Ok, pretty random question, but does anyone here know of any places in or near Durham that do contra dancing? Any information is appreciated.

I have no idea where contra dancing occurs, but I'm sure the steps involve up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right...

I have a DUMB question...what is contra dancing? Like the first responder, I'm picturing a bunch of dudes wearing tight pants, bandoliers, bandanas and combat boots, carrying gigantic machine guns. :o

Dang you beat me to it :) On a side note, I just bought Contra this past week while vacationing in beautiful KY, and the code still works today as well as it did 20 years ago. :D

Isn't contra dancing the opposite of dancing, like sitting very still in a meditative state?

here is a link for the triangle...if nothing else they can point you in the right direction.

Here is a link if you are ever in Ann Arbor, MI. One of the faculty was really into it and would have the students attend a dance once a year

Yeah, I hear it's popular in Iran.

I have friends who contra dance. I would guess though that Hendersonville is a bit longer than you would want to commute.

Thanks, I'll look into that and see what I find out.

Honestly I know about as much about contra dancing as anyone else here...my interest lies not in contra dancing but in the person that would go with me, who does like contra dancing but doesn't know any places around here that do it.
