All. JasonEvans, erstwhile commissioner of the DBR mock draft, is currently competing in the WSOP. I have dubbed myself assistant commissioner and stepped in to take his place and run the show this year. The mock draft will start on Monday June 23 at 9am Eastern [edit - if we get filled up by close of business Thursday, we will start Friday, June 20 at 9am].

Here are the rules:

Whoever posts first in this thread saying they want to GM a certain team-- they are the GM. GM duties do not entitle you to make trades, we are only going to make draft picks.

Every GM is expected to make his picks in a timely fashion. Please do not make us wait 5 or 6 hours for you to make a pick or we will never get through the entire draft. It would be nice if we could pick the entire first and second rounds before the NBA does the real thing in 8 days.

Once you make a pick, you are expected to explain your choice and be ready for criticism.

That's about it. If I think of more that needs to be added, I will post it in this thread. Again, the way to sign up to make a team's picks is to post it into this thread.

Now, go for it!!!

yay, we have another taker - come on people, let's get this going.

The "PM" comment was directed to me. I asked a moderator to update the list of teams, and -jk asked me to send him a private message with periodic updates. Posting in this thread is all you need to do to sign up, so you're signed up for the Spurs.

Thanks, pfr. I am somewhat busy (http://scoopthepot.blogspot.com/) at the moment and really fell down on the job when it comes to running the DBR Mock Draft.

After 5 or 6 years, it is probably healthy to have a new commish this year.

That's not the attitude to take (besides, we need GMs - this mock draft is in danger of being stillborn...)

Do you plan to draft in the style of Donnie Walsh or Isaiah? That is an important distinction!

Chicagooooooooooo BULLS (I'll take em.)

FBB has switched from the Bulls to the Utah Jazz. Apparently the Beasley/Rose decision was too stressful. 19 more owners to go, and lots of good looking teams still available!

Why should not we attempt to finish the draft as quickly as possible, let him pick, it won't harm anyone else and we will be 1/60th of the way to completion.

Should we allow GMs to double up with teams, with the proviso that another poster who does not yet have a team can select a GM's second team up until Sunday Night?

I also agree that we should allow the selection process to start now if the GM is ready. Nobody would be on the clock until Monday, but we might get a few picks in before Monday.

Unless the GM with the first pick lets me know that he/she is unavailable to draft early Monday morning, I'm sticking with the Monday start time.

As for doubling up, let's wait until Sunday to start that, with your proposed proviso. So starting Sunday, if there are still teams available, posters who are already GMs may add a second team.

Mods - can we un-sticky this? In a weird way, I think it may have gotten less attention up here than as part of the regular threads. I'll make sure it doesn't fall off the front page.

Everyone else, still plenty of good looking teams available - sign up today!

While I would love to include trades in our mock draft, it's difficult enough just to get a full roster together and have the draft. No trading in the DBR mock draft. Although it will be interesting to see if there's any action for JO this summer - I'm not sure his trade value is super high, considering the contract.

You mean you don't think Jermaine O'Neal is worth 20+million a year for the next 3 years?

Is is possible to get a look at who has signed up for whom at this point? This might get some movement as well.

Only six teams remain. As noted up-thread, current GMs may now take on a second team, with the understanding that a poster who is not a current GM may claim that team before the draft starts on Monday. I will post a separate thread for the draft in which all picks will be made.

C'mon folks, just a few more hours and we still have a few teams to go. This is your chance to show you can do it better than Danny and Billy. Well, OK, they're tough shoes to fill! At least do better than the accursed Mitch Kupchak.

New Orleans (Chris Paul needs a teammate; K likes him, won't one of you?)
Dallas (James Garner was an owner! How cool is that?)
LA? (Jeez! How could LA still be on the table?)

Golden State and Denver are charity cases - someone can still pick them up!

I follow the draft (I'm going this year) a decent amount so if you want to start this by a certain day/time I'll take any teams that are left. I think we'd both prefer having more people do this but if you are in a bind, just let me know and I'll do the remaining ones if we need me to.

Thanks. Two of the three remaining teams have only (late) second round picks. If we even get to the Lakers, I'll consider it a success - last year may be the only mock draft we've ever finished on the DBR.
