Ok, so he ain't perfect - that's why you think you know better than Coach K.

Just trying to find how he fits in all time. So I looked but can't find the top ten coaches and how Coach K fits in. Anybody have the record readily available. Who are the three active - K, Coach Knight and Coach Summit?

i never said anything about a list. I dont care about the list. the word "list" was nowhere to be found in my post, nor in any part of your post that I quoted.

I was answering your question of the who the top 3 actives (d-1 men) were.

Does anybody have the record for coaching wins and how Coach K fits in? Not necessarily active. SilkyJ says active coaches the record is Knight, Sutton and K. - although Seattleirish lists Don Meyer and Herb Magee as being are active.

I just want to know overall, active and not active coaches.

Yeah, that list has neither K nor Dreisell, which suggests that it's not the most accurate. It also does include non-D1 wins.

The Top 3 active D-1 men's coaches are Knight with 899, Sutton with 798, and then K. There are other coaches from other divisions that have more, and a few women's coaches that are in the mix (see Summitt), but the top 3 active men's coaches are Knight, Sutton and K.

From the NCAA's record book, which I found at their site, here is the current list as of the beginning of this year:

Since the beginning of the year, Duke has 12 more wins, moving K past Henson, Olson, and Driesell into 5th place. Lute is still on leave of absence, and so he hasn't added to his total, even though he's still considered active. Sutton just unretired on Dec 26th, but he hasn't won a game yet. He's currently 0-3 with the San Francisco Dons. And at the top, Knight's Raiders are 9-5, so he's up to 899. So the current list looks like this:

Note that goduke.com provides the top coach win totals (and Coach K's standing, including showing active and inactive) prior to each Duke game in the "full" Duke game notes (i.e. the pdf form, not the html).

Despite the number of cakewalks some coaches in Div-1 men's set up (think Calhoun), it is hard to match the number of cakewalks some coaches like Summit have had on average over the years. The disparity doesn't appear to be as bad as it used to be, but it was the norm to see 100-32 type scores for the first 2 months of women's ball when any of the top teams were involved. Those still exist, but I don't think in the same numbers.

Alright, I actually looked up Tennessee's schedule this year, and it's amazing how tough their schedule is now. They're blowing teams out, but they're playing mainly ranked teams. I guess if you want to improve those 100-32 wins don't do as much for you. Summitt really only has one goal, anyway, I'd assume: win it all.

There's a simple reason for that. When ranking active MEN'S basketball coaching records, most women's coaches have zero wins. Just like Coach K, Coach Knight, Coach Smith, etc, have zero wins in women's basketball. So similarly, those guys don't show up in the women's rankings.

Boeheim comes in the top three for winning percentage - but not the # of wins.
