MTSU looked like a legitimate, solid football team against my Wolverines two weeks ago (although, how much of that was due to Michigan's early season woes, especially after the Army debacle, is up for debate). Their QB was hard to take down and made plenty of tough plays, so I expect them to score on us. But Michigan eventually tore up the MTSU defense through the air, so we'll have to see the Quentin Harris of this past week, as opposed to Week 1, for this to be the victory we need it to be.

I think they'll be lessened quite a bit...UVA is simply better than us now (that could change), and unc is going to be much better than a Fedora coached team...I think we pretty much need to win three of the next four...

I found Stadium by searching at the main menu level for Stadium and it then gave me a link to find it inside the Roku Channel. I couldn't find it under the channel search by itself. When I did navigate to it inside Roku channel, I saw one live channel which was showing a slideshow of future programs, but not specific games. Presumably, when you go on Saturday, you will see specific games as the watchstadium schedule shows multiple games at once, but who knows.

The other thing I found on Roku is a CUSA.TV channel. That shows future games of CUSA schools, but only goes through Friday right now. Possibly tomorrow it will have the Saturday games listed. I will check in the morning.

Didn't get the last game on our TV here, but from the 'Bama game (at least my perspective in the stands) -- our secondary did fairly well against the pass early when we got to Tua. Even later when he started hitting, it mainly was due to good protection that let longer drag routes across the middle and underneath the deep coverage develop. I have confidence in our secondary in this game, but if you give a good quarterback enough time you will be in trouble against any decent receiving corps.

Im a little bit upset about the TV coverage of Duke games this season. I thought that having a dedicated ACC Network would make it easier to watch Duke Football not more difficult.

Last week's NC A&T game was the first game in a number of years that I did not get to watch.

Third game of the season and I frankly don't know what to think about this Duke team. WRs seem to have stepped up this year and at least answered one of the big summer question marks. He slipped alright, he slipped because Calhoun juked him out of his jockstrap! Calhoun fakes a cut to the left then flies by the defender headed deep. Last week's NC A&T game was the first game in a number of years that I did not get to watch.

Third game of the season and I frankly don't know what to think about this Duke team. WRs seem to have stepped up this year and at least answered one of the big summer question marks. Yeah, tough to tell what we've got...we were outmanned vs Bama, we largely outmanned A&T, we should (emphasis) be better than MTSU...then we get into that string of crucial games (not that MTSU isn't) where they could go either way...
VT, GT, Pitt, all eminently winnable and loseable....gotta (IMO) win at least three of the next four as things get tougher after that...

The Tennessean has an article on Cutcliffe today. Evidently he was very close after the 1998 season to signing on as head coach of MTSU. He said it was a job that he "would have without question taken", but then Tuberville snuck out the door at Ole Miss who then offered the job to Cutcliffe without interviewing. I thought at the time that Tuberville pulled a low one, leaving one conference team for another, but given this information, Cutcliffe might never have sniffed the Duke job if Tuberville hadn't pulled what he did; Cut could well have landed at UT after Fulmer's dismissal and then who knows what would have happened?

On the actual channel and app it doesn't seem to show future events.


I found Stadium by searching at the main menu level for Stadium and it then gave me a link to find it inside the Roku Channel. I couldn't find it under the channel search by itself. When I did navigate to it inside Roku channel, I saw one live channel which was showing a slideshow of future programs, but not specific games. Presumably, when you go on Saturday, you will see specific games as the watchstadium schedule shows multiple games at once, but who knows.

The other thing I found on Roku is a CUSA.TV channel. That shows future games of CUSA schools, but only goes through Friday right now. Possibly tomorrow it will have the Saturday games listed. I will check in the morning.

On the Roku TV front, the game shows up on the CUSA.TV channel, but for audio only. The Stadium channel inside the Roku channel looks like it doesn't show games whenever I try to go to it.

What I was able to get going was to use the iWebTv app on my phone and link that to my Roku TV. This let me play videos from the watchstadium website.

Five things I desire to see today:

1. A Duke victory - when everything is said and done the most important outcome is getting win number two in the books.

2. No injuries - this team needs to head into the bye week without anymore significant injuries and heal the existing bumps and bruises before the critical ACC schedule commences. Our Blue Devils need to win two of the first three conference games: Virginia Tech, Pitt and Georgia Tech.

3. Defense dominates - with the amount of experienced players on the defensive side of the ball this team needs to develop a "defense first" identity. I firmly believe it will be the defense that leads Duke to victories this season by limiting the opponent's scoring. Low scoring games favor our Blue Devils. MTSU has a high powered offense reputation so it is imperative our defense sets the tone early and shuts the Blue Raiders down.

4. Special teams are special - Coach Cutcliffe has repeatedly stated the team must perform in all three phases of the game. Our kick coverage has looked very good early while the return guys have shown potential. Michael Carter is averaging 22.3 yards per kick return and Josh Blackwell returned a punt 26 yards last week against NC A&T. It is time for the special teams to make game changing plays either with explosive returns or the coverage team creating turnovers.

5. Offense is balanced - for the team to be successful, we must run and pass the ball. One can get into a chicken or egg debate on whether you run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run but the bottom line is championship teams can do both. Success was achieved against NC A&T by passing for 364 yards and rushing for 210. Now Duke needs to show they can perform like that against a FBS opponent.

Duke schedules 2 games with MTSU, which is 30 minutes down the interstate from Vandy. Vandy responds by scheduling 2 games with NCSU. Duke then schedules 2 more games with MTSU.

I'm waiting for Vandy to return the baseball series from 2018 as well.

Great half. Really impressed with Harris today. As crazy as it sounds, my favorite play was when he threw it away out of bounds. Went through his whole progression and kept his head up and looking downfield while he escaped the pocket. Way too many times last week, he scrambled way too quickly and tucked it to run without even having a hole to run to identified. Great to see improvement in the pocket.

Not as impressed with the interior of he o-line on short yardage. Stuffed a couple of times again on 3rd and short. Struggled with that last week too. Gonna be tough to get push on ACC d-lines when you struggle against A&T and MTSU. They have done a great job on pass protection and on runs when it’s not an obvious run situation. Kinda hard to complain too much when you’re up 28 on a road game where you’re only a 6.5 point favorite, but it’s something to keep an eye on.

Steve Wiseman tweeted that he was on the field for a play but time out was called. He never stepped back on the field. I didn’t notice or hear it.

Just got back from the game. The first MTSU drive worried me a lot … lots of dink passes that we could not stop. They were headed for a TD until that offensive pass interference call and even then almost got it back. After Duke responded with its first TD, it seemed headed for an inevitable up-and-down type high-scoring game. Then came the plays of the game, in my opinion: the successful onside kick and the ensuing 4th down long pass play to Young. Those plays took the air out of the stadium and the MTSU offense seemed to go into a funk in the 2nd quarter, helped by a torrid Duke pass rush. The MTSU offense recovered in the 2nd half, but it was way too late … they just could not stop the Duke O.

Harris looked in complete control of the offense; I was impressed by my first live look of him. And the receivers, I can just add my agreement to all the comments here. I thought our running game looked better than some here have mentioned; yes, some plays were stopped but on others the runners kept going until the 3rd or 4th hit. I was not as impressed with the defense; as I mentioned, it could well have turned into a shootout. But I will say that the MTSU quarterback, O'Hara, is a player; he is quick and elusive and can also throw a decent pass. I think the Vols would love to have him right now.

I only remember three plays that resulted in a Duke injury stoppage: once for Cerenord, twice for Quansah. Each time, the player ran off the field and came back later. There might have been a kick return where somebody got injured, I am foggy on that one.

The MTSU band rocked. However, the bimbo that tried to get the crowd excited during the timeouts was excruciating; she was mic'd so loud I think her voice could have been capable of cutting through metal.

Coach Cutcliffe has especially nice comments on QB Quentin Harris and WR Aaron Young who both had monster games. Duke has a lot of young talent on this team but the two redshirt seniors provided leadership and led the effort in Murfreesboro.

Can we give some love to Coach Trooper Taylor? Our WRs have gone from a question mark to one of the strongest position groups on the team. He has remade Aaron Young, or rather at least lit the fire in the young man. And frankly this is the most aggressive group of WRs I can remember at Duke in a long, long time. Weird as it is to say, we haven't missed a step with Bobo injured.

Also major shout-out to the oft criticized Kurt Roper. This is not Daniel Jones's offense. Roper and Cut built Quentin Harris his own offense to take advantage of what he does well. The decision to go to the option in the second half to take the air out of the game after MTSU scored was brilliant, and wonderfully executed by the team.

Yes, there are still some things to correct and work on, but wow, that was a heck of a football game by Duke, on the road against an obvious banana skin opponent.

I noticed Bracey on that play, and noticed in the endzone he was flexing in a very intense celebration.....I was thrilled with both receivers on that play.
