I know Wayne's World did a great skit back on SNL about the top 5 incorrect song lyrics (#2 was "There's a Bathroom on the Right" by CCR, and to this day, that's how I sing it)....but driving today, I heard a Bruce Springsteen song that I always had wrong until the radio guy said what the actual title was.
I always thought it said
"Is that you, baby, or just a bridge in disguise?" Never made much sense. Guess I know why now.
Any others out there that were singing the wrong lyrics for years at a time?

Good idea for a thread.
How about "let me be you pizza burnin" instead of "let me be your beast of burden" (the Stones)

Actually, it's "I'll never be your beast of burden." A girl I knew at Duke went with "I'll never be your big Suburban."

I had huge gaffes for numerous parts of "Open Skies" by the David Crowder Band - but I doubt many of you have heard that song...
Oh, I also screwed up "Lightning Crashes" pretty bad for about a decade.

From Springsteen (and Manfred Mann).
Sounds like:
Blinded by the light
Wrapped up like a douche
Another runner in the night
But the real lyrics are:
Blinded by the light,
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Never has your signature been so appropriate.

Saw Fogerty at Walnut Creek July '06 and that's how he sang it the last verse. Really funny!

These are the first lines that popped into my head, and you've solved a mystery my brother-in-law and I were pondering a couple of years ago.
Actually, I found the written lyrics on a Springsteen CD and the line was "cut loose like a deuce." This would make a lot of sense from the standpoint of customary Springsteen themes -- discarded by society for low assigned value and thus joining the Boss's cavalcade of alienated night folk. But clearly "cut loose" isn't being sung in either version I've heard, and I too always thought it was "wrapped up." So, back to the drawing board on meaning. I suppose it's short for "revved up like a deuce coupe."

"Barbara Ann" (Beach Boys)
Ba ba ba ba ba, Bopper Ann.
or "Bobber Ann"
Real Lyrics: "Barbara Ann"
"Armeggedon It" (Def Leppard)
Misheard Lyrics:
I'm a gettin it!
Original Lyrics:
Armeggedon it!
"Always" (Bon Jovi)
Lyrics:
I'll be there where the sun don't shine
Really it says:
I'll be there 'till stars don't shine
"Blaze Of Glory" (Bon Jovi)
Misheard (And I do it ALL the time!):
I've got an old colt for a pillow.
Really it is:
I´ve got an old coat for a pillow.
Nirvana, "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
Wrong lyric: I'm blotto and bravado/I'm a scarecrow and a Beatle
Right lyric: A mulatto, an albino/A mosquito, my libido
Steve Miller Band, "Jungle Love"
Wrong lyric: Chug-a-lug, strawberry man
Right lyric: Jungle love is drivin' me mad
Bush, "Glycerine"
Wrong lyric: Batman watergun
Right lyric: Bad moon wine again
And my personal all time favorite:
Sherry don't like it/Rock the catbox -- from The Clash's "Rock the Casbah"
It is really "Sharif don't like it/Rock the casbah"

For a long, long, time, I thought David Bowie was singing "Silver Jet City" instead of "Suffragette City."
You know, I thought he was just singing a song about the big city, with its bright, shiny silver jets and all.
Idiot.

Springsteen joked about that song on his VH-1 Storytellers show. It was the first song he penned that went to #1. He of course atributed it to the douche line...yes, he meant deuce like "little deuce coupe".

Wrong lyric: I'm blotto and bravado/I'm a scarecrow and a Beatle

The wrong lyric makes more sense

The line I always heard incorrectly was "we're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks", but what I heard was "we're living in a polygag..."
Even though I know the correct lyrics, I still hear it incorrectly.

Not that mishearing early REM lyrics is anything new, but when I bought the album I really wondered why the "Your Brown Eyes" song was called "Pilgrimage".
I had a friend at Duke that thought Tears for Fears was singing everybody wants to fool around. That's probably more true than the actual lyric.
How about "Pompatus of Love", it's a cover of misheard lyrics. I once heard what the actual original lyrics were but I've forgotten them, anybody else know?
I always use the bathroom on the right, I'm not talking about the linen or movin' in, and excuse me, while I kiss this guy. Louie, Louie, ooooohhhhh, me gotta go now.

I do like some of Nickelback's songs, though others are just ridiculous.

I never understood why Evita Peron was so beloved when she kept singing,
"Don't cry for me, Argentina. The truth is, I never loved you."

I certainly didn't love Madonna as Evita, but I like the stage more than the big screen in this case.

This song isn't in English, but the (English) subtitles are hilarious attempts to put English words to the song:

I busted up watching it, and some of the phrases towards the middle are ridiculous.

Also, for the longest time I though "Lyrical Gansta" was "Leprechaun Gangsta"
