I used to have an autographed picture of Starr when I was a kid.

Bart Starr and Johnny Unitas (and later, Captain America, aka Roger Staubach) were my father’s quarterbacks. These are the men about whom he would tell great tales of their gridiron exploits. From what I gathered over the years Starr was all about winning and unconcerned with personal statistics. Additionally, he called his own plays, something many quarterbacks were not trusted to do. My friends and I growing up in Massachusetts and later, Texas, also thought he had the coolest name ever.

My condolences to his family, friends, and the Green Bay Packers organization and fans. We’ll always remember Bart Starr.

Bart Starr has passed?

If it's second and one, he probably passed for a long TD. To Max McGee.

One of my imprint QBs. May he rest in peace.

What’s the line? “Old quarterbacks never die. They just fade back and pass away”?

I came to football just after the Starr era. But as a pre-teen I did read Jerry Kramer’s book “Instant Replay,” which served as my introduction to Starr’s Packers.

Father Time remains undefeated....

I grew up in Wisconsin in the 70’s and 80’s (post-Bart and pre-Brett). Bart Starr was as revered as Lombardi. My dad’s prized possession is a signed Bart Starr football we got when we showed up at Lambeau Field during the summer, and a bunch of Packers were working out. The state of Wisconsin mourns their legend! R.I.P. Bart

I was born in Madison and have been a Packers fan since I was old enough to know what football was. Instant Replay was one of my favorite books growing up and, of course, all of Lombardi's Packers have been burned into my memory for all time. From what was written, he was a truly great, quiet leader and played with an unassuming, yet burning intensity -- and never tooted his own horn (didn't need to as his performance spoke volumes). Sports could use more leaders like him in my opinion.

RIP Mr. Starr. You were one of my first football heroes.

My favorite QB. Many remember the Ice Bowl QB sneak, but to me it was in the closing moments how he got them down to the one.
