Valerie Ashby is leaving Duke, where she was the Dean of Trinity College, to become the president of University of Maryland -- Baltimore County. As many will recall, Duke's decision to hire the Chair of the UNC Chemistry Department to be Dean of the historic Trinity College (since 1838) got a ton of "hoots and hollers" on DBR.
Anyway, while it seems like just a year or two ago, it was back in 2015 (when I was young and handsome).

Is that the institution that launched the Meyerhoff Scholars Program? I would honor Dean Ashby's career path, given that the encouragement that the MSP offers to future heroes is second to none. I have discussed before that the career of Kizzy Corbett, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kizzmekia_Corbett, and many other burgeoning scientists that have been nurtured in that crucible in Baltimore. May Dean Ashby provide the launching pad for another thousand journeys, and I hope that Duke finds a way to replicate that great incubator in our institution. Can't say enough about Kizzy Corbett and I tell my young patients every day that she was a North Carolinian, and UNC PhD. Possible Nobel candidate. Even as a Duke Grad/parent.
Thanks for the heads up. I may have to resume my charitable donations to Trinity, depending on who is named as her successor (and the extent of such person’s demonstrated commitment to academic integrity).

Mohamed Noor has been named as the interim dean of Trinity College. He was a biology professor and Dean of Natural Sciences at Duke, but more importantly, he was a science consultant on Star Trek! Live long and prosper! :cool:Quote:
