Four year player?

Impossible to say without seeing his game a bit at the college level. But, his physical attributes (kinda small for a PF) and his class ranking (40ish) don't immediately point to a guy who will have a lot of NBA stock. Seems likely to be here at least a couple/few years, if not all four.

That sounds promising. I'd like to see more team stability.

He is crucial as he is our center depth.

6'8 240 when he arrives on campus, maybe even taller and bigger.

Expecting him to be a crowd favorite in the mold of Nate James, Chris Carawell, Matt Jones. All tough guys who gave 100% to the program and provided great leadership while they were here.

Welcome to Duke Henry!

Your player comparisons are good with me. If he matches those guys, he is a great recruit.

Go easy on your dad, Henry. As a former VaTech football player, he probably didn't like what he saw tonight. ;)

Not too many stats available for Henry since he played on the Adidas circuit and also Maxpreps doesn't have his stats.

Still, check out this performance for one weekend of Adidas. (https://basketball.exposureevents.com/widgets/v1/player?eventid=126449&playerid=946379) I like that he had 11 steals in 5 games and shot a tidy 26-30 on free throws.

Welcome to Duke, Henry!

26-30 on free throws is a great sign he will eventually be able to knock down outside shots playing the 4.

Is the reason that Coleman is ranked so low is because he has a PF's game in a SF's body? If he grows taller or develops an outside game, he might shoot up the rankings to become a low 5*.

I think this is probably fair, although a very physical SF. This relates to my comment above on 26-30 free throws pointing to a guy who can develop a reliable 3 point shot.

This is just a guess, but a guy with that size and physicality often plays center on his high school team and just bullies inside for baskets. At Duke and during the summers, he will be able to develop his ball handling, face up game and 3 point shot - all skills he will need at Duke and beyond.

Another potential plus for the Bonzi comparison is that he played for (at least) seven years...

Coleman is listed on some sites as 6-6, others at 6-7 and he said in his Duke announcement 6-9... how tall is he?

Also he is 210-238...

Anyone have any idea

6'9 238 is center sized. I'm expecting him to be 6'8 in shoes currently and 6'9 on the Duke roster.

After Brakesfield and Coleman committed, I am no longer worried about our post depth. Remember that Nova won a title where their centers were 6'9 Spellman and 6'7 Paschall.

Confirmed?

I believe in the higher figures as recruiting sites can sometimes be years out of date.

My dream is a 6'10 240+ Henry Coleman that rises up the rankings due to a late growth spurt.

JasonEvans

A local newspaper, the Roanoke Times, referred to him as 6-8, 240 in an article about his Duke commitment (https://www.roanoke.com/sports/college/va_tech/highly-touted-richmond-hoops-prospect-henry-coleman-picks-duke/article_14573b94-1b88-5540-ab8a-9730c1113f0d.html). Looking at pictures of him, he is clearly very muscular and we all know that muscles weigh more than fat. Still, I dunno if he looks like he is 240.

If we’re going to ask Henry to play center some as a freshman, I really hope he’s on campus next summer playing pickup with Javin and Vernon every day... plus a 2 inch growth spurt. I’m still counting on commits from Williams and Dickinson.

Almost as long as Trajan Langdon and Amile Jefferson.

Matt Christensen came to Duke in 1995-96, classmate with Taymon Domzalski. Vince Carter was a freshman down the road.

Christensen played sparingly that year.

He undertook a Mormon Mission in Germany in 1997 and 1998.

Came back to Duke and redshirted in 1999.

Played in 2000, 2001 and 2002, ending his career as a 25-year-old, seventh-year senior. His teammates called him Uncle Matt.

Put it another way, his career overlapped with Chris Collins and Daniel Ewing.

Jim,

Was Uncle Matt the oldest ever Duke basketball player? Did any other Duke player’s career span over such a long period?

John Seward's career spanned 1942 through 1947 with a stay in a German POW camp in between.

He might not have been as old as Uncle Matt but I suspect Uncle Matt's time in Germany was more pleasant.

WWII did interrupt a lot of careers. However, I do not have a data base from the 1940s to determine age.
