A friend said NC was requiring the use of hands-free devices for cells while driving beginning July 1. Then I read it was a hoax. I went to the legislative site, and only found a bill about teens under 18 not being allowed to use a cell. Then I found this:
http://www.thoughts.com/thingsIwantyoutoknow/blog/north-carolina-cell-phone-law-106523/ (certainly not authoritative)
and this:
http://www.drivinglaws.org/ncarolina.php saying it was a hoax. Anybody know?

Have you checked the local newspapers, or caught the evening news lately?

The law is changing here in Washington, on July 1, requiring hands-free device or speakerphone usage, and it's been ALLLLLLLL OVER the news.

The CA law goes into effect July 1st. I don't know about NC, but I'm in favor of ALL states adopting such.

Living in L.A., I can't tell you how many close calls I've had while driving that were the result of idiots on their cellphones. (How can that many people have that much to say, hour after hour???)

I also find hundreds of folk walking/jogging/rowing/lunching/at sports events, etc. etc. busily talking on their mobiles. Give it rest-- you are NOT that important or interesting.

Yes, and that's why I really thought it was also true in NC. Apparently, though, it's not. Thanks!

It was 2:15 am, I was a little intoxicated, but I believe my taxi driver told me that all taxi drivers had to use hands free devices by a certain date... or face pretty steep fines.

It is a hoax. End of story, for now.
