It was a pretty ho-hum game from a plus/minus perspective. Perhaps the most notable numbers were the fact that Duke got outscored by three without Nelson in the game, and that the team ran much more effectively with Paulus at the point. On to the stats...

King looked slightly better on D today (with a block and a charge taken, for instance) but still looks sloppy at best. He's guarding an inside man, and whenever a player drives inside, he moves to double him. The driving player passes to the now open big man who King shouldve been guarding for an easy 2. This happens repeatedly.

Similarly, inside passes to big men getting by king are not uncommon. He needs to work on that. Thus the +/-.

Incidentally, D-McClure, while i love his gritty defense, has got to pull more weight on the offensive end. Its getting annoying to see a 0 down for points every game on his end.

This happens to all Duke players guarding someone in the post, and it has been happening for 20-plus years. It's Duke's system (and most teams' system, for that matter). If a guy gets into the lane, the closest big rotates over to help. If the guard is skilled enough to slip a pass to the guy's man, they'll score. That's also why we tend to give up offensive rebounds. It's hardly unique to King.

Dave is in there to set screens and grab offensive boards. I don't know why you think he needs to shoot to be effective. Duke is scoring more than 85 ppg, and scoring fine when Dave is on the floor. There are ways to be effective offensively without shooting, too. Take, for instance, Dave's beautiful pass to a cutting Scheyer for a layup and a foul.

Oh correct, its just that King just seems too often to be beat by the man he's guarding, and his last 2 games has looked dreadful on D.

He only got minutes in this game due to the refs calling a bajillion fouls

Oh, once again i agree with you. Last year for example he was extremely effective on the boards. But something just seems worse about Dave this year. Maybe its in comparison to the rest of the players this year (who have almost all improved) but it just seems as if he's often the weak link on the floor.

I thought Kings defense was fairly good today, he did some very nice things and earned his extra PT. If he was going to get extra minutes due to foul trouble it would have happened last game, not this one

I also thought Taylor King looked good. He had five rebounds and a blocked shot to go along with his six points.
