Folks, this is not your usual NBA draft analysis. We got a guy I know who is a big time basketball trainer to look at each of the Duke guys and give us his unvarnished opinion. He is candid and insightful and I learned a lot from listening to him.

Interesting guy to listen to. But Jason, you pointed out weeks ago that Vernon was not an inside player until he learned how to play the post inside last year. He’s always been a stretch 4 with outside abilities. He just didn’t show that last year because that’s not what the team needed. Isn’t that today’s pro game?

I believe NBA scouts who have watched him shoot from the outside don't feel like he has a good enough shot -- at least not yet -- to be a significant threat from the perimeter in the NBA. And he certainly does not appear to have the foot speed to be a NBA "stretch 4." Guys like Jayson Tatum, Pascal Siakam, John Collins, PJ Tucker, Giannis, and Anthony Davis play PF in the modern NBA. Vernon would get absolutely torched trying to stay in front of guys like that.
