone in high school who thought it gave us an extra hour of sunlight. Tried to convince her that the hours just shifted and we didn't get a whole extra hour of sunlight. Her name was Desiree - I wonder what happened to her?
She toured the country singing about being foolish?

Hmmm.
What the heck are you all up to in here?!
October 2020 - I need to head to Broadway. Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are going to be in Music Man! Trip plans will be made.
I'm pretty sure Sutton Foster was in a Broadway at Duke production years ago. Something about the Civil War maybe? Not Little Women but something or other.
I don't know if they have set a time limit on how long they will be in it. Previews are supposed to start 9/9/20 and opening night is 10/22/20. Specific theater hasn't been named but it will be a Schubert venue.
Hugh Jackman was actually in The Music Man in high school. He was traveling salesman #2 on the train.
I could never make it through my children attempting artistic performances without either laughing or holding my breath. Ballet nearly caused me to faint several times from both laughing and holding my breath.
The daughter's ballet studio asked my son to be a good sport and participate as an extra in The Nutcracker. At 6'5" he was, shall we say, not a natural at graceful gestures. After one rehearsal, during which I watched with hands over eyes, it was pleasantly agreed that perhaps he could better serve as an audience member. I was exhausted from laughing silently.
Worst parent ever.
Ahhh, lots of rational and fresh discussion happening on the main board it seems.
‘99 or ‘86 I get, but what happened in ‘04?
(I know, but had to think about it. Which means it didn’t register emotionally the same way the other two losses did.)
I’m struggling to come up with a better album from the mid 80s than Peter Gabriel’s So. Particularly, the four songs: Red Rain, Don’t Give Up, In Your Eyes and Sledgehammer.
The clouds are slowly lifting...
Graceland was also excellent for that time. Really do think for that 2-3 year time frame of 85-87 those are the Top 3. That time frame conveniently leaves out Prince's Purple Rain.
As is common with the ADD of the LTE, it appears we've moved on to horror films of the late 70s early 80s. I'll vote Phantasm just because of the 'cuda.
If anyone is ever looking for lunch in Asheville, the Mela Indian lunch buffet is top tier.
Me three for kimchi!
There's a new ramen joint opening about 1/4 mile from my work. I am excited.
The OTB has been has been busy today.
I think I'm quoting myself but, "Wow. Just wow."
So many tools and such a small tool box.
And I'm not referring to you Ymo, you are a gentleman!
I have not been to the sports page since the game, other than to congratulate out UVA friends.
Guessing that was a wise choice.
Nothing to report other than nice weather.
Quiet morning for me so far, family sleeping in and so a good time to stroll the streets of Montmartre and experience the jolt that is French coffee.
I'm going with Joshua Tree: Where the Streets Have No Name, Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, With or Without You, Running to Stand Still, In God's Country is a pretty strong lineup. (even if the titles are a bit wordy...)
Would have to throw in a vote for Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms. I imagine the R.E.M. people might have an idea or two.
And in the near-miss "Purple Rain" category, I'll respectfully submit "Born in the USA".
P.S. In less important news, word is my young Turk is back in class and trying to resist the urge to go right back to full-speed. So far so good, should be able to take care of his business with end of semester, finals, etc.
