I'm putting together a list of former Duke players from other countries (or whose lineage is not of the United States. Off the top of my head, not many come to mind:

-Alaa Abdelnabby
-Loul Deng
-Dan Meaghar (I'm sure I'm missing multiple Canadians)

Which others come immediately to mind for you? Has Duke basketball ever had an Hispanic or Asian player?

Olek Czyz.

We are recruiting what would be our first player from Latin America (I think).

Add Christian Ast, a German who came to Duke in the Grant Hill, Lang, Clark, Blakeny class. Played two injury-plague seasons at Duke before transferring to American.

You all hit all of the players that I have listed as international in my database (http://www.scacchoops.com/forms/PlayerDatabase.asp), although we have Abdelnaby listed as being from New Jersey.

Reminds me of a quote from "Short Circuit," where Steve Guttenberg (aka Newton Crosby) is talking to an indian techie with a thick accent...

Newton Crosby: Where are you from, anyway?
Ben Jabituya: Bakersfield, originally.
Newton Crosby: No, I mean your ancestors.
Ben Jabituya: Oh, them.... Pittsburgh.

Might be the first time I have ever seen anyone quote from Short Circuit.

My understanding on Abdelnaby is this. His parents were natives of Egypt but lived in New Jersey. His parents wanted all of their children to be born on Egyptian soil, so AA's mother went back home to Egypt for the birth and then went back to new Jersey. So, some asterisks might be in order here.

Get a bag of dirt from Egypt and have it ready in the delivery room.
