. . . the best current band no one has heard of. They are really good.

Check out the new CD by The Holmes Brothers. Great gospel influenced Americana, with guest spots by Levon Helm, Joan Osborne, and Roseanne Cash.

Miles
Sonny Rollins
Coltrane
Stan Getz

Be Bop in general......I could go on and on....
Some fusion...only the good stuff...

New ones to watch:
Taylor Eigsti
Eldar

and a host of other new kids on the block...

Now my tip:

Subscribe to Rhapsody.... gives you stream access to millions of sides
Then purchase Replay Music (one time cost)

1. Stream while Replay records
2. Cut your sides----- megabucks saved....

Nuff said....

So does your Miles stop with In a Silent Way or do you go on? I've found myself listening a lot to On the Corner lately, maybe it's just the natural soundtrack to employment discrimination. You say some fusion, so I assume so. Outside of some Mahavishnu (mostly the quieter stuff) I can't get into too much more (Tony Williams). The RVG reissues of Hank Mobley have been been a recent favorite too.

You guys are way hipper than me... I spent the morning listening to Van Halen II. Young, alcoholic Eddie Van Halen was a GOD!

no, nels cline is god.

jazz hipsters and guitar freaks alike should check out Interstellar Space Revisited. nels cline (currently lead guitarist in wilco) with greg bierden (?sp) on drums interpret coltrane's free jazz lp, Interstellar Space. at first it sounds like utter noise but if you stick with it, it is really cool.

and i also will add that Miles' In A Silent Way is one of my all time faves. It is the ultimate chill out album. In retrospect it seems about 30 years ahead of its time.
