"DURHAM, N.C.-- After registering her first career double-double on Sunday against UNC Greensboro with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Duke University freshman Krystal Thomas was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Thomas, who is a native of Orlando, Fla., averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 1.5 steals, while hitting 50.0 percent of her field goals in two Duke victories against South Florida and UNC Greensboro. On Sunday, the 6-4 center registered a career-high 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds to help lead the Blue Devils to an 84-39 victory. Thomas did all of this in only 20 minutes as she hit 9-of-16 field goals.
On Thursday against South Florida, Thomas registered 10 points, three rebounds, six blocks and one assist in only 14 minutes of play. Her six blocks against the Bulls was the second-most in a single game by a Duke freshman. On the season, Thomas leads Duke with 11 blocks and is one of four Blue Devils who are averaging double figure points (10.7)."
In the latest ACC stats, Thomas ranks second in blocks (3.7), tied for 19th in rebounding (7.0), tied for 11th in field goal percentage (55.6) and 27th in scoring (10.7).
