Any of our DCMDVA folks: the National Mall and the newly refurbished Capitol Building Dome is absolutely gorgeous right now. Pearlescent white that glows softly at sunset, saw it last night.
Once in a while, they do something very, very well.

Okay, I flipped over to Barton zfink to watch for a few minutes, and now closing in on midnight and gripped to the end. Love me some Cohen Bros.
I've not seen it.
I went to the Duke/UNLV game yesterday.
I live in Vegas. I worked at both schools (at different times, duh).
It was my first time at T-Mobile Arena. Go figure.
I had SUCH a good time. So glad I went. Man, they're good.
Of course I'm paying for it now because I've been sick for nearly 2 weeks and yesterday took a lot out of me. But it was worth it.
And I realize this could've been several posts but my energy is sapped.
Where is it in relation to the Thomas and Mack Center? Or has it just been rebranded?
Hmmm, so that's what they were working on. I noticed the construction and goings on the last couple of times I've been in Vegas.
Well, I made back from Costco today in one piece!
Meh, Costco ain't what it used to be. Sure, metric tons of q-tips are still mesmerizing but the rest of it is fairly mundane. The elephant head-sized vats of mayo barely raise a chuckle. Do I really want to go anywhere someone encourages me to bring along  a barrel of mayo?
The answer is "No."
What if it were devildeac trying to drum up business?Quote:

The answer is "No."
Bump.
Fell to page 2.
I blame the endless holiday build up.
At least traffic on the drive to work will be light.
I had a cold all week. Still do. I'll blame that.
Marginally packed up for the beach Christmas booze fest. The various beauty products alone occupy significant "way back" space in the vehicle.
"Gorgeous" never sleeps!
It's been 9 years!
Happy Anniversary, LTE!!!
My cats are older than the LTE...well, the oldest two.
I remember as a youth, my father would tell me about the shoes he had that were older than I was.
Costco was last week, but today?
Today, my friends, it's the booze and beer store.
Oars to the helm!
The menu...hhhmmm. I think it's the rib roast and the cabernets. Some assorted green, healthy items for window dressing and guilt assuaging (is that a word?) and then something obscenely chocolate. I mean chocolate so bad it makes you blush...weezie's Lethal Chocolate Pecan Pie, rescue squad on standby. Or maybe I should save that menu for New Year's...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KL9mRus19o
After the booze run I lost interest and returned to the ocean gazing.
Either a rump roast or a ribeye roast, yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, Senator Russell's sweet potatoes, green beans and pumpkin pie for dessert because I didn't make one for Thanksgiving plus gingerbread with freshly made whipped cream. I might add some maple sugar to the whipped cream.
A ham. That's all I've got.
Mom makes them every year. I have made them a few times. We don't know who Senator Russell was. It's a sweet potato casserole - mashed sweet potatoes and butter covered with a brown sugar and pecan topping, baked at 325 for about a half hour. 9000 calories a bite (might be slightly exaggerated). Also - NO marshmallows. They are a family favorite but I've got one kid with nut allergies and they aren't the same without the pecans which is why I don't make them every year. We have them when my mom comes up for Christmas.
They will run out of beers someday. Won't they?
Merry Eve
Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah, and a Happy Holidays to everyone in LTE land.
And to you, sir! Beautiful day here in VA Bch, went for a long walk and enjoyed perhaps a tad too much vino, but what the hay, laissez les bon temps rouler!
Or, fake it till you make it, yo...
DaughterPK and WifePK are tag-teaming on a virtually endless loop of The Office. I hear that damn theme song every 22 minutes, and have for three days straight now. Starting to make me twitch.
The first few seasons were good, after that not so much.
Or was OPK tossing up softballs?
Mrs.PK said that the twitch was her favorite part.
You will be proud to know that Mrs.PK often compares our honeymoon to the Kentucky Derby. Or at least I think that's what she means. She refers to it as "the most exciting two minutes in sports."
Hahahaha, I think I would enjoy hanging out with Mrs. PK. She must be a fine, saintly, long-suffering and delightful woman. Much like myself.
If anyone has a few spare prayers to share, would you please add Kip to your list. He is 19 months old and has been in the hospital (mostly PICU) for 5 days or so. He has two viruses that are causing fever and making his asthma act up so he has trouble breathing. He is in the right place but could use prayer support - as could his parents Elizabeth and Wes. He is their first child and they are expecting their 2nd child in May.
Thanks for any prayers and good thoughts you can send their way.
Sending vibes again...
Hugs to the parents and fight to Kip! Love that name.
I ended up with about 6 quarts of turkey broth after boiling down the carcass and some meat (plans s ham hock) Thanksgiving. Took two quarts out of the freezer, slowly steaming down to stock today for the NYD black-eyed peas and collards tomorrow. House smells wonderful.
OPK is happy.
That sounds good. Yummy.
Hopefully it offsets the odor coming from Blacksburg via my TV.
Just went out and got the supplies for my New Year's Eve tradition - red velvet cheesecake and a cheap bottle of moscato. Spending the rest of the night watching football in the recliner. Domino's will get a call in between games. I party hard ;)
These days, I no longer call. I use the app and then pick it up myself.
A lot of fireworks here last night. They are illegal in the city of San Antonio but I live right outside of the city limits, which saves about $1800 in taxes. Hmmm, is a slightly quieter January 1st and July 4th worth $1,800? I guess there are other offsets, I can recycle paint for free in the city, trash service is included in taxes, utility rates are slightly lower, etc.
Speaking of fireworks, I wish it would just stop forever. We have 3 mini schnauzers (2 of them are foster "failures" that we adopted).
The fireworks scares the little sweethearts so bad that they tremble. I end up spending New Year's Eve and July 4th by laying on the floor cuddling with them in an effort to calm them down.
And what my puppies are going through pales in comparison with what our veterans with PTSD might go through.
Ok. Rant over.
Happy New Year!!!!
I know fireworks are bad but there are few laughs better than watching my son and husband light them and run away cursing and ducking in the dark.
Small farm, far away from others, no animals were endangered, I promise.
Our dog also doesn't like fireworks - or thunder.
Or my cousin's potato/apple cannon - with which he almost took out his brother's RC plane. Quite the reenactment, the plane only saved by a really long reload time...
The fireworks started about 10 last night, and kept up (albeit off-and-on) through 12:30ish. She was not happy.

I suddenly have the feeling that I am going to spend more time on the OT board, and less on the main one, for about four and a half weeks give or take.
Could use your help some more over here then:

:p
The LTE is a zero calorie beverage. So, depending upon your New Year's resolutions.
Holy samoleans, there is a wicked gastrovirus sweeping around the DCMDVA. Many relatives were felled over Christmas and now husband-of-weezie cancelled his office hours to spend the day imitating a lump of sweat-clothing in the guest bedroom. He's barely moved. I've been sporting gloves and a face mask while wiping the door knobs and cabinet pulls with clorox spray.
I did check on him, sort of from the door, kinda, and ran some ginger ale to his bedside. It looks like 24 hours of sheer hell.
I'm a regular Florence Nightingale, I am.
One of my kid's best friend's family was so felled a couple days ago!
He got back to school in MoCo healthy today.
Vive le Clorox!

I guess these are all to avoid using NOVA?
Well, I got nuthin'... Kind of glum here outside and in.
Winter blahs here
Snow is nice as long as you don't have to go outside.
Cold here this morning. It was 71° at 6:30.
Nephew Alex is on his way to Tampa. Go Tigers!
DJIA partied like it was 19,999 today.
The Sounds of Silence...
Down 12 lbs, 18 to go.
Kip came home on Saturday. He had a very big smile on his face as he sat in his car seat heading home. He will be on "house arrest" for about a week. If he has no issues, then he can have more freedom. Thanks for the prayers and vibes. The family greatly appreciated all the prayer support they received.
I ran a 10k yesterday. I'm a bit behind in my marathon training but not so far behind that I'm worried about catching up, at least not yet.
So, I'm just gonna go ahead and post the link to my fundraising page.
I'm hoping some (no - not just some ALL of you ;) ) will make a donation. https://www.crowdrise.com/LisaBurdick
I'm going to encourage you to just go ahead and do it - don't wait - for purely selfish reasons. I get an awesome MGH Team jacket if I raise $3K by February 1st. C'mon - you're helping out kids with cancer!
Odd, LA goes from having zero teams for 20 years to having 2 teams. Insert editorial comment here. I just don't get it.
Failed at obtaining Dave Chappelle tickets :(
Must have sold out in under 2 minutes.
Quinoa...huge old MEEEHHHHH.
My son saw Chappelle's stand up a few years ago. Said he thought he had broken his face from laughing.
Who is Dave Chappelle? What is quinoa?
I like tewwtles

You were such a cute kid matty!
Classic! You can do that stuff on live TV. My couple of appearances have been taped and used later in the day.
Airbnb is awesome.
Not sure I'd want to share my house...

Watching a friend play (very well) on ESPNU...very cool.
I'll bring whiskey. Can't promise I'll leave any.
Just being real.
Newest tasting, from my trip to Ireland last summer:
Attachment 7089
I have had very good experiences with vrbo.
Damn, that smoked salmon was tasty. Picked some up at the local chain to roll sushi later, but had some on toast with cream cheese.
Just wanted to share my happiness. It's the little things in life that make the trip worthwhile.
I could never Air BnB. I have too many pets...
Yes, well I think enjoying several cold beers whiling away the hours in Durham before a game is a noble effort.
BD, I'm watching the Ladies' Finals tonight, and Gracie Gold looks like she no longer finds any joy in skating. I was sad watching her. I hope she finds her happy place.
So . . . Anyone have something positive for the good of the troops? Need to stay off the main board for a few days.
The 5th/6th grade team I coach lost in our city tournament semi-final last night. Always hard to watch the kids end the season on a loss.
Is anyone else really disappointed in the general tone of the boards lately? I don't just mean today after a tough loss, but for the last 18 months or so?
Feels there's a ton more infighting and accusations among our community about what real fans do and don't do, and how we all ought to feel about certain things.
It is sorta sucking the fun out of it for me. I miss watching games and hoping we do well. Seems this site used to add to my enjoyment, and now it detracts from it.
Or maybe this is just yet another negative post.
I rely on Frank Costanza's coping mechanism, Serenity now!
Yup, with little chance of abatement.
I can't even go on Facebook anymore. Great googly moogly. You would think the election is next week, not two months ago.
(Not saying folks' feelings aren't important -- just that the raw nerves on both sides are as exposed and "in your face" as ever)
I stick with what I have been saying for a while now - we have lost the art of compromise. There seems to be no attempt to find middle ground between sides. Everything is either "the sky is falling" or "everything is rosy". Nothing is as good as some think/expect nor as dire or bad as others think/expect.
Regarding being a fan - I think it is important to stay on the side of being disappointed for the team but not in them. No matter what fans think, they are not going out to try to lose. (This is even true for my Steelers on Sunday. :( )
Now, this makes me look like a savant since I never once logged into the Facebook. Tried to set something up once but lost interest and never actually did it. By my count, thousands of people have begged me, on a near daily basis, to be their pal.
That's some serious "hard to get" cred, right there, that is...
I usually stay on the Off Topic board the days following a loss.
It helps me cope.
I made the mistake of going on FB last night without realizing the time. Found out the outcome of the game and then debated whether to watch it or not. Did watch and kept wondering what we were going to do to lose it.
Benefit on going on FB - chimed in on a thread about whether my brother should get a kangaroo for the ranch. My niece caretakes the place and she wants one. :D So life isn't entirely boring. :D
Yeah - I could be on a really long holiday for things I've thought in chat during a game and reading post game "analysis" (aka doom & gloom).
Speaking of "on holiday", whatever happened to aswewere the Coach P tractor offense bashing poster? He/she/it isn't on the community member listing anymore. I really want to know what he/she/it think about this season's team.
Just saw Vandy give away a game by giving up 7 pts in the last 48 seconds. SMH, what more can go wrong?
Well, after being on the road for the last 4 days, I was awakened at 2 AM by the sound of a cat throwing up. So, there is that.
Folks on holiday don't show up in the directory...
-jk
Feral, dis-tempered cats at that.
And the folks here are a cut or five above the usual sports board as is.
I offer kudos to the mods as well. I would like to see aswewere resume posting some day if we can all avoid grinding the same ax over and over. He/she/it obviously is a close observer of wbb and knows more about it than I do.
I'm finding that I'm too depressed to get too upset about this year's team. They are young, and maybe, with the injuries and all, some will stick around for a second year.
Also, I'm running the marathon again, so, I often watch games while I'm running on the treadmill at the Y (with no sound). Somehow it's easier to take them not playing so well when you're on a treadmill.
Also - I'm assistant directing a show that is about to go into an intense rehearsal period. I'm still doing my dramaturgy thing in preparation.
Bottom line, I'm not paying as close attention to the team as I usually do.
(If I raise $3000 by February 1st, I get a super cool MGH Marathon Team jacket. I'm concentrating on that. I think I posted the link to my fundraising webpage upthread. PM me if you want it. Some of you have already donated. You know who you are and you are awesome.)
Gōng xǐ fā cái Y"ALL!!!
A new year(Chinese at least) and a new DBR over there in the other forum it appears. At least for today.
Unfortunately, it is the year of the rooster...
Why is that unfortunate? (Are roosters unlucky?)
Walked outside this morning to discover six donkeys, or maybe mules, in the front yard. That's one heck of a startle!
They had escaped from a distant neighbor's field. All's well, they're all home now but it was an interesting start to the day.
Prayers and vibes requested for a small procedure I am having tomorrow. Thanks in advance.
You got it big fella!
Vibes from South Central Texas.
Uhhh-ooohhhh.
Farewell gravy! We knew ye all too well...
Chins up OPK!
Good luck OPK.
Hope your procedure isn't as painful as what my daughter will be experiencing today or tomorrow. She will be delivering another granddaughter.
Departing Atlanta for Indiana for the event shortly. Hopefully she can wait that long.
I will be missing yet another home Duke game. This one is for a good reason. The others were for such things as weather and less important personal matters.
Made it home fne, thanks for the vibes. Good for another season!
All right, all right, all right!
Not a great first half, but then I spent most of it outside watering trees.
Thought I'd check in here and say "GO TO HELL CAROLINA, GO TO HELL!" Little vocal warm up...
Going to see Dave Chappelle tonight!
