Wine Advent Day 2
Chateau Rauzan Despagne Bordeaux 2018
Smells like crisp green apple and pear.
Without googling it, would guess stainless steel and not oak.
Light, fruity and refreshing without being overly sweet.

Michel Gasser Nostre Pais 2016
A white blend- 40% grenache blanc, 30% roussanne, 20% clairette, 5% viognier, and 5% bourboulenc. Not at all familiar with 3 of the 5 grapes.
A little bit of oak, vanilla, and apple on the nose.
Delightful, and evokes memories of Conundrum, a white blend I enjoy.
Found at Costco, don’t recall the price.
Would buy again, maybe by the case.
Seeing Clairette made me think of Clairette de Die, one of my favorite sparkling whites that actually tastes like something (and not the lack of something).
Looking up 2016 Nostre Pais, the website states 55% Grenache Noir, 25% Syrah, 10% Mourvčdre, 5% Carignan, 5% Cinsault. Edit: This is the red I was looking at, the white is as you say.
It looks worth finding, especially if at Costco.
Publix here in Orlando had Veuve on sale for $42 last week, so we picked up a couple of bottles for the holidays -- in our opinion, it's the closest thing to the small producer French champagnes we prefer that can be purchased in the USA. I've also been taking advantage of the recent Total Wine promotional discounts to load up on my current favorite red, Paul Jourdan's Reserve de Leonie Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2015. Good deals on good wines are always cause for celebration!
World Market had Veuve on sale for $38/bottle on Black Friday.
I was not up to the shopping challenge even with that discount.
Wine Advent Day 3
Dinastia Manzanos Rioja 2018
Wonderful nose, no body.
Wouldn’t recommend.
Cerro Anon Crianza 2015 Rioja
A steal a $9 a bottle at Costco.
Easy drinking every day red.
Would go great with chili.
Would make a high quality house red.
Wine Advent Day 4
Don Cayetano Chardonnay 2019
A surprisingly good Chilean chard.
Great nose full of crisp apple.
Balanced, light, not overly buttery or sweet.
Again going to guess stainless based on the taste as well as the date.
Would definitely buy a few bottles and share.
Wine Advent Day 5
Avoid Cabalie 2018.
A french red blend that left a lot to be desired.
Wine Advent catch up
Visionario 2018
An Italian white wine.
Nose is a little bit floral, maybe a whiff of peach.
A bit of grapefruit and some flinty minerality.
A bit of an astringent alcohol finish.
Nice enough, nothing to be excited over.
Not part of an advent, but:
2014 Trilus Pinot Noir
This raises the issue of wine clubs. I belong to Tasting Room (part of what is or was called Lot 18). They have an initial round of small sample/bottle tastings, which one ranks/reviews, and then they send you a case of wine each quarter that your palate says it likes (although you can change the mix with other bottles). Any others who have a wine club they love?
So, this was one from Tasting Room that has been laying down for a couple of years. Terrific with grilled salmon. Bright color, with just a hint of brown’ish from the bit of aging. Nice nose. A bit of cherry & nice acidity in the palate. From California, but a mix of vineyards. Tasty.
We have friends who swear by Winc.
We have dinner with them about once a month and they generally serve good wine.
The only downside I’ve seen with some wine clubs is “house branding”. What I mean is, a wine club that takes something and slaps their own name on it, only available via them.
Vina Malachar Rioja Crianza 2016
70% tempranillo 30% grenache
Another wine with a great nose and just ok on the palate.
Very grape juicy. Perhaps a bit surprising given the 2016 vintage.
Drinks very young for a label that claims 2 year aging in oak and six months in the bottle.
