I really wanted this one! Great big man depth and experience!
Nicely done JS and staff! Can never have too much experienced frontcourt depth.
By the way, his per minute scoring and OReb stats are really impressive. Kid could be better than a lot of folks seem to think. This is not just a practice player. Kinda the opposite of Theo John, not a rim protector, but a dude who will get it done on the other end.
Welcome to the Brotherhood Ryan Young!
This was quick! Good get.
One year of eligibility or two?
Welcome to Duke Ryan. Glad to have you in the brotherhood!
Welcome Ryan! LGD GTHcGTH 9f! (Learn those acronyms if you don’t already know them!)
Welcome to Duke Ryan! Seems like a great addition.
I keep wanting to call him Chris Young like the Princeton center of the same size who was an MLB pitcher and is now GM of the Texas Rangers.
Great get, perfect for what we need - an experienced big to provide depth and push the young guys in practice. From what I’ve been reading about him he could earn Theo John level minutes even with Lively and Flip getting the lions share of time.
This could be an important issue. He played the last 3 years at NU, so presumably he could play in ‘23-‘24 as a 5th-year super-senior. As the ‘23 recruited class so far lacks a clear 5, maybe part of Scheyer’s pitch was the possibility that a hardworking Young could get 20+ mpg his 5th year.
Yup, I could absolutely see Duke's post plans being:
2022-23 - FR Lively and SR Young with perhaps some situational minutes for FR Flip and FR Reeves getting run in blow outs
2023-24 - SuSR Young with SO Flip (maybe he stays 2?) and SO Reeves backing him up
2024-25 - JR Christian Reeves and someone else
That's a great foundation for the future!
Welcome! Excellent news and great get. I think if Ryan hasn't yet graduated from Northwestern he HAS to be at Duke two years to get his degree (maybe one year + 2 summer schools is possible). But not enough transferable credits to graduate from Duke in two semesters.
Having some guys old enough to shave is definitely a good thing.
Welcome to Duke Ryan!
Now lets go get an elite two guard from the portal.
So can someone who is familiar with Northwestern’s team last year explain how Young was used and why he only played 17 minutes a game despite solid numbers?
