Coastal Carolina jumps all over Duke in the 1st inning and take a 5-0 lead as we head to the 2nd.
And knocks out our Sunday pitcher Jack Carey after giving up all 5 runs and getting only 1 out.
Ericson Nichols hits a 3 run HR . 5-4 in the top of the 2nd.
Nichols hits a two run rbi double in the 3rd giving him 5 rbis and Duke a 6-5 lead. He did not play in the first 2 games.
Thanks ump. :)
8-5 Duke. Still 1 outs, top 5. Not gonna feel confident till we hit 12 runs or so this game
Duke leaves the bases loaded in the 5th. Hope that doesn't come back to bite them.
New Pitcher, McCarthy comes in and has....well it was a 3 batter inning, but a creative one: goes 3-0 on the first batter but comes back to strike him out, walks the next guy on 4 pitches, strikes out the next guy on 3 pitches and then the man on first gets caught stealing.
So 1-2-3 what have you. I'd...still not feel confident in the second inning of his work.
McCarthy gets through another inning 1-2-3 and then after a strikeout to start the 7th, an E-6 leads to a single and a double.
two runs score, 8-7 Duke, man on 2nd with 1 out. Pollard now pulling McCarthy.
Bases loaded for Coastal, one out, after another single and a HBP. Definitely starting to agree with that we have pitching issues theory.
Pollard bringing in another new pitcher.
And a game tying hit by pitch. 8-8. Still loaded with 2 outs for coastal.
Duke gets out of it tie game, and now scores two runs to go back up 10-8
Pollard leaving in Conte too long again. 9th inning no outs walks and hits the first two batters . And no pitching change
This is inexcusable managing. 10-9 after another walk with two passed balls . WHAT WAS POLLARD WAITING FOR?????
Duke wins! 10-9. Managed to somehow throw a man out at home on a squeeze attempt and then 2Ks salvaged the split
What a game...what a day.
Congrats on taking the opening series!
Side note, did anyone watching the feed notice the mouse cursor on the screen for the last inning? That thing was annoying the hell out of me; I kept moving my own mouse to move it.
