Georgetown plays Michigan tonight and Camille Powell of the Post has an article on the Michigan coach, John Beilein. The recent Richmond and West Virginia teams coached by Beilein exhibited many of the same characteristics. Rather than rely on the athleticism and skills of the individual players, both teams were noted for taking care of the ball and being good passing/shooting teams. According to the article, Beilein emphasizes fundamentals (dribbling, passing and shooting) in his practices so it is no wonder that his teams appear to play differently than many. I like Beilein because he came up the hard way and he has succeeded because he can coach not because he was a great recruiter as an assistant. I suspect that it will take him a couple of years to bring in his players and to incorporate his philosophy but Michigan should be an interesting opponent for the Devils next month.
