We now have another Olympian to follow in Bejing. Fred Lind's daughter, Caroline has been named to the women's eights in rowing. Check out Greensboro News & Record, Jim Young's piece in today's edition to see how her selection unfolded. Impressive.....just like her dad, she is a team player. http://www.news-record.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080628/NRSTAFF/806280302

Caroline Lind Bio: http://www.usrowing.org/News_Media/AthleteBios/carlind.aspx

Fred is one of the all-time good guys and is a highly-respected public defender in Greensboro. He and his wife, Mary, have raised two successful daughters. Their eldest, Mary Laura recently defended her Ph.D. Thesis at Cal Tech and just received her degree earlier this month. Pretty nice month of June for the Lind family. Mary Laura has a website that has some great pics, including a keeper of Fred in his own top rowing form. http://www.its.caltech.edu/~mll/

her bio says that she went to princeton. that doesn't exactly count for duke olympians. we already have boozer and the freshman fencer. hopefully we will get 2 more in track and field.

Didn't mean to infer Caroline was a Duke grad. She's a proud Princeton Tiger!

And we totally understand Fred wearing a Princeton orange polo in that great rowing photo.

Let's also follow all the Duke offspring at the Olympics. Who are we missing?

Fred Lind's daughter, Caroline is representing the U.S. in the women's eight rowing event and will be submitting an online diary from the Olympic Games (if the Chinese don't censor). The U.S. women's eight are favored to medal. We are with you, Caroline! http://blog.news-record.com/staff/sportsextra/caroline_lind/

Thanks for the report and the link; what a great experience. Do you happen to know if Fred and Mary are going to make it over to China for the competition? I'm sure Fred could entertain the locals. :)

I'm sure they will be there. I look forward to Caroline's next Olympic Diary entry. Should be interesting to learn if everything she writes makes it through the Chinese internet censors, as is being reported.

What an incredible experience.....Also looking forward to hearing from Shannon Rowbury, who has a great chance to medal in the 1500!

Caroline mentions the MEDAL detector at their hotel. Hopefully the gold light goes off after the finals when they return!:)

The family is to arrive in Beijing shortly, and Caroline is very excited. She brings us up to date on training, interesting race course music, and lots of sweating. http://blog.news-record.com/staff/sportsextra/caroline_lind/

Good news indeed, and don't have to face the dreaded "repechage". One of my favorite words, and not usually heard other than in Olympic coverage. :)

There were some crowd shots at Monday's race, but I couldn't pick out Fred, Mary and the family. I know they are there and immeasureably proud of their daughter.
