Seems like a decent hire. He's got a lot of work to do.

Has Gordon declared his intentions re: NBA early entry yet?

Hasn't declared yet. But if I were Crean I would be in his ear asap, if he hasn't already done so. He has some serious work ahead of him. I think he'll succeed at IU. Overall, a good hire.

This is a fantastic hire for Indiana fans. Tom Crean's a better fit for the program (and a bigger Midwestern name) than WSU's Tony Bennett, who the Hoosiers weren't going to get anyway.

If Eric Gordon even has the slightest inclination about returning for his sophomore season, then Indiana's swiftness in finding a new coach may pay off.

Will Indiana become the next Guard U? And how good is that Indiana-Michigan State series going to be in a few years?

WOW. This is a tremendous hire for IU. Even forgetting about the NCAA rules issues I'd take Crean over Kelvin Sampson in a heartbeat. He's got some real work ahead, as unless by some miracle Eric Gordon sticks around he will likely have zero returning starters next season. Still, I expect Crean to do very, very well at IU.

The lying had already started.

Crean, the man with the best tan in the midwest, had iu students sing the fight song or school song late tuesday night because he said he never heard them. Guess he was too focused when he came in with msu.

He's a fraud. He owes ever last cent of his contract to wade, and crean wasn't even the first guy on him. the previous regime, led by mike deane, was on wade, specifically rob jeter.

It's the truth, folks.

Oh, crean and sampson are buddies.

Based on what I've read about Crean, he is a terrific hire. His teams at a small Catholic school have been very competitive during and after Wade and he continuously gets high marks from insiders who know basketball (Bilas, Francilla and others). In addition, he is familiar with the Big Ten having been an assistant for Izzo. But what seals it for me was the very high praise he got from USAbasketball staffers and fellow coaches. He was the assistant on one of the national teams a couple of years ago and the head coach and USAbasketball staff were very impressed and were effusive when discussing his coaching ability and work ethic as well as his attention to detail when scouting and developing strategies for opponents.

He like many other college coaches were/are friends with Sampson.

He reminds me of Tom Arnold sometimes and that scares me. He is a good coach but there is something about him that gives me bad vibes. The frantic pacing on the sideline is annoying to.

Sometimes? I think he could be his brother. Separated at birth?

I think Crean is a great hire for IU.

So now that Kevin O'Neil is out at Arizona, and the Marquette job is open, how about Kevin O'Neil back to Marquette. Ha ha ha

I think Gordon is as good as gone. His real focus should be on convincing Jordan Crawford to hang around and not transfer out.

Great hire for IU, but...

Is it just me, or does Crean have to have some sort of knowledge/educated guess as to how serious these NCAA sanctions are going to be?

Or, is he ambitious/patient enough to completely rebuild the program if the sanctions are really severe (causing IU to really bottom out, if they aren't already with all the defections)?

Is this meant to be serious? He's a liar because he heard the song while employed as an opposing coach? I'd argue with you, but I get the feeling it would hardly be worth it.

It could already be bottoming out. The only two returning starters (barring a shocker from Eric Gordon) just got dismissed (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3323406). Although, given the reasons for dismissal (missing a meeting and a 6am punishment run), the individual doing the dismissing (Dakich), and the timing (just before Crean is brought onboard), I wonder if Crean will ask the players to rejoin the team.
