Shane battier came in 3rd to Marcus Camby (By a mere 3 points) and Kevin Garnett in Defensive player of the Year standings.
This almost certainly guarantees him a first team NBA All Defensive team this year, an award he so greatly deserves.
CONGRATS!

Yeah, just what Detroit needs: a long perimeter player at small forward who is an elite defender and can also stretch defenses with his outside shooting.

Plus, Shane could easily fulfill his duties as mayor, then governor, then senator, right on up to president! A native son of the great state of Michigan!

I don't think anyone said it was realistic, just that they wanted to see it happen -- I'm assuming they're Detroit fans and Shane fans.
Good for Shane! This All-NBA type recognition has been a long time coming for him and his defensive prowess. I'm proud of him and I'm proud of the voters for finally recognizing.

Was Kirk from Detroit? He was always such a brawler (and a lover).

Kirk who?
Gibson? Yes, he was a Michigeek.
And don't forget, we dance pretty well in the Mitten state, too.
