Maybe Jim Sumner or Bill Brill could comment further, but I always liked Dave. At least on the surface from what I've seen he seemed like a classy guy. I miss him from the league. Anyhow, good luck in retirement to a pretty descent coach IMO.

Dave started his career as coach at Durham High, prior to going to East Carolina. His wife, Lynn, worked at Home Savings & Loan in downtown Durham. Good luck to him in retirement.

I always thought Odom was one of those guys who would have been close to a perfect college coach, except he just didn't much like to recruit. Not the worse thing to have on your resume.

He was one of at least two former ACC coaches who left a head-coaching position to take an assistant-coaching position, under the assumption that it would lead to a better head-coaching position. He left the head spot at ECU to take the job as Terry Holland's top assistant but went to Wake before the UVA job opened up. Press Maravich left Clemson to be Case's assistant at State and did get the head job when Case stepped down.
