So the moon is going to hit my correctly protected eye like a big pizza pie, do I have that right?
That's Amore - Dean Martin
Staring at the Sun - U2
Walking on the Moon - The Police
I'm adding those to my eclipse playlist which only had the aforementioned Bonnie Tyler.
Walking on the sun -- Smashmouth
Added it.
Eclipse - Pink Floyd
Walking in Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves
Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden (feat. the recently passed Chris Cornell)
Blinded by the light -- Manfred Mann
Dancing in the Dark? Springsteen
Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Eclipse has occurred. It seems the sky turtle did not decide to bite the earth after swallowing the sun. This time.
Good Day Sunshine, Here Comes the Sun -- The Beatles
T frankly reminded me of Dark Star by the Grateful Dead. Although those last for twenty minutes.
The Eclipse play list must have been a thing because I saw a couple of friends posting about it on FB. I, of course, proceeded to steal the idea.
Not already mentioned, unless I spazzed out on a post or two:
No Sunlight - Death Cab for Cutie
Moon Shadow - Cat Stevens
Planet Claire - The B52s (not specifically about the subject at hand, I just feel like it belongs)
On the Dark Side - Eddie and the Cruisers
Total Eclipse - Alan Parsons' Project
Paint it Black - The Rolling Stones
You're So Vain - Carly Simon (you know he went down to Nova Scotia to see a total eclipse of the sun)
I have decided to spend April 8, 2024 in the path of totality. That one will pass through Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. I'm thinking Burlington, Vermont. Anybody else want to come? Is it too early to make hotel reservations?
I'm wondering if I can make it that long in one location. The odds are against it.
Looks like I'm buying a new dryer.
RIP
:(
Batten down the hatches, it may get windy here.
Gorgeous here in Asheville today. Most comfortable afternoon we have had in months.
Our weather next Tuesday and Wednesday should be similarly gorgeous.
Feels like the eclipse was the informal end of summer.
Much love for any DBR folk on the Texas coastline.
No Twinkies? It's over!
Eclipse is over so not as much need for them now. I tried making them but, due to impatience, messed up the chocolate coating twice and stopped. The cookie and filling turned out ok but didn't get them coated. I went with a filling that wasn't as marshmallow-ie as the original.
But thanks for the offer. Still willing to send Twinkies or Little Debbie as needed.
Good luck to all our TX pals. Here's to hoping your drainfields, gutters and roofs keep you dry and safe!
This is getting serious...
I really should have stocked up on Pop Tarts.
I broke down at work earlier this year and had some. They sell them in two packs at some of the registers in the cafeteria. Of course, strawberry frosted.
My new dishwasher just showed up after three weeks of washing everything by hand. That calls for a celebratory beer!
It was only three weeks. Let's not go crazy.
Good call OPK. Need to keep it real up in the field.
Rain.
Farewell to the old crappy holly tree in the front field. Cut that sucker down like it was a fan of third rate school in chapel hill. Stump ground and ready for a new, magnificent red maple.
Yikes, when did planting a tree become an exercise in wishful, totally unrealistic hopeful thinking.
Yep, the dryer is dead.
RIP ? - 2017
In other news, some wanker parked in my spot at my condo.
IMHO, having purchased a dryer recently, any dryer with a digital display and motherboard full of widgets and doohickeys is cool, but extremely expensive to repair when/if the time comes.
Sometimes cheap and simple is the way to go for long term happiness.
I like having a dryer I can fix myself.
I remember playing a game years ago on the Apple IIe where you were building cities, etc. in the US. At some point, hurricane season would kick up and occasionally they would destroy one of your cities with distinctive electronic thud. I can't remember the name of the game but with Irma next up, that game experience is flooding back to me.
Wedding out of town this weekend. Oysters on the menu! :)
We just had a washing machine die a couple months back. (Kenmore, bought it when we moved into the Neighborhood of Make-Believe 20+ years ago). Nothing digital on it at all, just four selector dials for wash type, rinse type, water temp, and cycle timer. It was idiot proof and I think all we ever had to replace was the drive belt once.
Well, they don't make them like that any more. We ended up with some type of Samsung with an LED display and more push buttons than a Boeing cockpit, most of which have labels that don't make any sense. Maybe I'll get used to it but I am not optimistic.
Anyone else severely inconvenienced by Google Sheets being down for several hours this morning?
Yes, understood. I was being facetious about the 99.9% uptime. The only time that matters is when you need to use it. They can be down up to 9 hours during the year and still claim a 99.9% uptime. If those 9 hours are when you need to do payroll the uptime claim is meaningless to you.
I used to manage a 24/7 manufacturing line. Every minute not running was money lost. Invariably, the times we were down to fix equipment usually coincided with a customer calling in a rush order.
Every time I shave my beard I instantly regret it.
On a brighter note, new dryer should be in tomorrow. Went with the Maytag because I trust the opinion of the DBR.
Had to put my kitty down this morning. RIP Giblet. 2003-2017.
It is the crappy part of having pets. There are certainly far more important things happening in the world today, but it sucks.
It begins to concern me that basketball season will neeeeever begin. Always this way in September for me...
Most over used metaphor in sports right now? Holding up 4 fingers at the start of the 4th quarter. If both teams are doing it, what is the point?
Started the cabbage soup diet/cleanse today. The habanero Rotel may have been a bit too much.
^^^yikes!!!^^^
Down five pounds in two days. 5 days to go.
A nice mid rare burger with gouda sounds good.
I am bummed by the whole "ground meat must be at least 160" thing.
Is that true if I grind my own?
RIP to both kitties.
Sucks losing pets.
down 8.5 pounds.
Interesting to see that the Equifax thread has gone on so long.
It is a short term diet that is centered around cabbage soup. The goal is to do it for a week then immediately go on a healthier, well balanced diet. I'm cutting out the soda, junk food, fried food, and red meat - not entirely, but drastically reducing my consumption. Still saving room/calories for ymm, beer (obviously) but drinking in more moderation. That will be the hardest part. Not that I am an alcoholic, but you know how I am about my craft beer  Speaking of, we still need to grab a pint soon!
I had a short term diet this weekend that consisted of only Twinkies.
It lasted about 45 seconds. No significant changes in weight were noted.
damned smoke detector, I know I can't cook! You don't have to be an I'm a real wanker for saying this.I'm a real wanker for saying this.I'm a real wanker for saying this. about it and tell the entire neighborhood.
Geez matty, did you burn the cabbage soup?
Cross post... Three weeks from now I am packing for 11 nights on Ocracoke!
I'm leaving for the beach this Sunday.
Hope you all have great beach trips!
POLDARK is back tonight!!!!! Yippeeeeee!!!!!
Looks like we're getting a puggle

A puppy, a diet and...what's next young matty?
Raced in a 5k last night in preparation for the half-marathon I'm training for. First time I've raced in 5 years or so. Not nearly as easy as it used to be! Free beer afterwards though...
I'm "running" in my 11th straight Tufts Health Plan 10k on Monday. I put the running in quotes because, alas, I have not completely healed from the stress fracture I got running the Boston Marathon back in April so I'll be with the walkers this year. I really do need to hang up my marathon shoes because 6 months away from running is no fun.
I'm 29 cities and towns into my self-described Massachusetts 5k Challenge. I intend to eventually run a 5k (or longer) in every city and town in Massachusetts. Hoping to do the Andover Feaster Five this Thanksgiving. I should be healed by then.
How many towns and cities are there in Massachusetts?
My brother (Marine), cousin (Airman), and his sister that goes to school in North Dakota surprised me tonight for a late birthday surprise.
It's gonna be a great night!
That Ymmm, beer! thread is getting long...
When do you use whomever?
I thought that was a song...
Huuuuge weekend ahead: husband-of-weezie is heading out of town to visit his mother and I am girding to enter the garage armed with broom, shovel and the help of a local young man who is going to help me clear the chaos.
Yes, husband knows this is happening and he finally accepted that the governor is not calling to stay the execution.
But first, today I intend to get a few new cashmere sweaters. Great sales this time of year!
When you're done with YOUR garage, can you please come over to my house. We have years worth of junk and stuff in our garage that needs to be cleaned out. And we also have a large barn that could use a good cleaning too.
Love cashmere....hope you find some good sales!
New Iupgrade to 11.0.3 has totally blown up my iPad. Can’t find jack. At a loss.
Head on vacation to Ocracoke in 36 hours. My posting frequency will decrease dramatically. Counting on you guys and gals to pick up the slack.
Two months from today is the 10 year anniversary of the LTE.
Shall we celebrate?
I try my best to not drink coffee, but these morning running sessions are kicking my butt. Just two more weeks. Just two more weeks. :)
I think I may be too old for that. I'm not the PW I used to be.
Is there a thread for pet peeves? I'm sure I'd be on that list for others as would the LTE.
Sorry DinK, as always, my opinion is freely and widely voiced. I might be able to keep my initial reactions to myself but eventually, the whining would begin. I'd do my level best to keep the muttered blasphemies to a minimum though, out of respect for the quality of the grape beverage.
The garage is finished. Four dump runs plus one run to the burn pile in the back field. husband-of-weezie is en route home. If I'm not heard from within 36 hours, alert the local authorities.
Direct them to dig under that burn pile.
Good morning! Let the games begin!
Day three of beach vacation
Always great to start the day with a morning guffaw. "Justice For Janet" Jackson campaign to have her appear alongside J Timbles at the SB as a gesture of forgiveness, was just such a chuckle on this beautiful morning in Virginia. People are endlessly surprising.
In other news, I'm calling the SPCA to donate the old truck to their 'cash for metal' program.
RIP Robert Guillaume. An actor, singer, and gentleman on TV and Broadway.
So - second suggestion for celebrating the 10th anniversary - let's get to 20,000 posts by that date. I think we can!
on another thread ("temporarily locked" and may be deleted), BostonDevil explained her view of the UNC fiasco's aftermath:
Just wanted to give kudos to this, since the thread is locked and may get deleted. I don't plan on watching any of their games, including Duke-UNC.Quote:
Echoing the sentiments of many on this board, but the cheating scandal killed the rivalry for me. Sure I want Duke to beat UNC when they play, but I won't be able to watch. As a North Carolina native, I have always been proud that the flagship public university in my home state had such a great academic reputation even if I did hate their basketball team. That pride is gone and it's never coming back. (I'm still proud of North Carolina State University.)
Here's another result of the scandal for this basketball fan. During my growing up years, I could name the starting 5 of UNC almost as easily as the starting 5 of Duke. Knowing the players was required and I paid attention to UNC's players. I can't anymore. I don't know who is on the team and more importantly, I don't care. I really don't. I cannot at this moment name a single player on UNC's team. I doubt I'll be able to at the end of the season either.
Anyway, sorry for being on-topic on the off-topic board but this gem could not go unrecognized.
Sure we can! Who wants to hear more about how I terrorize my husband over his collection of worthless stuff?! Anybody need several miles of worn out speaker wire, old tv cables, perhaps a few old satellite/cable boxes? Well too bad, cuz they is gone.
That's the spirit!
Not to get controversial or into PPB territory, but — toilet paper roll. Over, or under?
I thought the correct answer was both.
OVER!!! And seat down! And how's about you clean up in there while you're at it? Wash the sink, floor, clean the mirror. Put out fresh towels.
Sheesh!
Is this where I can go to vent my disgust at people engaging in conversation with The Gluten Troll and his brethren on the board?
Major bummer on our Ocracoke beach trip. Had to put our sweet beagle down. Sadness abounds.
I know much more important things happen in the world. But not in my world today.
Yippee! Cold, windy, damp Monday. I-66, my fav parking lot/major highway artery, solid as a rock.
Can't WAIT to get going today!!! :) I might even prolong the fun and stop at Wegman's on the way home. What a list I have!!!!
