Coach Cut, that's who!

For whatever it speaks to his qualities as a coach and as a person, this definitely has to be a pretty good selling point for Duke Football right now. Play it up with the recruits, fellas!

Go Duke!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Devils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GTHCGTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well if you are serious about playing QB in the NFL how can you not look at Duke.

It is great that we are still talking about football in Feb! It is even better that we are 7-0 in the ACC in Hoops!

GO TO HELL, CAROLINA, GO TO HELL!

Keyshawn Johnson said on ESPN after the Super Bowl that he was totally shocked by the result -- said it reminded him of "Duke beating Las Vegas", it was that big of an upset. Heh...that was a nice thing to hear after an awesome game. :)

Think this will help any in the last 2-3 days of recruiting before signing day?

I don't think it will influence Pryor's decision, but I've been wrong before!

Well here's hoping you'll be wrong again!

If not, I'm happy with Asack and Thad for now, and Renfree in the future. No complaints here.

Also, what does 9F mean? I've been wondering for a while...inside joke?

Check out the DBR Handy Pocket Reference here (http://www.duke.edu/~bct1/images/DBRHPR7.1asPDF.pdf), a product of the warped mind that is DBR mod Throatybeard.

You will also find it linked in one of the "sticky" threads on the King board.

Thanks! It's all much clearer now. In a bizzare coincidence, I think my dad's tickets are section 9, row F. I can't remember for sure how many rows up I am, I might be E...I'll check sometime to be sure.

Tell your dad to get in touch with Ozzie. He could make a killing off those seats...

Yeah, Coach Cut sounds like the kind of assistant basketball coach we need to deal with the physical play of the so-called football schools that have been added since 1989.

Cutcliffe for me, as well.

Thanks, but I've already got season tickets. Not Section 9, Row F, but after having them for 26 seasons in them, I'll stay where I am.

The connection is not unnoticed around the country, and the more the info is distributed, the more likely we can get the fence sitters to enroll and the more likely we can compete successfully with the Miami's of the world.

I liked the comment at the end of the broadcast last night that the Manning Camp in Mississippi would be sold out. I wish they had mentioned that it was going to be in Durham instead.

I'm as amped as the next guy, but I think the question of "who fathered the last two superbowl MVP's" might be a smidge of a factor here as well. Just sayin'.

I'm planning to attend the Football Signing luncheon scheduled in Durham on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to hearing whatever Coach Cutcliffe has to say about recruiting, what he's learned about our team, when the Mannings will be on campus, etc.

Regarding the Manning football camp, according to their web page, the Manning Passing Academy is held in Thibodeaux, LA at Nichols State University where the NOLA Saints have previously held training camps. You can check it out here http://www.manningpassingacademy.com/. It's interesting to read who's eligible, who's going to be there and what sort of activities are included. The location is 60 miles from NOLA where Archie and Olivia live.

Thanks for the links! I found this especially interesting:

"Cutcliffe [...] personally instructed four players who took part in the World Series and Super Bowls in the past 12 months [...] As the former quarterbacks coach at the University of Tennessee, Cutcliffe worked with Todd Helton, who played in the 2007 World Series for the Rockies [...] Cutcliffe became head coach at Ole Miss, where two of his quarterbacks were Eli Manning [...] and Seth Smith, who was a teammate of Helton in the World Series. 'I also recruited Matt Holliday,' Cutcliffe said. 'And (hitting coach) Alan Cockrell was a quarterback for us (at Tennessee).' "

Lots of switching between baseball and football!

Re: those who mention the preference for "Coach Cutcliffe" over "Coach Cut," I generally agree with you that, while an easy and obvious nickname, I don't especially like it. Until I hear more definitively that he wants to be called something other than Cutcliffe, or that the team has taken to calling him a different nickname...etc., I'll try to stay with Coach Cutcliffe.

Go Duke!!!!!!!!!! Go Lady Devils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO TO HELL CAROLINA GO TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While on the topic of nicknames (I completely agree by the way), it's important to note that it should be "Go Duke Blue Devils!!!" after the "Go Duke!" Unlike other teams (Tennessee) we don't differentiate betweens women's and men's sports. We're all Blue Devil's here! I believe there was another thread on this point recently.

I seem to recall his former players referring to him as "Coach Cut" but I'm happy to call him whatever he prefers.

“Cutcliffe emerged as a natural fit. The man known by his players as "Coach Cut" developed Peyton Manning during his first stint with the Volunteers, then coached Eli Manning at Ole Miss”

Just like in this article and in several other posts on the subject, I have seen several former players ( Peyton and Eli Manning, Heath Shuler) and Archie Manning refer to Coach Cutcliffe as “Coach Cut”. I assume that is what he likes to be called and that works for me.

Actually, my standard sig begins "Go Duke!!!!!!!!!! Go Devils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..." I shifted it specifically today given this evening's matchup.

Nevertheless, as i wasn't planning on changing my Wednesday sig to "Go Gentleman Devils!!!!!!!!!", it remains a fair point as regards unnecessary gendering of our Devils. :0)

I'm willing to go with "Cut". I didn't question though. You've got me mixed up with someone else. I wondered if he was able to see his former pupils live.
