No. 22 Duke Fends Off American, 3-2, To Advance In NCAA Tournament (http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=4200&ATCLID=1330574)

They had me worried when they were up 2-0 then had American pull even at 2-2. But they pulled it off and play again Saturday.

ACC Player of the Year Carrie DeMange and sophomore Rachael Moss each topped 20 kills and picked up double-doubles to lead No. 22 Duke to a 3-2 (30-20, 30-25, 28-30, 29-31, 15-7) win over American Friday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

With the win, Duke advances to the NCAA second round for the third straight year and will face No. 7 Cal in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 5 p.m.

They do a fine job and everyone who can really should get out to support them.

I thought Duke came out a little flat the first two games and then suffered the consequences of being flat the next two games. Carrie, especially, looked a little tired, given how badly she missed her serves.

That being said they played very well the fifth game, going up 8 - 2 on the switch.

It will be interesting to see how they match up with Cal. Cal's two starting outsides are pretty good (26 and 6) and I think a lot will depend on how well Cal passes. Good passes will alow Cal's two outsides to get swings. If Duke plays like they are capable then Duke has an excellent chance of winning. But, if Duke plays like they played against American they I predict a quick match, with Duke losing.
