A new dean has been appointed for Trinity. Anyone comment on this new appointment or did I overlook it?

Well, KC Johnson has...

Not to resurrect all the old lacrosse issues; but to me this is problematic in that it highlights (again) a case of Duke seeming to reward professors who behaved questionably at best in relation to whole situation.

I had much the same reaction. I was intrigued by this quote from Baker, "My energy will be focused on making Trinity one of the best undergraduate colleges in the country," he said. "I am happy to forgo teaching for a while." What does this mean? Is Duke not yet one of the best?

What also strikes me is that he was chosen for this particular position; and its concommitant emphasis on fair representation and advocacy for Duke students. He seems an odd choice to be sensitive towards students and their needs given his role in the lacrosse situation.

I have been a Duke Sports fan (but never a student) for about 47 of my 55 years. Being stubborn and unwilling to give up said status, I will continue to pull for my beloved Duke Blue Devils.

But the decisions and behavior of the Duke administration as highlighted by the lacrosse debacle have shown to me that the well-being of radical faculty members is more highly prized than the excellent education that the students there deserve.
