According to this AP/Yahoo news item today, HD signals are being compressed so severely that they lose much of their definition when decompressed.

At least one BSG fan is not happy (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080421/ap_on_hi_te/compressed_hd;_ylt=AgeP3WUc3RAlZoEnKhrkcK.s0NUE) (but not ready to switch).

Wait until the compression is applied to live sports broadcasting. There will be big trouble.

Comcast's newer HD channels are ~12Mbps, while older ones are still 18 Mbps. SciFiHD is one of the newer ones, also it has problems unique to it.

Just last week, I had a door-hanger notice that FiOS is now available in my 'hood, W00T! Can't get an installation appointment fast enough, if you ask me.

If you have any FiOS questions, or Verizon issues PM me.

BTW, I'm glad this issue has finally gotten some MSM attention.
