Heard on the podcast that the Carolina game was his first time back at Duke. Anybody know why? I've always thought he was the most underrated player we ever had.

That is weird.....I've no idea. He has appeared on some of these ESPN Videos....30 for 30 and so on....about Duke, Laettner, the Kentucky game...

He was at the 2015 national championship as well as the after party... Odd that he has not been back to Cameron.

Always remember Thomas for grabbing his head and mouthing what looks like "Oh, my God" after Laettner's shot beat ky.

Did you know (or remember):

Thomas Hill was second in points scored on the 1990-91 team, and also second in points scored on the 1991-92 team.

That's some tricky trivia. In 1990-1991, Billy McCaffrey averaged more points (11.6 to 11.5), but played in one fewer game. Thomas Hill outscored him 450-442.

It's a weird cluster of scoring that year:

Player
PTS
PPG

Christian Laettner
771
19.8

Billy McCaffrey
442
11.6

Thomas Hill
450
11.5

Bobby Hurley
441
11.3

Grant Hill
402
11.2

Also 5 players with double digit scoring averages in 1991-1992, with Brian Davis replacing McCaffrey.

Thomas Hill seems happy with Duke, and with his current career as a coach at a NYC private school:

That was historic......the first "surrender cobra" so to speak.....although he did it in stunning victory, not stunning defeat.......that is an iconic moment even among the many iconic moments from that game.

Yeah; balanced scoring seems to have been a trademark of some of Duke's most successful teams.

For the 1977-78 magical season, look at the FG numbers for the year:

Jim Spanarkel 244 of 460
Mike Gminski 246 of 450
Gene Banks 238 of 451

One of my all-time favorite Duke players. Good to see him in a good spot, so thank you for the link.

If the G League to NBA pipeline had been viable back in the day,Thomas, Amaker, McCaffrey, and maybe some others would have played some in the league.
