That's a winner! Duke 7, Lehigh 0.
Duke pitchers with 18 strike outs.
Today's game has been moved to a 2 pm start at the DBAP.
Duke won 8-1 today.
For what it's worth, the Lehigh SID told me yesterday that Lehigh has only been able to practice outside three times this year.
So, not a well-honed machine.
it makes me so envious to read about college baseball being played...this time of year many of the northern teams are migrating southward so they don't have to practice on snow, which makes the ball roll much slower...
With most colleges getting out in early May, bezbol seasons up here are ludicrously short...
Duke sweeps Lehigh, 4-3, after a long weather delay. The first 3-0 start since 1998.
Northern schools either don't play baseball (Syracuse, some Big 10) or spend the first 2 months in warm weather climate (ND, BC). The ACC has a rule where these schools are guaranteed not to host a series until late March (3rd weekend series). We even had a road series moved to Delaware with BC recently because of snow. (We got swept.)
Duke lost so many great players last season...what are those in the know predicting for this year's team?
(I know they're talking CWS over at the Cheats...)
We have the preseason #1 college pitching prospect, and are a borderline top 25 team. Preseason ACC poll had Duke expected to finish T-2nd in the Coastal with UVA tied in the same position, with UNC atop the division.
Should be an interesting, potentially very good follow up to last year's great finish.
Yes, many good players lost, but talent returns and the current freshmen were well regarded as a recruiting class. Brief preview from goduke.com

Blue Devils Picked to Finish Second in Coastal
The best thing we have, IMO, is an excellent coach.
Looking at the polls, both pre-season and current (as of today), Duke got respect. While not in all the polls, they are just outside the top 25 in a few, and in the top 25 in a couple others.
This is a good link, since you can select the poll and see the rankings in each.
