Kenpom (https://kenpom.com/programs.php) has released new rankings of the top CBB programs since 1997. You’ll never guess who came out on top.

To be fair, it’s true.

Love comparing our worst season (#19) with #4’s worst season.

Love comparing our worst season (#19) with #4’s worst season.

Some other crazy numbers...

Only 10 teams haven't had a season where they ended outside the top 100.
Only 6 teams haven't had a season where they ended outside the top 90.
Only 4 teams haven't had a season where they ended outside the top 75.

Duke hasn't had a season where they ended outside the top 20.

I'd like it if the study went back to 1990. 30 years, that would've been a good time frame. ;-)

After Duke (19-2012) and Kansas (25-2000) the next best "worst" season is Michigan St who was 50th in 1997 and then Syracuse who was 56th in 2002. I gotta say, it is impressive that Syracuse has been a top 60 team every single year. They are not a name that comes to mind as a consistently great program but that is some powerful evidence.

#4 had a season since 1997 that was worse than last year? Impressive, in a way.

You'll never believe who is top 40! I certainly didn't. Granted...if they included the Les Robinson era it would likely be different. That just shows the power of mediocrity. Only three top 25 finishes and NC State is ranked #39.

I most say, i don't mind comparing our worst season to #4's worst season either ;)

Impressed by the Huskies era-leading 4 chips. Calhoun was a beast.

I realize you didn't exactly say that Calhoun won all four of those, and he certainly recruited a whole lot of the 2014 championship team, but Kevin Ollie was in his second year already by the time of that fluky title.

Impressed (and a little surprised) that my Wahoos are top 15 despite hovering between garbage and average for over half of the sample. Please, Tony Bennett - stay at least 20 more years.

Given that the vast bulk of minutes were played by Jrs and Srs recruited under Calhoun, the foundation of coaching (their freshmen and some of their sophmore years) happening under slick Jimmy, and the fact that Ollie has been pretty much trash ever since, I'm going to allocate "coaching credit" for that title at about 80% Calhoun, 20% Ollie.

although to be fair, Napier deserves the bulk of the credit overall. That guy carried them in 2014 even more than Kemba Walker did in 2011.
