This f'n great. How sweet it would be if Kansas could overtake Vegas' blowout record in the Final Four. Not likely, but what fun it would be.

The cynical fan in me says this KU lead won't last, though. However, KU is much, much quicker. Wow.

I'm a tad worried that in the last minute and a half the refs have called 5 straight fouls on Kansas to take the steam out of them. I think foul difficulty is the only way UNC gets back in this game. Still, even with those 5 straight calls the Jayhawks have extended the lead to a whopping 26. Incredible.

Yeah, I can't believe he just said that. Talk about the kiss of death. Almost as if he's trying to get some reverse mojo going for Carolina by making that ridiculous a statement. No way is the game over with 7 minutes to go in the 1st half - and he knows it! That's just stupid on his part.

I thought it would happen earlier in the tourney, but I've said all along that sooner or later a cold shooting night from the arc would knock UNC out. That it's happening against a team that can and is shooting has turned this into a rout. The only two bad things about it is that it probably means another year of Hansbrough. And this has been a very bad tourney for the ACC.

This is fun to watch - can't help but be a bit embarrassed for the conference. However, we have all seen UNC down big on more than one occasion this year and come back to win. Still, I haven't seen Kansas play this well in the games I have seen this year.

As for my question in the other thread, I remember Duke coming back over MD in the Tournament, but I was asking about a final score - the worst trouncing a team ever took in the semis.

Ok, I know the Jayhawks are up by a bunch and this shouldn't matter, but danged if the Tar Babies aren't getting every freakin' close call go their way. It's the only thing keeping them from being swamped. The foul calls are something like 10 to 5 right now in UNC's favor.

Edit: Now the calls are really getting terribly unbalanced and I'm going to predict that UNC is back in this game by halftime. Down by no more than 14 or 15. And if that's what happens, it's gonna be a dogfight all the way through the second half because they can make a run to get right back into the game in a matter of 2 minutes. Dang refs! I think the calls are 3 to 1 against Kansas at this point.

It's ridiculous to say UNC is getting all the calls. Self has a pretty good strategy here. I think he knows his guys are going to get called for fouls as physically and aggressive as they're playing, but he is spreading them out across his deep bench.

Unless UNC can make up some ground with their bench, there is no way their first team can bring them back and still have the energy to finish it out. If Kansas can come out re-energized they can end this early. If UNC's three pointers start falling then it could become a game.

I painfully remember that Duke was the victim was the worst trouncing in a Final game in the loss to UNLV in 1990. I was just curious about a semi-final game. Still can't find the answer and I guess it doesn't really matter. UNC will probably not equal that embarrassment tonight (darn), but one can hope. As I said before, we have seen then down by a large margin earlier this year and make comebacks. Not trying to rile up the woof gods and I do hope this post has appeased them.

UNC rocks! Roy Williams rocks! Baby blue is my favorite color - man, that was hard to say - I really like pink :D

Fouls: KU 13 - UNC 5. And look at the fouls that were called - phantom fouls, brush fouls, and blocks on UNC that were called the other way.

That being said, I wish that KU had played smarter after they jumped out to the big lead.

Finally somebody exposes Hanbrough for the fraud he is. Yes he may play hard, but come on he's nothing but a short (6'7") unathletic white kid who has feasted on sub-par ACC post players his entire career and is really a product of the hype that surrounds UNC. I laugh so hard when people say he might be one of the best college players of all time...come on...he's not even the best player ever at his own school or one of the best players in conference history. Laettner would eat him for breakfast.

It was so great seeing those tall, athletic posts of Kansas swatting his shots like it was volleyball. All I can say is everybody just got a preview of the pros where Hansbrough at his best might be Udonis Haslem. Anyway, Go Jayhawks! Anybody that thrashes UNC like that get's my vote to win the whole shabang.

Thinking back through this game, it was remarkable how a balanced front court really exposed Carolina. They certainly are tough on the defensive boards, but Packer's point about KU taking it to UNC's front line was right on the money (as much as it pains me to say that).

Neglecting the open looks at the end of the game, the first 15 minutes really made Hans look pretty weak on defense. Not much is ever made of his vulnerabilities in this area. Hard work is great, but his defense is a liability.

Any way you slice it - UNC with one of (if not THE) most dominant players in the history of the ACC has yet to win it ALL.

Yes, they lost to a good team (although being down by 28 and losing by 20 is embarrassing), but it's still gotta sting for UNC fans. They had all the pieces...Lawson, Ellington, Hans, Green, Thompson and the defensive stopper Ginyard.

How would Duke fans view the '91/'92 Duke team if Laettner/Hurley/Hill never won it all? We'd probably still like them, but they wouldn't be no where near as special.

Hanbrough may go down in history as UNC's best player to never win it all.

Man, I'm as happy as the rest of you guys tonight as my priorities are #1 Duke wins it all and #2 UNC doesn't, however, you seem to have short memories. It wasn't that long ago that the ACC scoring record holder and a dominant player in his own right couldn't take a certain ACC team all the way.

Im already sick of all the Heels media calling this a historic comeback.

Um, a comeback is so called because you "come back" to win the game.

Carolina didn't even get the game tied back up. It was an incredible RUN during the game, but it wasn't a comeback.

look..the holes NEVER lose.....they "comeback", "make a run", "make a game of it", "make it competitive", "rest up for the "big dance"...........

there are only two things when the holes lose...... HISTORY and NEXT YEAR.

Carolina was able to cut the lead to five points, but Kansas immediately responded and pushed it back up to seven or eight. I think Kansas might have folded from the pressure if Carolina had tied or taken the lead, but Carolina was never able to cut the lead below five. So I agree that it was not a comeback and definitely not a historic one. In the end, chalk up a mark in the "L" column for the Heels.

Minor meaningless correction -- pretty sure they got the lead down to 4.

Who cares. It's just semantics. At the end of the day, Carolina's done regardless of what it's called.

Doesn't matter to me if a Heel thinks this was a better "comeback" than Duke against Maryland because at the end of the day, the Banner hanging in Cameron will tell you all you need to know about which was better.

For the record, I give Carolina credit for cutting the lead or whatever you want to call it. They didn't quit. That said, this had as much to do with Kansas choking for 25 minutes as it did with Carolina playing good basketball.

You are correct. Wayne Ellington made a layup at the 11:16 mark to cut the lead to 54-50.

He is a guy that could end his career with 3000+ points!

Could a national championship rank Hansbrough among the top 15-20 college players of all-time?

It showed great heart to cut it from 28 to 4, but the way I see it, Carolina lost 2 times. They definitely lost in the 1st half and they lost by letting Kansas push the lead back up when it got to 4 (4 points is anybody's game).

0-0 - 44-27.....Carolina lost
54-50 - 84-66....Carolina lost

Ranking the best basketball moments of my life...

Duke over UNLV 1991
Duke's 2nd half against Michigan 1992
Duke's 22 point comeback over Md 2001
Dunleavy's 3 3s over UA 2001
UNC just quitting against Duke, ACC tournament final 2001
(wow, 2001 was a great year)
Kansas kicking the tarholes all over the court for 15 minutes...last night

What a beautiful game. Now to buy some Jayhawks gear (to go with my Georgetown long sleeve t from last year)

... are THE PASS AND THE SHOT over Kentucky in 1992? I loved all of the moments you listed above, but not one outdoes Laettner and the 92 Devils!

So you're happy that we are now them then? Not me. I HATE being reduced to hoping they lose in the Final Four because we lost in the second round. Relieved, but feeling pathetic for having to rely on that.

I did not say I was happy about it. I did not say we are now what they were while we went to 7 FF in 9 years. My philosophy/feelings are constant: I root against them all the time in both men's/women's sports; from FB in the fall until the last putt is made in the NCAA golf championships in the summer and every pinfall in wrestling, kill in VB and stroke is completed in swimming, crew or tennis in-between. I'll stop there lest it become a rant. I subscribe to the 'James Armstrong philosophy' that he described so clearly early in the growth of DBR when he would be happiest if their XXX team(he used MBB) went 0-30 and three of their losses were to us with each margin of victory being greater than 30-40 points and that the pattern was repeated for many years. I disagree with JE here that in order for us to be good, unc must be good, also. Duke can be good/great without our neighbors being good, too. And when they are not good, then I have to listen and read about them far less than when they are successful.
