Today's Duke Chronicle has a front page story with bad news for the football program. It seems that Eron Riley and Austin Kelly were arrested Friday after a fight broke out at a Durham club. I didn't see this article in the N&O or the Durham Herald. It will be interesting to see how Coach Cutcliffe handles this situation.

Edit: Sorry! Didn't see the "A test for Coach Cutcliffe" thread. My mistake. Please merge. That title didn't stand out enough! :)

Not good news for sure. But please let's not rush to any conclusions.

We certainly need both of those players next season, but I would think, that IF the justice system plays out and the allegations are true, that both would see 1 or 2 game suspensions next season.

I've drawn no conclusions. I am interested and concerned about how it will play out. We've not had a lot of such incidents in recent years. (Some programs seem to have a number of incidents involving players being arrested year in and year out.) As one of the veteran (I prefer that to older) fans who remembers the fairly frequent fights and arrests involving football players down at the Blue Light, I can remember when this sort of thing was more frequent than has been the case recently.

We've discussed what Coach Cutcliffe brings to the program in terms of preparing for games on the football field. I am interested to see how he handles this sort of happening.

It's not pretty, but at least it's not a social disaster!

Not yet...give it time. (Only kidding, I hope!)

The actions described and the guys alleged to have committed the crime only fit the "football meathead" stereotype. The "wealthy white male athlete" stereotype is much more juicy. Nothing to see here, move along.

But I am reminded of that classic Star Trek episode..

The one where the crew of the Enterprise was entertaining some Klingons as part of a larger diplomatic mission ... and some Klingons were in the bar starting trouble.. Scotty was dismissive urged restraint and towed the party line... up until the point where the Klingons called the Enterprise a "garbage scow" The Scotty started the fight to defend the honor of the ship.

Im glad the injuries were not serious.
I hope their reasons were honorable.
I also hope we can move past this very very quickly

Wasn't that the "Trouble With Tribbles" episode?

Its quite possible. Now that you mention it... you very well may be right. Its been so long since I've seen the originals that they all kind of blend a bit. As much as I hate to admit that.
