View Full Version : 2019 Degenerate Gambler NCAA Tourney contest!!

Ooops, probably should have started this a day ago.

Go here to sign up: https://contests.covers.com/OfficePools/5b11823d-ad46-44bd-9141-aa1500f8f885
You will need the password which is: GoDuke

Rules are simple... make wagers (100-500 units) on the spread and the O/U on ANY NCAA TOURNAMENT GAME. Do not bet on any NIT or other games or I will tell covers to kick you out. I'm serious... make one wager on the NIT and I will remove you from the contest.

Any questions?

-Jason "we can bet tonight's play-in games... so get moving!" Evans

happy to note we have opened as 35 point favorites vs Whomever (TBA, actually). Not sure I've seen that before.

Please make sure you only bet the FDU/Prairie View and Temple/Belmont games today. There are a lot of NIT games listed and if you bet them you will get in trouble with "the man."

Thanks for running all these contests, Jason. They're a whole lot of fun plus they build camaraderie among posters. It gives us something else to do besides argue over minutes, stats and cinder blocks.

To keep it fun and interesting and since there are sooooo many games, can we keep going without a limit on how deep in the hole we might be?

OMG! Temple almost fouled the end of the game with Temple to the over from what was a not so high scoring game! Down 11 with 88 seconds left, it turned into a foul-fest and 16 points were scored in the last 88 seconds. They fell 4 points shy of what should have been a safe o/u and still lost by 11. That would have royally pissed me off!

16 POINTS IN 88 SECONDS!

People better get in here. You don't want us to get so far out ahead that you can't catch up later.

I guess we find out whom the true degenerates are this week. There's normal society -- "Hold on, I have to fill out my bwackets first!" -- and there are those of us who need to lay the (fake) lumber on Prairie View vs Fairleigh Dickinson.

Ugh. I decided to jump back in after a year off, but can't remember my username. I reset my password but if anyone can look at an old leader board and see what permutation of my DBR name I used, I would be appreciative.

After octuple-checking to make sure my selections were for the correct and legal games this evening, I'm in.

I'm just hoping that North Colgate Central University isn't playing the Next Dimension Scarlet Unicorns in the Chesapeake Bay Invitational tonight, because I'm really looking forward to this year's Final Four and I won't be able to enjoy it if Jason puts a hit out on me after a third DG strike!

The Play In games are in the books and I finished 4-0 (+2,000). Not shabby...

I've already placed several bets on today's action including one I wish I had not made as I jumped on Syracuse to beat Baylor before learning Frank Howard was suspended. Oh well, perhaps the Orange will be motivated to play hard and secure the win without Howard. One can hope.

So I'll take a push (win the o/u, lose ATS and -50) on the Louisville game.

If yale can keep this close (down 9 now) and it goes to FTs, there is still hope for my Yale +7 and Over 158

I'm a newcomer to the world of the degenerates, and there is no room for mediocrity. I am solidly in dead last, and I may be out the back door by the end of the day. I just bet 500 FMU on Virginia (-22) to cover. After what happened last tournament, my thought process is Virginia will be motivated to jump all over Gardner Webb from the start and never let up.

Additionally, I bet the O/U in the four games involving ACC Teams:

1. Under (130) Virginia vs Gardner Webb
2. Over (149) Duke vs NDSU
3. Under (166) North Carolina vs Iona
4. Over (126) Virginia Tech vs Saint Louis U.

I really sucked yesterday so today has to be better. Right?

Good Lord....I am 17-9 (over 65%) on O/U and yet in 18th place...if that tells you how my Spread bets are going. Comically awful. To make it worse, I've bet more confidently ATS than O/U, so I'm losing my 500s and winning 200s 300s and so on.

http://www.espn.com/chalk/story/_/id/26356002/betting-favorites-made-history-round-32

For the first time since the NCAA tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, all 16 betting favorites won in the Round of 32, according to ESPN Stats and Information.

Three times, in 2009, 1995 and 1991, the favored team had won 15 of 16 games in the Round of 32, but this was the first year in which the chalk went undefeated.

And let's all here it for this degenerate!!

Duke, the No. 1 overall seed and consensus tournament favorite, had the closest call. The Blue Devils survived two potential go-ahead baskets by double-digit underdog Central Florida in the final seconds on Sunday. It was a fortunate ending for Duke backers, including one bettor who placed a $50,000 money-line wager on the Blue Devils to win straight-up at -1,100 odds. According to bookmaker William Hill U.S., when Duke prevailed, the bettor won a net $4,545.45.

More than half of the top 10 aren't even playing games tonite, that's lame. I just don't get it. Defeats the purpose/point of wagering on the tourney.
I know I'm sucking, but at least I'm trying. Two very ugly games on now, glad I guessed under.

Sorry, I looked early and did not see anything I liked. I am having a real trouble at this point picking with my head and not my heart. For example, my head tells me UNC to cover the 5.5 tonight but my heart just cannot bet on the Heels. I ignore the head when it comes to Duke and I am taking the Devils to cover the 7 against Va Tech. The only other bet I like so far is under 147 in the MSU-LSU game.

Didn't pick yesterday, and I'm probably out of range of anything but last place, but I can't make up ground (or achieve a backdoor record) if I don't make picks, so my hat is back in the ring. I picked VT to cover, but if they don't, I'll be plenty happy with that.

Actually, even if I'm perfect from here on out (and I highly doubt that), I don't think anyone can take the loser spot away from me. You don't have enough games left to lose this thing.

My pitiful performance now sits at 17-20 (-2500). Perhaps I can get on a hot (lucky) streak and claw my way back into the black. One needs to have a goal.

Today's bets:

1. Gonzaga (-4.5) over Texas Tech
2. Over (139.5)
3. Purdue (+4.5) over Virginia
4. Under (127)

For the record, I will be rooting hard for Virginia to win the game but not cover.

Well, gosh, I didn't prepare anything so I just don't know what to say. (Seriously, thanks.) I think the lesson here is that if you gamble long enough for the law of averages to make you a winner, you've gambled far too long. I'm truly impressed by NYBri and a couple of others who seem to have a much better system than mine, which involves random guessing.

Exactly. But any true degenerate knows, "I just gotta get back to Even!" "I can feel that hot streak coming now." I'm now 3-3 on pie bets.

Of course any true degenerate also knows to give a little selective reporting when the Mrs. asks for your balance sheet. 3-3 on pie bets sure, but I'm 0-2 on beer bets. And that doesn't include Devildeac's beer consult fees which I still owe. I can't even figure it with the juice:

Hah, but not 100% true for everybody. In gambling that is pure chance....yeah.....but gambling with skill, ie, picking games, playing poker, there are people who are way ahead in their lifetime. The vast majority, however, are under water.
