Watkins Award to football recruit

The Watkins Award is annually presented to the African-American high school athlete who best combines academics and athletics. It's sponsored by the National Alliance of African American Athletes. On Saturday, the award went to Matthew Daniels, one of our incoming football recruits.

There is no reason we can't use this type of thing to our advantage. There are smart kids out there who are also good football players.

I agree that it's great, since it's not as if the Duke name put Daniels over the top for an award that primarily goes to football players (most of whom, by the way, seem to go on to the NFL).
