1986: March
1987: Late January/early February
1988: March
1989: March; maybe early in year too
1990: Late March; also had a good stretch in late Jan/early Feb
1991: March, of course, but we were consistently good after mid-January
1992: Consistent all year with a rough patch in early February (partly due to lack of Hurley)
1993: December
1994: March; pretty consistent all year
1995: December
1996: January?
1997: February
1998: February
1999: February
2000: January
2001: March
2002: February
2003: January/early February
2004: February
2005: February
2006: December? Definitely not March
2007: did we have a peak?

"December" means December of the previous calendar year, of course. I have no real point here, just like with most other stuff I post, but I thought it would look interesting in print.

Partly?

1996: January?

Not even close. Duke was terrible in January, and was playing well until injuries caught up to them the last week of the season.

1998: February
2000: January
2003: January/early February
2004: February

These teams were playing solid ball in March - they just got beat by hot teams headed for the national title game.

I did that without looking at calendars or schedules, so games that I thought were early March (for example) may have actually been in late Feb.

In 2003 it seemed like we started going downhill after the St. John's game. That was played... March 2. So probably all of February is better. Similarly, 2000 was probably January and not Jan/Feb. 1996 probably didn't have a peak. 2004 was probably more like Jan/Feb.

It's not just about one year, though.

We won the 2003 ACCT in March.

1996 peaked in February. That's how we went from 1-4 to 8-8.

We were on track for a #1 seed in the NCAAs in 2003 before we lost to the Johnnies and curalonna. The ACC championship only got us back to a #3.

(Actually I think we should have gotten Wake's #2 NCAA seed that year, but my point is we were good enough for a #1 before backsliding.)

How did we peak in February in 1999? We were on like a 31-game winning streak headed into the national title game.
