Has there ever been an assistant coach with more wins than the head coach?

What recruit wouldn't want to play for Duke?

The scary thing is that I could actually see it happening. During the NCAA tournament, I heard Bob Knight mention a few times on ESPN that Duke was his favorite team to watch.

I don't think Knight has any intention of being assistant coach anywhere at this point in his life.

Imagine Coach K winning the game that puts him atop the all-time winningest coach list...with Bob Knight, the man he would be surpassing, watching from the Duke bench as Coach K's assistant...that would be pretty surreal, don't you think?

Ironically, I think Duke would be more well -liked across the country with Bob Knight as coach.

Cameron is a pretty small building. I don't know if both K and Knight's egos could fit inside.

(Note: not a knock on either. They've earned their egos)

Herald Sun Reporter: "Coach K, if I may ask you a question?"

Bobby and Mike (simultaneously): "Yes?"

No. Only room for one Coach K in Cameron.

I don't know, but Dr. James Naismith was an assistant coach at Kansas when he got older. That's pretty crazy that he invented the damn game and he was an assistant.

Dean Smith is currently unemployed. How about hiring Knight and Smith?

The only problem is that both of them would want to be the big man coach.

Roy Williams will be a Duke assistant before Knight.

Since the new assistant coach has already been hired, and there are other assistant coach threads, I'm locking this one. (Also, some might argue that the idea of Coach Knight, coming out of retirement, to work as an assistant at a paltry salary, underneath a protege of his, and taking orders from the protege, might be, on its face, a bit ridiculous.)
